The Originals – No More Heartbreaks

“The Originals” may be a spin-off of “The Vampire Diaries,” but the series has developed a separate identity from its sister show. The only similarities are that both shows feature complicate vampire families and that one of the lead vampire characters fell in love with a human woman (who later became a vampire) that believed in the goodness hidden deep within, causing him to strive to be better. For “The Vampire Diaries” it was Elena Gilbert for Damon and for “The Originals” it is Klaus for Cami O’Connell.

The episode picks up where the last episode left off after Lucien’s attack. Cami (Leah Pipes) wakes up after being bitten by Lucien (Andrew Lees). She manages to get away from him by throwing one of her dark objects at him. Cami arrives at Casa de Mikaelson and asks Klaus (Joseph Morgan) to promise he won’t get mad. Klaus sees the wolf bite on Cami’s arm. He is understandably angry that Lucien hurt her, but vows she’s not dying today.

Freya (Riley Voelkel) puts a salve on Cami’s arm to help ease the wolf bite pain. The Mikelsons brainstorm for a cure for Cami’s deadly wolf bite. Klaus theorizes that since Lucien always wanted to be like him it would make sense that Lucien’s blood would cure the bite like Klaus’ cures wolf bites. Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) says he’ll go to Cami’s apartment to retrieve some of Lucien’s blood from the melee. Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) also thinks that because Hope is half wolf her blood may work as well. She and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) take off to get the baby. Klaus blames Vincent for helping Lucien, but Vincent reminds him that he cares for Cami, but the Ancestors forced him to help Lucien. Witch Ancestors are worse than grudge holding vampires like Lucien. It wasn’t enough to shun Davina so they’re using Lucien to do their dirty work!

Vincent calls Davina (Danielle Campbell) and tells her about Lucien biting Cami. Davina tells Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) that she’s going to talk to Lucien about the Ancestors helping him and maybe find out what they did to Kol. Davina then uses magic to keep Kol from following her.

Cami admits to Klaus that she used to want revenge against Aurora for what she did to her. But she refuses to let Aurora take away from her the person she used to be, someone who helped others. Cami asks Klaus to help her write her will.

Lucien is partying like it’s 1999 when Davina uses a sleeping spell to render everyone in the bar unconscious. She uses magic to restrain him and pulls out what looks like a voodoo doll. “You brought a rag doll to a bar fight?” Lucien smirks.

Cami wants to leave everything in her closet, except for the revealing outfits, to Davina. It is sweet how Cami views Davina as a little sister. To Josh will go her records. Hey Cami, he’ll probably turn them into digital downloads, but it’s the thought that counts. Vincent will receive all her books and her Uncle Kieran’s files. That will be helpful for the witch. Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) can be the trustee for Baby Hope’s inheritance of all her dark objects until she comes of age. And Elijah gets her game of Trivia Pursuit. Klaus quietly writes everything down, but stops her when Cami wants to tell him what she is leaving him. Cami, you already gave a centuries old killer vampire/werewolf hybrid your love, I don’t think any possession of yours would top that. Plus, Klaus loves you and would rather you live.

Meanwhile, Hayley and Elijah are in the bayou to get Hope. Hayley comments how complicated their lives are.

It turns out Davina’s doll is some sort of truth telling talisman. Lucien gets out of Davina’s trap and boasts that the Ancestors are on his side so her little toys won’t work. The Ancestors are helping him to kill the Mikaelson family. Regardless of what she tries, Cami is going to die. Lucien can’t wait to see Klaus in his grief as that is when he will kill him. But Davina need not worry since he doesn’t plan to kill her. The Ancestors have something else planned for her. He then reveals the truth about ramifications of Davina’s spell to bring Kol back.

Klaus gives Cami one perfect day if only in their minds. It is a stroll down memory lane that includes the place they met.

Davina confronts Kol about him keeping the truth from her, which is that the downside of her spell to bring him back was for him to kill her. A heartbroken Davina daggers Kol.

When neither Lucien nor Hope’s blood work, Vincent wants to put Cami’s soul in the pendant. Freya reminds him though it only works for the Mikelsons. Elijah argues against transferring her soul in another body because it takes away the dignity of giving Cami a choice.

In the perfect day of their minds, Cami is getting weak. Klaus vows he’ll never forget her. “You inspired goodness in me. And unlike all of the souls I’ve encountered and forgotten in the march of time, I will carry you with me.” Cami dies in their minds and desiccates as a vampire in the real world.

Elijah offers his brother a comforting hand on his shoulder. Freya and Vincent vow to use Lucien’s blood to figure out a way to end him.

Davina talks to a daggered Kol. Suddenly, the weather becomes stormy and when Davina looks back at where Kol was lying a minute ago, he’s gone. Davina turns around where Kol stands and he bites her! Snapping out of his violence, Kol calls out to a lifeless Davina.

Is Davina dead? What an exciting and heartbreaking episode! I can’t wait to see what happens next week.
