Zoie Palmer – Lost Girl

Q) Besides "Lost Girl,' are there any other projects that you have been working on that we will see in 2014?

A) I've done two films, Sex After Kids by Jeremy Lalonde which hits theatres Feb 7th and Patch Town by Craig Goodwill which just had its international premiere at the Palm Springs Film festival in California. I play two very different characters in these movies, but they were both really rewarding to make.

Q) Is there anything that you've brought to your role as Lauren that may not have necessarily been originally in the script?

A) I've tried to squeeze in a bit of humor in with her over the years. She can be very serious at times, I'm a bit goofier than Lauren. Also I'm not sure she was as nerdy in the beginning, but I would say that is something that both the writers and myself have brought more of to her over the years....

Q) Season four of "Lost Girl" seems to showcase a more confidant and open Lauren, where do you think that stems from? Is that a natural development or does it come from her relationship with Bo?

A) I think it's both of those things, but Lauren has also been through a lot in her life and has been an outcast for so much of it. The fact that she's still around at all is a testament to her strength and her ability to thrive in almost impossible situations. I think there is a bit of defiance in her this season and I have to say, I really enjoy playing it.

Q) Where do you see Lauren's progression with her relationship with Bo?

A) I really don't know... Just when I think I know what the writers will do, I'm surprised and I like that. Emily Andras has done a lovely job of taking us and the viewers on a complete journey. Sometimes people are happy with the development of Bo and Lauren and sometimes they're not, but they're always invested and that is what makes Emily so good.  It seems obvious to me that Bo and Lauren will always mean everything to each other, but how that unfolds is a journey I can't really predict and nor do I want to. I get a lot out of learning about it as I go.

Q) What can you tease about any big events that will occur during the season?

A) There are a lot of events this season and at least 6 of them are big. Ha! Okay.... I could give you more words to make it seem as though I'm giving you more info, but you'd still be left with this confused betrayed feeling like I said pretty much nothing. I will say this...it was easily one of the seasons I had the most fun filming! See? Lots of words, no info.

Q) Which scene throughout the show has been your proudest moment to film and which has been the most challenging?

A) It's hard to find one scene, there have been so many challenging and rewarding scenes over four years. Sometimes I'm just proud to have managed to spout out a page of sci-fi Fae medical jargon in one take. There have been moments where I've said a mouthful of that and then thought...."Oh my god, I said it, all the words, in all the right order....I'm amazing!!!" I think I'm proudest of the scenes when the whole cast is together, like the body switching episode. It was a really challenging episode for all of us and so profoundly rewarding too. I got to witness my incredibly talented cast mates be brilliant and also spend the entire episode with them. It so rare that we're all on set at the same time. I'm all to aware that one day this show will end as everything in life does and we won't see each other that often because life will get in the way as it does and so I cherish the moments when we are all together and they do too. So, that episode was challenging and I'm proud of it because I love the people on this show that make it happen...from the cast, to our brilliant writing team, to our relentlessly hardworking and talented crew, to the producers who have more heart than you can imagine.

Q) You inspire a lot of fans as an actress, and as your character, how do you feel being a role model? Is it surreal to see all the fan appreciation on social media and sites like Tumblr?

A) I'm grateful that I've found myself in the position I'm in. Nothing fills my heart more than a fan telling me how the show has inspired or helped them in some way. I just play a character, there is so much that has to happen for a show to work so when someone comes up to me and tells me their story and tells me that Lauren's story line has helped them come out to their parents or helped that feel less alone In the world. That tells me that whole show is doing something right, I'm such a small piece of the puzzle, frankly I'm humbled by it all.

Q) Besides acting, do you have any interest in pursuing writing or producing?

A) Yes yes yes!!! I have all kinds of ideas and am so fascinated with the world of making film and tv. There's so many parts of it that interest me. It's sort of unfortunate that fans really only get access to the acting part of it all because the sheer talent that's going on behind the scenes to make us look good is astounding. Writing and directing are both area I'd like to explore.

Q) What are some of your guilty pleasures? Are you into any particular music group, book, sport or activity.

A) I love a good clichéd bath. I kind of really enjoy driving when I'm by myself and there's no traffic. I hate the gym and don't go but I love a hike or any kind of adventure at all really. I love going to a new county or city and really exploring it. I have no interest on lying on a beach all day, I wanna check it
out, see the place, meet it's people. I love watching a great game of tennis or being at a live baseball game, it has to be a live baseball game though, I don't wanna watch it on TV. And I love animals, love love love them.

Q) What have you taken away from being a part of a show that has become such a cult fan favorite?

A) Truthfully, a feeling of gratitude. This show is a gift, the show, the character, the fans, it's a gift and I am and will forever be grateful to have happened into it all.
