Natasha Negovanlis – Part 2 – Carmilla

Q)  Some of the best moments in “Carmilla” are the facial expressions Carmilla makes and her snarkiness. Is that something you added to the character?

A) The character Carmilla was very well written, so she was easy for me to figure out. The creative team wanted someone who could play snarky and sarcastic, but didn’t come off as just plain “bitchy”. Thankfully, my version of her fit their vision. As far as facial expressions go, most of those are mine. Carmilla is fun to play because she says and does a lot of things that I might do if I wasn’t so painfully Canadian.

Q) You are a part of social media. What is it like for you receiving instant fan feedback when the episodes premiere?

A) It’s so wonderful to know that my work is having a positive effect on people. As someone who recently started doing volunteer work, it’s really cool and reaffirming when I get to use my art to help others. My acting career is just starting, and I’m still in the “take what you can get” phase of it, so I am just very grateful that Carmilla is in fact a really great show. Knowing that I am helping some of the fans through tough times is the best feeling in the world.

Q) We also talked a bit about your music. Will you be releasing anything soon?

A) My musical journey has been so vast. Right now, I have just been experimenting with my voice in new ways after years of trying to break out of my classical training. Classical music is a part of me, and will always be a part of me, but I am definitely growing into new things. I used to produce cabarets and still audition for musicals, but the fans have definitely pushed me to start writing my own music again and I really appreciate their encouragement. I hope to be able to offer them an EP in the new year, but it’s still in the very early stages of conception.

Q) After the culmination of all thirty-six episodes, is there anything you would like to leave with fans about where we leave off?

A) Season 2 is very much a mystery to me as well! All I know is that there will be some big changes, but I don’t think the fans will be disappointed with where the story goes.
