A woman (Shacai O’Neal) struggles against her restraints as she’s rolled into a hospital. She breaks frees and attacks everyone in her way as she runs outside. Cornered by the police, she picks up a dumpster and a cop (Thom Williams) tries to reason with her. Black Lightning (Cress Williams) stops the dumpster with his lightning as the woman throws it at the police. He offers the woman his help but shocks her unconscious as she accepts his offer.

Peter Gambi (James Remar) shows Jefferson that all footage of Tobias Whale (Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III) and Syonide entering the school has been erased. Jefferson suggests showing the police the footage from his suit goggles to motivate them to look for Tobias. Gambi reminds him that the police have been looking for Tobias for thirty years, and that they have to worry about the briefcase and its mysterious contents, suggesting that Khalil Payne (Jordan Calloway) is their best lead. Jefferson hopes that some of the old Khalil is still inside, and Gambi asks for another dart to help create an antidote.

Tobias hands Khalil a strip of newspaper and has him recite his routine as he lights the paper on fire. Khalil drops it, and Tobias lights another paper, commenting that he’s a slow learner upon Khalil dropping the second paper. Tobias hands him a third paper, and Khalil is able to get the schedule before the fire reaches his hand. Tobias remarks that he’s going to have a lot more responsibility with Syonide gone.

Anissa Pierce (Nafessa Williams) watches news footage announcing that a Freeland clinic is in danger of closing and being replaced with a new development. Jennifer Pierce (China Anne McClain) interrupts her rant to ask about her Instagram photo of her with Zoe, telling her that it just popped up. She asks Anissa if she knows what their parents plan to do about her situation, and Anissa tells her she doesn’t and she’s not about to eavesdrop on their conversations. Jennifer tells her she’s wasting time chasing shiny objects. Anissa reminds her that she’s the one who told her to get back out there, and Jennifer pokes Anissa’s arm with her powers. Jennifer explains that she’s been trying to control her powers and advises her to pursue a more meaningful relationship.

Lynn Pierce (Christine Adams) protests Agent Percy Odell’s (Bill Duke) suggestion to bring Dr. Helga Jace (Jennifer Riker) aboard the pod study. He reminds her that she requested more help, and this is his offer. Lynn accuses him of trying to sabotage her, and he assures her she would have failed already if he was. She tells him that the kids’ deaths will be on him, but he tells her that she stole this job and that it would be on her. Odell asks her to be the one to convince Jace to come onboard.

Jefferson walks through the school, watching as metal detectors are installed. He goes into his old office and meets his replacement, Principal Lowry (P.J. Byrne). Jefferson introduces himself and offers to show him around, but Lowry rejects the offer. Lowry comments on his speech to the students, and Jefferson assures him that he wanted to make the transition easier for his students. Jefferson asks if the metal detectors are necessary, and Lowry replies that he’d still have his job if they weren’t.

As Jennifer walks down the street, she runs into Perenna (Erika Alexander), who tells her she’s there to meet with her. A confused Jennifer shakes her hand and freaks out as they are transported into another dimension. Perenna insists she just wants to talk, but Jennifer’s powers manifest and she demands to be taken back. Later, Jennifer asks Jefferson and Lynn how they could do that to her without warning. She accuses them of not caring about what she wants or how she feels. Jefferson assures her they care, and Lynn explains that Perenna wanted them to meet without expectations on her part. Lynn admits that they have no other ideas on how to help her, and Jennifer is angry that they think of her as a monster. Jefferson apologizes, blaming himself for everything and embracing her.

Patrolman Roman Hicks (Derek Evans) greets Bill Henderson (Damon Gupton) and shows him a burned-out car that Henderson identifies as an unmarked police car. Hicks tells him they were able to identify the owner of the car as Sommers. As Odell watches, Jace is brought in from prison and Lynn explains that she wants her help with the pods. Jace asks if she knows what she did, and Lynn replies that she conducted an unauthorized experiment which led to eleven patients losing their feet. Jace asks what’s in it for her, and Lynn ask if she’d rather be doing science than in a cell. She replies that they didn’t take away her mind, and Lynn offers her the chance to see her son. Jace agrees but corrects Lynn that ten patients lost their feet while one of them died in her experiment.

Disguised in her black hoodie and mask, Anissa visits Reverend Jeremiah Holt (Clifton Powell), advising him to donate some of the money to the clinic. Holt tells her that it’s already been distributed to the lawyers and families of the pod kids. She asks how much he needs, and he tells her he needs three hundred thousand dollars. Before Anissa leaves, Holt asks to pray for her and she agrees. Khalil delivers a bag to Tobias, who asks him if there was any issue with the collection. Khalil reports that he had to track the man down, and Tobias asks him to remind the man of structure and prevent any further issues. Jefferson packs up his stuff from his former office and tears up as he takes one last look at it.

Anissa finds Grace Choi (Chantal Thuy) tending bar and Grace asks what she wants. Anissa tells her she wants to talk, but Grace clarifies she meant what she wants to drink. Anissa attempts to apologize for what happened but reminds her they weren’t in a relationship. She comments that she hopes she was seeing other people too, telling her that she’s too fine to be lonely. Grace replies that she’s seen plenty of people, but remarks that it’s not her business. Anissa tells Grace that she takes her work very seriously, but her sister reminded her that she can take other things seriously too and that she wants to try a relationship.

Henderson visits Jefferson, telling him this isn’t a social call. He tells him about the burned car, insisting that there’s only one of three people with the ability not currently in prison. Jefferson asks if he wants former the former principal to talk to him, but Henderson replies that Black Lightning will be more persuasive. Jefferson asks if he’s cool with him being a vigilante, and Henderson asks about his use of the word “former.” Jefferson explains that he abandoned the school while Black Lightning saved it. He tells Henderson that they’ll have to talk about this, but Henderson avoids the conversation.

Khalil asks around for the guy he’s looking for, and Romel (Reginald Robinson) laughs at the idea of taking him seriously.  Romel calls him Tobias’ bitch, and Khalil grabs him, picks him up, and tells him he’s nobody’s bitch. Khalil sees the person he’s looking for run up the stairs and tells him Tobias doesn’t like him having to track him down. Khalil shoots a dart at him and he falls off the landing before bleeding out.

Jennifer agrees to meet with Perenna again but asks to get it over with. Perenna takes Jennifer to a hair salon in the other realm, explaining that black women have come together in salons to talk, share, and be safe. She tells Jennifer that she brought her there to help her feel comfortable, but Jennifer admits that she’s not comfortable there. Perenna tells her that they’re going to create a box to put her feelings in and asks what she wants the box to be made of as the box manifests in her hand. Jennifer chooses gold, and they begin the session.

Lynn explains the pods to Jace, and Jace is knocked down as she attempts to cross a red line in the floor. Lynn explains that the implant in her ankle will disable her if she tries to escape or remove the implant. She warns her that she will stay out of prison as long as she says, and any wrong move will get her sent back immediately.  Anissa asks Gambi questions about the proposed real estate venture to take over the clinic. Gambi suggests that it’s money laundering, and Anissa asks if the money’s been transferred yet. He reports that it isn’t, and she won’t tell him what she plans to do since he’ll tell Jefferson. Gambi promises to not tell Jefferson what she’s going to do until after she’s done it, but also tells her he will tell her if she’s doing something stupid.

Black Lightning visits Steven Conners (Joshua Mikel), who immediately attacks him with a flame thrower. Black Lightning uses his powers to counter the flames and gets Conners to stop by picking up a gas container with his lightning and placing it in front of the flames. Once Conners is subdued, Black Lightning asks who hired him to burn the car. Black Lightning threatens to shock him if he doesn’t talk, and Conners admits that a man approached him, handed him money, and threatened to kill him if he didn’t do it.

Black Lightning asks what he looked like, and Conners tells him that all he saw was gladiator things on his arms. Jefferson reports to Henderson that Tobias was behind the attack, insisting that Khalil is just a sidekick doing Tobias’ bidding. Henderson tells him that they found a gang member dead with a dart in his neck, and Jefferson insists that Tobias doesn’t have people killed without a reason.

Black Lightning visits Nichelle Payne (Yolanda T. Ross), who tells him she doesn’t know where Khalil is. Black Lightning doubts that, commenting that Khalil loves her and probably gave her money. Nichelle tells him that it’s too late to help Khalil, but Black Lightning insists there’s hope. He asks if she has a number to reach him and asks her to call Khalil to arrange a meeting with him.

Khalil meets Black Lightning and warns him to stay away from Nichelle. Black Lightning insists he’s trying to help him, asking how to find Tobias so he can take him out. Khalil reminds him that he would be dead if it wasn’t for Thunder, and Black Lightning tries to remind Khalil of his former life.

However, Khalil warns him to stay away and promises to kill everyone he loves. Black Lightning grabs him with his lightning and demands to know where Tobias is. Khalil shoots a dart, but Black Lightning is able to stop it by enveloping it in a ball of lightning and Khalil runs away. As Tobias pays his respects at the family grave, the police approach him and Henderson arrests him.

After observing a money transfer with Gambi, Anissa jumps in with her hood and mask and fights the launderers. She is able to take most of them out with her powers, but Gambi shoot the last one before Anissa takes the money and runs. Anissa delivers the money to Holt, who is thankful. Gambi investigates a noise outside his apartment and finds an unconscious Kara Fowdy (Skye P. Marshall).

Jennifer tells Perenna she wants her box to made out of diamonds, but Perenna tells her they need to figure out the emotions she has before they can put anything in the box. Perenna takes her hands, revealing of a vision of a screaming Jennifer enveloped in her powers. Jefferson answers the door and Henderson informs him of Tobias’ arrest.
