There is possibly nothing more frightening that running from a raccoon while on a hike while on the phone with your husband, only to literally stumble upon a dead body that said raccoon then takes a bone from and runs away. Thus, we kick off the seventh episode of the Final Chapter of “Bones.” While Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) get their day started they discuss how Max (Ryan O’Neal) stepped outside to take a personal call and how it was bugging Brennan as to why her dad is looking healthier and happier. She then launches into her reasons on studies that show how difficult it is for older people to change their habits and ways after Booth said he could possibly be changing his ways. Max comes back inside and Brennan starts bombarding him with questions. Booth makes an exit to go get the kids shoes on while Brennan talks to her father. Max tells Brennan that he had some issues with his heart and she was so busy so he couldn’t find time to tell her so he went in and had them put a pacemaker in his chest. During their little spat Brennan’s phone chirps alerting her that there is a case. Max tells her to not to be angry with him.

On their way to the lab, Booth tells Brennan that he’s been thinking about her dad and how he thinks she should give him a break. Brennan tells Booth that she’s not going to let it go because he lied to her. Booth says that it wasn’t a lie and she tells him that it was a lie by omission. She asks Booth why he would hide a medical issue this big from his daughter and Booth tells her that he probably didn’t want to worry her. She tells Booth she wants to be worried because at Max’s age she only has so much time with him so she doesn’t want to be in the dark about anything. Booth tells Brennan that Max is lucky to have a daughter like her to which Brennan says that he will less lucky if he continues to withhold information on his health.

At the Jeffersonian Cam (Tamara Taylor), Hodgins (T.J. Thyne), Brennan and Angela (Michaela Conlin) are busy at work discovering that the victim was a woman of Asian descent while Arastoo (Pej Vahdat) tells them that she was about seventy years old. Hodgins tells them that from the larvae she has been dead about a week and also points out hair that he found that belonged to a canine. While looking over the body Brennan finds something lodged in the woman’s shoulder. As she pulls it out it Hodgins asks to see it and cleans it off a little bit. Cam notices it’s a limited-edition Humming Bird broche. Hodgins asks how she knows and Cam gets all embarrassed and says where they can find it. Once Arastoo spills that Cam watches the Home Shopping Mall and she tells Arastoo they will be talking about it later.

Aubrey (John Boyd) finds Booth in his office and tells him that they were able to narrow down about eighty-five people in the DMV area that bought the limited-edition broche. Ee also shows Booth the photo that Angela sent over of the facial reconstruction matched a Margaret Kwan. Back at the Jeffersonian, Arastoo is rambling off what he’s discovered from examining the bones. He asks Cam what she’s finding and so she tells Arastoo that she’s finding that he thinks it’s okay to share personal details about her with everyone at work. He tells Cam that it’s nothing to be ashamed of and further tells her that it’s because she’s always so professional that if she wasn’t he would kiss her right then and there which gets Cam to smile. Cam tells him that she did find that the victim has a repetitive stress injury, but only on the right shoulder. Cam tells him it’s possibly from a hobby that favored the right arm like knitting.

Booth and Aubrey go to check out Margaret’s house, as they ask the landlord’s daughter they find very light with her attitude and keep looking around the house. They discovered that Margaret had no pictures of family or friends and she was stocking up on food and water and basic supplies that were shipped to her house. Arastoo and Brennan are looking over the bones more when he points out fractures on the feet that are from impact and caused by possible hammer that showed that Margaret was tortured and it happened a week prior to her death. Cam comes in and shows them the marks she found on the body that showed Margaret was strapped down and tortured for some form of information. Angela tells Booth and Aubrey that she’s looked into Margaret Kwan and found that her life has been silent. She had no husband or kids and no contact with the outside world. She cannot find links to her or anyone else. Angela was able to get a name of a delivery man, Michael Reiss, who was a part of Booth’s Ranger unit.

Brennan, Arastoo and Cam discuss how the tortures of Aldo and Margaret are similar yet different when Hodgins comes in telling them he found a breed for the dog hair he pulled. Cam tells them that Booth said there was no sign of Margaret owning a dog and that it could have come from the killer. She then asks Brennan how Booth is doing. Brennan tells them that the death of Aldo was a blow to him and now Michael appears to be in danger. Arastoo interrupts them by stating he’s found chip between the molars, while Brennan points out there was blue residue. Booth and Aubrey go over everything they know about the case and what happened with Booth overseas with Caroline (Patricia Belcher). She points out that there are too many links pointing back at Booth for this whole thing to not be about revenge. They figure out that the killer tortured Margaret to get Michael to confess Booth’s name. Caroline tells Booth that she’s not messing around and is going to put he and Brennan along with Christine (Sunnie Pelant) and baby Hank into protective custody. Booth tells Caroline that they will make sure Max and the kids get there because he’s not leaving the case. Cam calls Booth telling them that the killer slit Margaret’s throat, which Booth points out he would only do if he was finished torturing her.

Angela tells Cam that she found something from the blue stain from Margaret’s teeth to be very high end billiards chalk. She then searches for dog license for Border Collies and found one registered to a Javor Nicovic (Eugene Alper), a man who immigrated from Serbia two decades ago. They find that his address is one of the bars listed that use the same chalk as the one on Margaret’s teeth. Brennan is packing the rest of Christine’s stuff while an agent watches her and Hank outside Brennan’s office. Max pleads with Brennan to let him help and that he has dealt with things like this before. Brennan tells Max that she needs him to be with Hank and Christine. Booth and Aubrey go to Javor’s bar where they find him at the bar wiping down the counter. As Aubrey goes behind the counter he finds a gun and keeps looking as they ask him questions about Margaret. Booth notices a picture behind Javor and asks if him if he knows who it is. Javor tells them his name is Mark Kovac (Gerard Celasco) and that he was a soccer player back in Serbia and that he still comes into the bar to play pool. Booth has a flashback to when he was on a mission and the man he had to kill was Mark Kovac’s father.

Booth hands Caroline the picture of Mark Kovac and tells her that he’s the guy and that he came over at the age of eight through the Red Cross Refugee Program and tells Caroline that if something happens he wants Caroline to remember that name and that he’s the guy. Angela tells Brennan that everything about Mark Kovac screams noble, that he served for the US Army and is working as an EMT. Booth and Aubrey go find Mark and talk to them while they talk with them Mark’s wife, Jeannine Kovac (Brit Shaw). She brings them coffee, but when they decline it she asks Mark if everything is okay. When they ask him about General Ratic, Mark says that everyone from Serbia knows. Jeannine says she doesn’t understand what’s going on. Mark admits that General Ratic was his father, which upsets Jeannine because he lied to her. When she asks why he doesn’t tell who his father was Aubrey tells Mark to inform her.

Hodgins tells Cam that Margaret was held down by duct tape the same type used on Aldo. He also tells her he found a discontinued powder and that it’s been banned for the past two decades because of its links to cancer. Cam says that maybe they should be looking for old abandoned gyms. As Aubrey leaves a bar, Caroline scares him and shows him Mark Kovac’s psyche evaluations from the military that she got without a court order and tells him he only gets one look and that he needs to tell Booth.

When Booth and Aubrey arrive to the crime scene they find Cam and Hodgins examining the body and find that it is Michael Reiss. That is after Booth tells them to check his right shoulder only to find his tattoo. Cam tells them that Michael was killed only an hour or two prior to being found. Over at the Jeffersonion Cam, Hodgins and Arastoo discover all the fracture sights when Hodgins says that the killer used every tool in the set. Cam points out that Michael was tortured more than Margaret and that Michael died of cardiac arrest and that the killer tortured him for fun. Angela tells Cam that she found a computer that was piggybacking off a Wifi and that the person using it was looking up information on Booth. Cam goes to Brennan and tells her Michael was being kept alive by an IV to suffer longer. Mark and Booth talk about how someone might be blaming the murder on him and how someone might be using his wife’s old listings. Caroline tells Booth there was a shooting at the safe house they put Max and the kids as Booth takes off.

Booth and Brennan find Hank and Christine in the back of a van as paramedics bring Max out showing he was shot multiple times. Brennan rides with Max to the hospital and Booth goes into the house. Tom (Charles Carpenter) tells Booth the shooter didn’t expect Max to be there. Booth asks Austin (Derek Ray) what happened, andhe tells Booth the shooter tripped the alarm and Max hid the kids in the basement and that he saved his life. Angela finds the two shooters were Ratic’s bodyguards back in Serbia and that they must have been tracking the family. It seems they were traced by Max’s pacemaker. Arastoo and Brennan help Booth and Caroline bring down Mark Korvac. Brennan and Max talk about the kids and Booth. He asks if she’s mad at him and she says she’s not mad and she would like to know beforehand. Max tells Brennan he was dreaming about her when she was little and they were driving as a family. As he’s mid-sentence, Max’s heart stops as Brennan stares on helpless as her father dies. Booth arrives and Brennan tells him they should have gotten there sooner, Booth just holds her as she cries.
