Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) My sound is indie-pop. I love to take influences from modern pop music and infuse them with random and interesting sounds that I love that inspire and speak to my lyrics and kind of turn pop on it’s head a little bit.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Ahhh to name a few… I love Lana Del Rey, Amy Winehouse, The 1975, No Doubt, MIA and Betty Who.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “If I Can’t Be With You.”

A) This song is a true love song. It’s about that innocent puppy love you have when you’re young and when you first meet someone and have the feeling that you would rather DIE than be without that person. When you think about it, the emotion is rash and a little silly…but it’s a feeling that we all crave to feel about someone again.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think everyone can connect with that longing and that intoxicating feeling that someone has when they wash over you. I have an addictive personality and one of my worst vices is people. I love and I love hard. When I meet someone I want to know about every inch of their brain. So, I think that’s something that’s easy for me to write about and people can identify with that emotion.

Q) How does the video play into the message of the song?

A) The video kind of allows you to write your own story. You see the strong and simple connection between to people and are able to fill in the rest for yourself. Why is this connection so strong? Will it last? Is this a good or a bad love? All these questions are for the viewer to answer.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Every song I write is different. It depends on what has inspired me that day. Sometimes a song comes from a lyric, or a melody or a concept. It just depends on what’s fueling my brain that day.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I know what I like and what I don’t like and I know what sound I’m trying to capture. I am lucky enough to work with people who can take the vision that I have in my brain and turn it into a reality!

Q) What can fans expect from a live Carrie Lane performance?

A) Very soon! I am lucky enough to have just played Balcony TV as well as Jam in The Van in order to gear up and get people excited to see me play live. I will definitely be playing in LA and NYC within the next few months and hopefully that will lead to some more national dates.

Q) Will there be an EP or full album coming in the near future?

A) Absolutely! You can expect a bunch of new tunes coming from Carrie Lane very soon!

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Oh gosh! That’s a hard question. I think right now every female pop singer is dying to work with Zedd. I am no exception.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Without your fans you really aren’t anything as an artist. I make music for myself, but the end goal is for people to hear it and love it and embrace it. Whatever I’m trying to get through by writing a song I hope someone else is able to get through by listening to it.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you. I couldn’t say it enough. I am forever grateful for the love and support that I am lucky enough to experience every day and don’t know where I would be without it.
