Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I would describe my sound as a vibe, you can get your glass of wine sip and relax.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I would say my top musical influences are Brandy and Whitney Houston. Those are definitely my top two.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “F.L.Y.”

A) You know it’s just about when you find those special friends in your life you can’t picture your life without them. My husband is my best friend, Miya [Dickey] and Marques [Houston] are also my best friends…and my dad, too! This song was definitely written with them in mind.

Q) How did you come to work with Marques Houston on the song?

A) Honestly, Marq is my uncle so getting him in the studio wasn’t too hard at all! He’s always so supportive and there for me when I need them. I feel very blessed to have veterans like him as family.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think fans can connect to the fact that it’s an album for those who have been heartbroken and it’s an album for those who are taken. So, it’s really an album that works for both audiences.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) I feel like it was a song for Marques’ and I’s friendship as well as for our mates as well. So, I feel like we tapped into the message behind it because the people who we were talking about were in the video.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I can do either, it really just depends! I can write lyrics first without any music or I can listen to an instrumental and put my lyrics to that track.

Q) Chaz X produced this track, but how much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) To be honest I LOVE to watch a producer in action…It’s so peaceful to me….and I enjoy picking which takes I like! I just have an infatuation with the writing process, so that is really my area.

Q) Your new album Taken is out now! How did you celebrate the release?

A) I celebrated the release the quarantine way – with my dad and those who I have been quarantined with since the beginning. We all hung out together and did a listening party and celebrated together.

Q) What are some themes you explore on this album?

A) Like I said earlier, I tried to explore themes for those who are single and for those who are taken so everyone could relate to the album. I wrote about heartbreak, love and friendship.

Q) What songs off Taken hold a special place in your heart and why?

A) “Always Love You” because it’s about not only my husband, but my son as well.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I have yet to perform somewhere because of COVID! So, the place I love to perform is the studio because that’s all I’ve been able to do! [laughs]

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I would like to collaborate with H.E.R. or Snoh.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’m currently listening to H.E.R.’s new release “Comfortable.” I’ve been jamming to H.E.R because she’s so raw and real and she’s a dope vocalist.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I feel as though because of the quarantine that is the main way I can connect with my fans. I would love to connect with my fans in person, but right now it’s tough due to the conditions that we’re in.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I thank you and I appreciate you. Without you I wouldn’t even be able to do what I love to do the most. There’s no greater feeling than doing a project and having individuals that love your project as much as you do.
