Cole Evan Weiss – Summer Catch

Q.  Are there any current projects that you are working on?

A.  I just finished filming a commercial for a new kind of cream that help prevents skin cancer.  And I am up for a role on “Without A Trace,” the role of Aaron.

Q.  How did you get involved with working on the movie Sandlot 2?

A.  My manager knew that I knew sign language and there was a part in the movie for a boy who knew sign language.  So, she called up and talked to them and then they got me an audition and then I went and auditioned for it.  They were actually looking for a kid who was younger than me, but she called in and told them that I knew sign language and it would be really good if they could see me.  Then I went and auditioned and went in for a call back and after the call back I was called about forty minutes later and told that I got it.

Q.  Were you a fan of the original movie The Sandlot?

A.  Yes I was.

Q.  Can you tell us a bit about your character Saul?

A.  My character Saul, he’s one of the five main boys in the sandlot ten years later.  His little brother Sammy is deaf and he helps translates for him because he’s the only one who knows sign language besides his little brother.  So when his little brother talks he has to translate so everyone knows what he’s talking about.

Q.  What made you want to be a part of this project?

A.  Well, I really loved the first one and the director has directed a number of good movies that I really like, so I wanted to be a part of that.  Cuz, a lot of people liked the first one also.

Q.  Where did you get your real life knowledge of sign language?

A.  School.  I started in seventh grade, I tried Spanish and it really didn’t work out, so I started taking sign language as my second language.

Q.  What was it like getting to work with acting legend James Earl Jones?

A.  It was really fun because we didn’t know when he was coming on set, they didn’t put it on the call sheet when he was coming, so we had no clue.  We were all in our trailers and his voice is just so powerful and so recognizable that when we came in, all he was doing was talking normally, and everybody came out of their trailers to see him.

Q.  Do you have a most memorable moment from filming Sandlot 2?

A.  Probably go-carting on the weekend, because we went with our director and the whole cast and went go-carting on the weekend.

Q.  Both movies Sandlot 2 and Rebound that you are in involve athletics, are you a big sports fan?

A.  Yeah.  I’m actually a competitor swimmer.

Q.  Is there anything that you’d like to say to your fans and supporters?

A.  Just thanks for all of your support and just believe in yourself and you can do anything that you put your mind to.
