Cole Phoenix – Hello

By  |
   Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) My sound comes from the heart. I aim for pulsing poetry. It’s not perfection, but character and originality that I aspire for and hope to inspire in others to celebrate. Creativity over popularity…Creating art from heART – that’s my motto!

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) It’s so hard to pigeonhole them! I’m a product of everything I guzzled down growing up. I’m fueled by everyone from the likes of Elvis Presley crooning “Viva Las Vegas” in that epic film alongside the gorgeous Ann Margaret – all the way through to Eminem rapping out “Lose Yourself” in 8 Mile…From The Rolling Stones through to Linkin Park, from Ella Fitzgerald to Madonna…Too many to name, too little time! I’m in debt to them for doing what I do!

Q) You recently released your song “Hello.” What is the feel/vibe for the song?

A) “Hello” is ultimately a song on starting anew after experiencing something or someone toxic. Moving on – hard as that is to do – is a must for you to soar to healthier and happier heights. I feel it’s an appropriate song to herald a fresh beginning and a fresh year for us all. Hello 2015! Bring on the refreshing journey! Despite the discouraging heartbreak “Hello” centers on, the 80s vibe of “Hello” is fundamentally fun – upbeat and encouraging!

Q) What is it about the song that fans will really connect with?

A) Heartache is a very relatable issue. It’s crushing when a crush on someone, or even a love of something, turns into a burning pain when you realize it’s no good for you, when you discover that your infatuation is not what it initially promised or appeared to be…Despite the desire to return, you learn that you need to move on and get beyond the affliction of addiction if you are to survive. That’s what “Hello” essentially is – it’s a survival song. There’s no motivational tool like a pumping music track to get you back on track and through emotional turmoil. “Hello” is lyrical therapy, the bridge I penned stresses to “start looking again…” Also, it’s very “phoenix” in the sense that the song represents a rise out of emotional struggle to triumph over tribulation – to fuel a new beginning from an ash strewn end!

Q) What is your process for songwriting? Do you need to have the music before the lyrics?

A) I come up with a concept, pen the lyrics from there and create a melody. Then, I work with fellow talented musicians to make the music. For me, the lyrics come first as I take a somewhat poetical approach to songwriting.  It’s the tenacious writer in me I guess.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) A hand fully working at all times, whether that be writing the song or writing notes to pass on to the producer. I really like being involved in the whole process. I’ve met some great people on the journey and I hope to keep connecting with such talents. There’s no goodbyes at the end of our sessions, only “Hello.”

Q) What artists would you like to share a track with in the future?

A) I’m open to collaborations! I’ve already had Trev Eyez lend his spin on “Cougar.” I’m also open to singing other songs passed on to me. “You Complete Me” came from Phoenix (Arizona) based songwriter Charles Teller, Jr. I’m really very happy to share tracks and work with artists all around the world. It’s part of the fun of making music.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Cole Phoenix performance?

A) Character! I’m an actress and have a taste for the dramatic. They can expect loads of hot people there (themselves included) as my fans are known as “Phoenix Flames.” Yes, flames because they’re hot!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with fans?

A) It’s important as it’s an immediate way to connect with my flames and the text, photos videos. etc, come from me personally. So it’s intimate! That’s why my Twitter name is @CPhoenixTweets…bit of a pun, C Phoenix Tweets – C as in Cole, but also C phonetically as in “see” Phoenix tweets as birds are often want to do – even legendary ones!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is your fan and supporter of you and your music?

A) THANK YOU! I’m eternally grateful and never be shy to say or text #HelloColePhoenix! I’ll say, text, tweet or sing “Hello” right back at you!
