“Colony” episode two Somewhere Out There takes place a few weeks after the previous one and opens with a group of men gathered in a private room while listening to an audio recording. In said recording, a group of astronauts are describing what they are seeing on their surroundings. Suddenly, one of them hears a certain sound from the distance, something that they described as music. One of the scientists informs the group that the sound has been isolated and appears to be made out of a mathematical structure and they conclude that is some kind of message that has been sent to the earth so they agreed to find a way to send a responds. In one of the monitors in front of them it shows what seems to be a sphere standing next to the earth, composed by eight little lights that makes them believe it might be a beacon, something to start from.

Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies) attempts to visit her son Bram (Alex Neustaedter) at the holding facility, but the guard at the gates tells her they are closed out and it´s not possible for her to see him. She hands the man what looks like an envelope along with a silver metal referring to it as her “papers.” The guard takes the object and the envelope and puts them aside and begins to search for Bram’s status on his lists. He informs her that he has been moved. The news terrifies Katie since her first thought is that maybe Bram has been sent to “The Factory,” but the guard can’t provide her with further information. She takes the envelope back and goes straight to see Maddie (Amanda Righetti). When she passes through the bars on the checkup line, the bars beep and she is forced to step aside in order to be frisked. A male guard approaches her and takes advantage of the situation, squeezes her breast, leaving Katie with nothing to do but to suppress the disgusting feeling it caused to her.

Katie arrives in angst to Maddie´s house and she bursts into tears while telling her Bram has been moved from the holding facility and into “The Factory.” Maddie tries to calm her down and promises she will try and take Bram out of there, something that seems to soothe Katie for the moment.

Devon (Carolyn Michelle Smith) helps Will (Josh Holloway) to clean his wound as he explains her that Charlie (Jacob Buster), his son, has been caught in the other side of the wall. He found a job at “The Occupation” so they gave him a pass to the other side that he secretly uses in his favor to look for Charlie. He has been told that Charlie has been working for a man named Solomon and he wants Devon to help him find him to what she agrees.

A group of officers are delivering boxes of food to the citizens and Katie stands in line in order to get one, but before her turn comes the officers run out of boxes leaving most of them empty handed. She comes back to the emptiness of her home feeling devastated and unaware that she has been watched through a camera by Jennifer McMahon (Kathleen Rose Perkins). Jennifer is watching Katie closely through the camera as she is called into Dan Bennett’s (Christian Clemenson) office to be interrogated about her ex-team members Will and Beau. She confesses she has no idea about what happened to them and she is given a second chance to do things right for the team, otherwise, she´ll be assigned to a different kind of tasks.

Nolan (Adrian Pasdar) arrives and he tells Maddie that Bram has been processed, but he is uncertain whether or not he will go to “The Factory.” Maddie asks him to help, but Nolan is not sure of how that would speak about their loyalty mainly now when Maddie´s initiation is just about to happen the next day. However, she makes him promise her that he would do anything as possible to help him.

Will and Devon go in search of a woman that is one of Solomon´s interest. They plan to deliver the woman in exchange of Charlie. After fighting the woman´s husband, they manage to kidnap the woman and leave the apartment. Will and Devon deliver the woman to Solomon´s men.

Jennifer arrives at her home only to find out that the place is surrounded by patrols and a bunch of officers searching inside. One of the officers comes out alleging the house is clean and they retreat, leaving a very confused Jennifer behind.

Bram and a group of people are under transportation to an unknown place. The group is dropped to an empty alley and where they are interrogated one by one about what their occupation used to be back in “The Block.” According to their skills, they will be either assigned to a specific task at a labor camp or sent back to the bus and hence to “The Factory.” The group is led to another area of the factory filled with a lot of bunk beds. As of now, their only garment is their underwear and each are given a uniform. They are informed that they have been assigned to different tasks and that they will be watching them all along.

Devon and Will arrive at Solomon´s (Johnny Whitworth) place and they are received by the man that stabbed Will a few days ago. They are taken to Solomon´s lair and they hand him a gaming chip as an “entrance pass” telling him they want to make a trade.

Will shows Solomon the picture of Charlie and tells him he lost him at “The Arrival.” Solomon feigns not to know a thing about the kid, but when Will offers him a “transit pad” he suddenly seems to remember Charlie and refers him as “the face of an angel and the heart of a thief.” Although the pad might be useful, Charlie seems to be a lot more resourceful, which pisses Will off and he has a clear change in his attitude towards Solomon. Will confronts Solomon by telling him that Charlie is alive because of him so if he wants to make a deal. Will has to show some gratitude first. Finally, one of Solomon´s informers provides them with the information of Charlie´s whereabouts and before Will and Devon leave, Solomon warns Will that the boy might not be the same he remembers as well as he might not want to be taken home either.

Will goes in search of Charlie and finds him when he is in the middle of mugging a woman along with other kids; he calls at him and quickly the kids split apart including the woman. Charlie and Will are left alone in the middle of the alley just a few meters apart from each other. Will approaches his son and hugs him while Solomon watches them from behind.

Maddie calls Katie to tell her that Nolan had managed to put Bram at a “labor camp” instead of “The Factory.” Katie is disappointment as she expected for them to help her bring Bram home. Grace has been listening to the whole exchange and confesses to Katie that maybe the reason why Bram and Will haven´t come back home is because she is not good enough, but Katie assures her this is not her fault. When Grace asks her who´s fault is this then, Katie simply couldn´t find any answer to give.

Will wakes up at the sounds of an arguing on the outside of Devon´s house where he had decided to take Charlie. He finds out that Devon is trying to bring the kid inside of the house as he tried to run away. Will finds out right there that Charlie has been hurt by Solomon and the kid lashes out saying he doesn’t want to come back home. Will goes to find Solomon to take action for what he did to Charlie.

Katie decides to pay a visit to Nolan and asks him to help Bram, but he tells her there´s nothing else he can do and that if Bram behaves well, he might be back home soon. Katie gets furious and yells at him that he can actually do something more, but he just doesn’t want to. Nolan wishes her a good day and leaves.

Bram is led with a group of people to the labor camp when suddenly they are surprised with a deafening sound as they see a spaceship been dragged into the sky. Once in the food center, Bram is eating on his own when an unknown man spots him from another table. When he stands up and approaches him, a young woman intercepts him by asking Bram to go sit with her and her friends at another table and the man has no other choice but to go back.

Maddie shows up at Katie´s house and lashes out on her for visiting Nolan behind her back. Katie confesses she doesn´t believe that she was pushing Nolan hard enough to help them with Bram´s case, but Maddie retorts that this is not only about her and her problems but because of the consequences this may bring to all of them.

Maddie´s initiation day has come and at the ceremony, she is welcomed as a member for the preparation to “The Greatest Day.” The members surround her, Nolan included, leaving her alone in the room in order for her to conclude the ceremony.

She walks straight to a table set at the other end of the room that has a little silver box on it. Rays of light seems to come from all around the box and when Maddie opens it, she is drawn into a kind of a fantasy where she sees herself floating naked on an empty space all surrounded by light when is suddenly brought back to the present. Nolan is standing just right in front of her wearing a satisfied smirk. He finally walks towards her and hugs her.

Jenifer visits Katie at the bar and asks her to work for her. She wants Katie to give her information about Broussard (Tory Kittles), but she refuses. Katie says to Jennifer that she is trying to focus on being a mother of one child at the moment and asks her to no to destroy what remains of her family.

Will goes looking for Solomon, shooting everyone on his way until he reaches for him and they fight each other. Will asphyxiates and beats Solomon to death, unaware of the kids gathered behind him watching the whole scene happen. He introduces himself as Charlie´s father and asks them to go with him so they can be safe, but they just run away from there, leaving Will standing there with Solomon´s dead body behind him.
