QQ. What are some of the other recent projects that you've been working on?
A. The other thing I've done recently is that I did a costarring role on "CSI: Las Vegas." I played a showgirl who lives with a bunch of other showgirls and a man comes and kills us all. It was pretty fun to play someone who was murdered; I got to have the prosthetics put on and blood all over me. It was really exciting and I think that airs in a couple of weeks.
Q. What can you tell us about the new ABC Family show you've been working on?
A. The show is called "Greek" and it is for ABC Family. We just saw the screening of the pilot episode on Monday and it was so much fun and the episode is great. Everyone that they have cast is just fantastic; it was really fun to watch. I play the lead's best friend named Ashley and the whole show is about fraternity and sorority life. What it is like to join them and living inside the fraternity and sorority houses and all the drama that happens and who is dating who. I play this outgoing best friend who ends up being torn between her best friend and a new girl that has joined the sorority because they don't like each other. My character is really silly, likes to dance and drink and party. They haven't told us one hundred percent but we begin filming in May and they're hoping to have the show premiere this summer around July.
Q. Was anything about the role challenging for you?
A. Not yet, not so far, we'll see what happens with the other scripts. So far, she's really fun and it's been pretty cool to play someone who just has so much fun. It wasn't scary or difficult to do that.
Q. What drew you to wanting to be a part of the project?
A. I read the script and fell in love with it; I was dying of laughter. I was sitting in my room and I read the script two or three times and I had a girlfriend come over and read it with me. We were just dying! We each played different characters while we were reading it and we just thought it was so funny, great and well-written. I just knew that I wanted to do this; I thought this was going to be so great and such a fun show. It was very easy for me to say that this was something cool that I want to be doing.
Q. Who else is a part of the wonderful cast for the show?
A. The two leads of the show play brother and sister and they are Jacob Zachar and Spencer Grammer. They are the ones that lead the show and it's the storyline of how the brother and sister get along in a college environment because the brother kind of comes from being a Boy Scout and he's kind of nerdy and he's going to be studying Polymer Science when he gets to college. His sister is the really beautiful one who is very social; her social life is her life. It's the dynamics between the two of them and Spencer and Jacob who are pretty much the leads in the show.
Q. Do you feel like there is a lot of chemistry with the cast that will translate well when the show shoots more episodes?
A. Oh, definitely! We were just saying the other day how lucky we are that we all get along so well. There is no one who is a diva on set or you are uncomfortable to work with. Everyone just loves each other and we're all really looking forward to becoming a new family.
Q. How do you think the show will stack up against the other ABC Family shows already in their lineup?
A. The show will definitely have a lot of the same audience that those shows have; a younger audience. But, I think this show will be a little more relatable to everyone. It's easy for everyone to watch and it's not all drama; I would call it more of a dramedy. I think that there is a lot of witty comedy that happens within the show. So, the new lineup will be great because our show has got so much fun in it. Then, there is "Wildfire" who has the same production company. "Kyle XY" and their new show "Lincoln Heights" is great but those are more dramas and this show has more comedy with really silly characters.
Q. Does comedic timing come naturally to you or is it something that you work at?
A. The comedy was really, really fun and it's just the kind of stuff when you read it; you just know how to say it. You know the joke, you understand it, the timing that we have with each other as actors is perfect. We get along so great, we work together so great, and we feed off each other so great. I went to school at The Groundlings and learned comedy techniques and timing. Mostly, this came pretty naturally, the kind of comedy that this is really understandable and easy to get and do.
Q. Where did you get your experiences for your portrayal with your audition and did that change at all with the script for the pilot?
A. I really related to this character a lot and I saw a lot of myself in the character of Ashley and I saw a lot of my friend's personalities. I am naturally in real life not as crazy of a party girl as this character is. I am very outgoing and personable but not to the extreme that Ashley takes it to. I really got to think about which friends of mine are like that and act as if I was in the same situation that they'd put themselves in. That's kind of where I took a lot of inspiration from but the audition scene was different than what was in the pilot script. I had to do a scene that they had written just especially for the audition to show a little bit more of the dramatic side about having to stand up to my friend and really tell her how I was feeling and confront her. That was really fun, I don't ever get into arguments with my real friends, it was something I really had to think about how I would yell at a friend. I thought about friends, friendships that I've had, and a few things that I've wanted to say to people and how that feels and that's where I would take inspiration from, real life experience mostly.
Q. What would you like to say to say to all the potential viewers in order to draw them into the show?
A. Get ready to see what college life is going to be like; it's really fun! It's going to be a really fun adventure with lots of surprises in the show. When I read the script all of a sudden my jaw dropped so there are a lot of cool surprises that happen.
