QQ. What are some of the recent projects that you've been working on?
A. Since "October Road" got picked up for a second season it's kept me pretty busy. We have one more episode to shoot in the first thirteen episodes and that's what's been happening in the last three and a half months. I'm actually going to be starting a new movie and I'm not sure who they've cast, I'm not sure who they've gotten, but it's an independent movie called Scribble. Then, hopefully "October Road" gets picked up for another nine and a third season so I can go back and do some more.
Q. What can you tell us has been happening this season with your "October Road" character Ronnie and the show?
A. In last weeks episode it was revealed that Ronnie has a secret crush on Aubrey, his brother Nick's girlfriend. That storyline is just kicking in and before that they discovered some more truth about the family. Owen has moved in with Nick, Ronnie, and The Commander so there is kind of a family understanding aspect happening with the characters. Now, also, with Ronnie's love storyline with Aubrey it can get complicated. Ronnie has a crush on her and he doesn't know what to do about it. I think everyone is just going to have to wait and see what's going on with the next few episodes. Then there are some things that I think are going to be surprising too with Tom Berrenger's character and the family dynamic. Also, some things that could possibly change and alter their lives in a really big way.
Q. The show has gotten some great acclaim, did you expect this would happen when you first began working on it?
A. You hope for people to really love it and to have those really hardcore, devout fans that tune in every week. I don't think you ever expect it or say "This is a show that's going to be a big hit with people and they're just going to lock on and it's going to be a great big, huge success." I know people wish they could do that but I don't think you could ever really prepare yourself for that. You just hope for the best and you put the faith in the writing and the faith in the cast. You hope for a great story and that the characters are interesting enough to people that they want to tune in week after week. We're all ecstatic about the response that we've gotten from people and we're really just starting to get those hardcore viewers that tune in week after week and are on the message boards talking about the show and creating the buzz. I think that's part of the recipe in making a show go beyond just what's on the screen. It's the people that are watching and talking about it that I think is creating that huge success for us and I hope it keeps going.
Q. What do you think it is about the show that's gotten such a huge reaction from fans?
A. I have to say I think it's all about the relationship that these characters have with each other. The people that can watch the show and say, for example, I've seen on message boards someone say "I'm just like Nick," or "I'm just like Ronnie." People are relating to the characters and real or not real, they see these people's lives played out and the relatability of these relationships that they all have, they keep growing, and they keep getting interesting and they keep developing. I think that's why people are tuning in. They want to know what's going to happen when Nick finds out that his brother has a crush on his girlfriend. People have that urge and they're interested in these character and they want to know what's going to happen next. I think that and we have a great cast, everyone is so talented, I think it's the camaraderie and the joy that everybody has going to work and working together comes across on the screen. I think everybody wants to gravitate towards something positive like that.
Q. The cast has wonderful chemistry together, did that come naturally or did it it take some time as filming went along?
A. It was a little bit of both since we shot our first season in Atlanta and we were all together. We were hanging out when we weren't working and everybody got to know each other. I think that translated and it only has grown stronger since we've moved back to LA to start shooting. Everyone still gets along, it's a good team from the writers to the cast to our director of photography to our directors to casting, to everyone. We all have a relationship with each other and it's one big family. I think the show would be drastically different if one of those relationships and the inner workings had a hint in it of a little difference. There are no catfights, here is no jealousy, and no talking behind this person's back. Everyone is happy for everyone else and the success of the show and we know we're just at the beginning steps in terms of the whole television show and its life on the air. We try to keep it positive and I think it is beginning to translate, it is translating to what is on screen.
Q. Is there a place online where fans of your character and fans of your work can go to learn more about you?
A. We're working right now on a website if they want to click over to Myspace, that link is on IMDB.com, and they can click on that and there are updates and new photos, interviews, and things that which we try to keep as current as possible. For right now, that's the place to check that out but we're working on getting up a website hopefully soon and that I am sure will be advertised on the Myspace site as well.
Q. What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A. It's so nice for someone in my position who is coming up to have people take an interest in and I get emails and messages that say, "You're really great on the show," " I can't wait to see you in this or that," or it's really nice to hear those sorts of things. It's not often that I get to tell people thank you or that I appreciate it, but I really do. I am just so grateful for it and I hope that I don't let them down. Hopefully there are bigger and better things to come and they join me on the ride. I think that's awesome that they find something in me that they say, I'm interested in that or I'm interested in him and knowing what he does. I am really grateful, and to any of those people like that, I just say thank you. Don't be scared to write me an email or to send me a message. It may take me a while but I respond to every single one of them.
