Q

Q.  What are some of the recent projects that you've been working on?

A.  Right now I am working on a project called Skateland and it's an Indie film.  It's set in the 80s and it is a coming of age drama.  I knew right away that I had to have this part.

Q.  What can you tell us about the premise for the film and about your character?

A.  It's set in east Texas and the main character of the film is Shiloh Fernandez.  He plays a guy who is at a crossroads in his life and he works at the roller rink and it's about to shut down.  He has to figure out what he wants to do with his life and he has a complicated relationships with his on and off girlfriend who is played by Ashley Greene and his sister, that's me, and his parents.  I play Mary Wheeler and she's very motherly.  She wants the best for her brother and she wants him to go to college so she annoys him about it all the time.  She doesn't feel that she's annoying him though because it comes from love and she firmly believes she knows what's best for her brother.  Her parents are getting a divorce so she kind of takes the role of the mother because the mom is lazy and she feels some hatred towards her mother.

Q.  What is it about the film that made you want to be a part of it?

A.  It takes place in Longview, Texas and I have a lot of family in Longview and I actually grew up going there all of the time.  When I was reading the script I was like, "This takes place in Longview, I really have to get this now!"  It takes place in the 80s and I love the 80s, like every movie that I love is from the 80s.

Q.  It sounds like you were able to draw on a lot of your own experiences for the film.

A.  Yeah, my dad in the movie works on an oil field and a lot of my uncle's side of the family, his whole side of the family, worked on oil fields.  I thought that was pretty neat.

Q.  Where else did you draw from for your portrayal?

A.  I think I can kind of relate to Mary because she's motherly towards her brother and I admit that I am kind of motherly towards my brother sometimes.  I am sure that really annoys him!  He's older than I am, so I am sure that it really annoys him.

Q.  Has anything about the role been challenging for you?

A.  I know that sometimes in real life I am motherly, but she's very, very motherly and she's very smart.  She's just very in control all of the time and I don't think I am a person who is in control all of the time and she's also very proper.

Q.  Did you all have instant cast chemistry or did it take some time to develop?

A.  I think that we all had chemistry from the very beginning.  Shiloh, who plays my brother in the movie, he treated me like a sister throughout all of the filming.  Tony Burns, he's a first time director, he's great and I really, really like him.  The whole cast just really clicked together which was very nice.

Q.  What do you think it is about the film that will draw viewers in?

A.  I think it's a film for any age and there is a time in everybody's life where you have to grow up and you have to make responsible decisions.  This is about every character having to make responsible decisions and growing up.  I think that a lot of people can relate to it.

Q.  Is there a place online where people can go to learn more about you?

A.  I have a website and it is www.haleyramm.com and I have a Myspace page that I actually just made and it is myspace.com/offficialhaleyramm.
