New Page 1Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?
A) I just finished doing "CSI: New York" and I also did the season finale of "Drop Dead Diva."
Q) What is the premise for the film Trucker and who is your character Rick?
A) Trucker is about a woman (played by Michelle Monaghan) who has a kid, but isn't sure the direction she wants to go in life. She ends up running away from her problems and leaves her kid with his father, who is played by Benjamin Bratt. Basically, she gets her trucker's license and hits the road. I play a local guy in her town who gives her a hard time for flirting with my sister's boyfriend.
Q) What did you find challenging about your role?
A) There were some physical scenes with Michelle Monaghan that had to be handled with a lot of care. She walks in on him trying to rob her and he goes a little too far by trying to sexually attack her. That was a difficult and challenging thing to do because there was so much physicality and we wanted it to look real.
Q) What was it like working with director James Mottern?
A) It was fantastic! I have nothing, but admiration for him. I think he is an up and coming talent. I think you'll be hearing a lot more from him. He was a James Fellowship winner at Sundance a while ago. This was kind of his first script to get off the ground and it is sort of his baby. I read a lot of scripts and most of them are so-so or have kind of been done before. When I read this, I saw the original content there and the characters really jumped off the page. James Mottern was excellent to work for.
Q) What was your most memorable moment from filming the movie?
A) It was probably doing my scenes with Michelle Monaghan. She's a real sweetheart and is definitely up and coming. She's an actress I really admire. It's not often that you get to work with actors or actresses that are doing really well and are in a position where most actors and actresses would love to be. Any opportunity for an actor to be working with someone of her stature is a great thing and that was the highlight of working on the film.
Q) Why do you think people will want to take their time to see Trucker?
A) It's gritty! Michelle Monaghan went and got her trucker's license to do this film. She took it very seriously. It's nice to see a female lead in what would normally be portrayed by a man, but she kind of took on that part. You don't see a lot of these kind of outlaw women leaving their kids behind and driving a truck around. Usually, those parts are left to the men. Plus, it emotionally rips at your heart. It's a sad story. The kid who plays her son is named Jimmy Bennett and he's a great little actor. His resume is like three times the size of mine! There is a scene when he and Benjamin are talking and he tells the boy that he's not going to be around much longer. I remember reading that and, especially watching it for the first time, and feeling it really rip at my heart. It's an emotional and gritty film. It's a fun ride. They don't make a lot of films like that these days and you get a lot of bang for your buck out of it.
Q) Where can people go online to learn more about you?
A) The Internet Movie Database is a great place to learn about me. They can also Google me and I'm also trying to get a website together for myself. That way, it will be easier for people to check me out and see what I'm doing.
