New Page 1Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?
A) I am working on a TV show called "Are We There Yet?" It comes on TBS at 9pm ET/PT on Wednesdays. I currently am in Philadelphia shooting a series regular role on the TV show called "Electric Company." It was actually on TV when my parents were young and they are remaking it. Besides "Are We there Yet," I can next be seen in a guest-starring role on the new drama for A&E called "The Glades," which is a cop drama. My episode airs in July.
Q) Please tell us about your character Kevin on "Are We There Yet?"
A) He is the bratty one. He always messes with his whole family. He has a stepfather that he's trying to test to see if he is worthy to be his father since he hasn't had a father-figure in his life. He's a normal ten year old though.
Q) What made you want to be an actor?
A) When I was younger, I would watch TV and say the lines before people said them. So, my parents put me in acting classes when I was about nine or ten years old. I was an extra in a film called Nailed that was filmed in my hometown of Columbia, South Carolina. It was a really hot day and we were driving home when my dad asked if I had fun. I said, "Yeah, I think I am going to be doing this for the rest of my life." It's what I love to do.
Q) What do you find the most challenging about your role as Kevin?
A) The hardest thing would be his reaction and responses to things. He has kind of smart mouth so sometimes I have to turn that on since I am not that type of person. I also think it is very fun to have something difficult to do because that means that you're getting better at your job by learning more. For me, it's easier to play a hard part because you're learning things than when you play an easy part which is not as much fun.
Q) What is it like working with Executive Producer Ice Cube?
A) He's the nicest guy ever! He's hilarious and really nice. We had seen all the "Are We There Yet Movies" so when my mom first met him, she expected him to be like his character Nick. Ice Cube was always nice, but my mom was expecting him to be different. He's the nicest guy ever and really funny.
Q) What are some of the similarities and differences between Kevin on the TV show and in the movie?
A) He's a little different than the movie. I think he's matured since the last movie. He's pretty much the same character, but I think he has matured from young Kevin to tween Kevin.
Q) What has been your most memorable moment from filming the show?
A) My favorite moment would probably be filming the commercials and promotions for the show. I got to dance around a bit and I love to dance.
Q) Why will people want to take their time to tune in to see "Are We There Yet?"
A) Kevin is the youngest, but the cast goes all the way up to his grandmother. So, I think the whole family can come and sit down to watch the show. There is nothing on TV right now that the whole family can sit down to watch. There is stuff separately for kids, teenagers and adults. So, I am glad that we were able to bring this back to where everyone can watch it. Also, it can relate to people with everyday life.
Q) Where can people go online to learn more about you?
A) They can go to http://www.tbs.com and search for "Are We There Yet." They'll have a whole page about me, about my character, the other cast and games. It also has all the episodes they've shown so far.
