Q. What are some of the recent projects that you've been working on?
A. Like a couple of my “Bunheads” co-stars, this is the first major project that I have been involved in. We are all having a great time learning and growing together on the show!
Q. You'll soon be seen in the ABC Family show "Bunheads," what can you tell us about the premise for the show and about your character Bettina?
A. The show revolves around Michelle, a former dancer that impulsively marries a man, moves to his sleepy coastal town, and takes a role at her new mother-in- law's ballet school. My character Bettina “Boo” Jordan loves ballet and would do anything to become a real “bunhead.” She is determined, a hard worker, has a positive outlook on life, sees the good in others, and is a dreamer.
Q. The show centers heavily around dancing, what kind of training and dance background do you have?
A. I began dancing at the age of three and studied ballet, tap, and jazz. When I was twelve, with aspirations of a ballet career, I switched to a career track ballet school where I studied and performed until I graduated from high school. During the summers I attended intensive summer ballet programs in New York, Boston, New Mexico, and Southern California.
Q. What is it about your role as Bettina that you have found challenging?
A. My character “Boo” and I share many of the same struggles as a dancer. At times it's hard because it's like reliving those difficult moments all over again. But the challenges I faced as a dancer helped me better understand “Boo” and I think it really helped me bring a more realistic and personal feel to her.
Q. Did the chemistry with the cast come naturally or did it take some time to develop?
A. Really, we all had a great chemistry right from the start. Everyone from the cast to production have been terrific to work with and it makes going to work each day fun!
Q. Do you have a really memorable moment from filming the show so far?
A. In episode two, our director Amy Sherman-Palladino told us to “walk it backwards." We thought she meant to do the whole scene backwards...including our lines! We all had a pretty good laugh on that one.
Q. Is there anyone that you would really like to see guest star on the show?
A. I think it would be great to have a guest band like Coldplay or One Republic come and play and do something choreographed to their music.
Q. What do you think it is about the show that will draw viewers in?
A. No question, Sutton Foster and Kelly Bishop are the real draw and are really terrific in it! When viewers tune in I think they will be amazed at how great the two of them are together. I also think Sutton Foster fans will be really happy to see how nicely she has transitioned from Broadway star to television star.
Q. Do you have a latest guilty pleasure? Are you into any particular book, sport, music group or activity?
A. Did someone say guilty pleasure? I hate to admit it, but I'm kind of hooked on shopping! I also love to watch the Clippers play and when I need to clear my head I listen to music like The Fray or Muse while working out at the gym.
