Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – Josh’s Sister Is Getting Married!

Anyone who watches “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” knows that it’s more than just singing and dancing (which is awesome by the way). It’s a show about a woman’s journey into self-discovery, the people’s lives she touches along the way and their own self-discovery journeys. We all have a little Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom) inside all of us from uncertainty and self-doubt.

In the episode Josh’s Sister Is Getting Married, Rebecca had some wrongs that she needed to right. The episode picks up where it left off with Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III) questioning Rebecca about whether she is in love with him after finding the photos of them together. “Yes, Josh, I love you madly and passionately with all my heart, my soul and my being,” which is what Rebecca might have been thinking. But what she actually said was something about having been in love with him and now she’s over it and getting rid of all her “Josh Stuff.” Yeah, Josh that doesn’t sound strange that this woman has Josh Stuff? But, okay.

The episode also gave us a chance to see more of Greg’s (Santino Fontana) dealing of his own self-worth. Most of the time Greg’s storyline primarily is as a part of what ever drama Rebecca has pulled him into. But who is Greg and how does her really feel about himself? Like Rebecca, Greg is an overachiever who unfortunately is underachieving. This gives him a bitter, jaded outlook. When he receives a grade of C- on an assignment at a class he’s taking, Greg laments in a great song called “I Could If I Want To.”

At Whitefeather and Associates, Rebecca tells Paula (Donna Lynne Champlin) what happened with Josh as she gets rid of her Josh memorabilia, including her prized Josh macaroni portrait. Note to the “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” prop department – that macaroni portrait is amazing. I wish I had one! The Chan family arrive and Josh’s sister, Jayma (Tess Paras) asks Rebecca to be a bridesmaid in her wedding because Rebecca’s height matches perfectly with the groomsman she’ll be paired with. Hey, that’s the best reason for being a bridesmaid! Who needs all the emotion involved with picking a close friend? Paula is thrilled, especially thinking about how this will make Valencia (Gabrielle Ruiz) feel. As viewers will recall, The Chans aren’t actually card carrying members of Valencia’s fan club. So, Valencia wasn’t asked to be a bridesmaid for which Paula is thrilled and encourages Rebecca to accept the Chans’ offer. As Paula puts it, “This would kill Valencia, like a bug, dead on the ground, legs in the air, now she’s a ghost.” But Rebecca, as mentioned earlier, is into righting all her wrongs so she suggests Valenica be asked to participate as a bridesmaid too and the Chans agree. Darn it Rebecca! Now it’s time for Operation Paula Sabotage Valencia.

Back to Greg, what’s a good way to feel better about yourself and your failures? Help the love struck grocery clerk you know in his unrequited love life. Always a matchmaker, never a long-term boyfriend. But it also helps Greg realize that he’s wasted too much time on thinking about Rebecca.

We return to The Chans Big Fat Non-Greek Wedding plans at the bridal shop where Valencia arrives looking like an angel. A Victoria’s Secret Angel anyway, complete with fluffy white wings. Apparently, she was on a photo shoot. Gabrielle Ruiz really rocked the angel wings attire and looks like a real Victoria’s Secret model! Valencia confronts Rebecca about the kiss and tells her “If it was any other situation I would take off my earrings, my extensions and my wings and curb stomp you.” Rebecca apologizes for all she did to come between Josh and Valenica and tells her thatshe’ll help build Valenica up to the Chans.

Meanwhile, Paula is hard at work on Operation Paula Sabotage Valencia, trying to get rash making poison oak. But, of course, Suri on her smartphone is not cooperating, providing her with useless information for what it thinks she says.

The bridesmaids are having a gay ole time at the bridal shop. Valenica and Rebecca try bond over wedding dresses and when Rebecca mentions how awful she would look in the dress due to her heavy boobs, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” delivers another brilliant song and dance sequence “Heavy Boobs,” in which Rebecca sings about her chest-heaviness. Great lyrics include that her breasts “have the volume of a toddler’s head.” The song was an ode to every woman with larger breasts and a fun public service announcement to those with smaller breasts who might have considered breast enlargement.

Valencia tries on the wedding dress and, as expected, makes a beautiful bride. She asks Rebecca to take a photo of her in the dress, which Paula later is able to hack off the Cloud and send under Valenica’s social media account with #hotterthanthebride. So, Paula seems to be on two missions for Rebecca: get her with Josh and crush Valencia like a bug. It makes this viewer wonder, does Paula have something more personal against Valenica? I hope this will be explored more in Season Two. Jayma is furious with Valencia because she saw the tweet. Rebecca realizes that Paula is the culprit, but takes the blame. The Chans apologize to Valencia and Rebecca is relieved of her bridesmaid’s duties. Later when Rebecca confronts her, Paula admits she’s afraid Rebecca won’t want to spend time with her if she’s not going after Josh. Aw Paula! She loves being Rebecca’s gal pal as much as viewers love seeing their friendship.

Rebecca then decides that she wants to spend time with Greg, but he turns her down. Greg, like Heather told him, tells her he’s not going to be anyone’s second choice anymore. So, Rebecca shows him she’s ready for him to be her number one and they kiss.

Is this the end of the “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and her pursuit of her crush? I doubt it because “and they all lived happily ever after” is just plain boring.
