Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – Josh Has No Idea Where I Am!

Previously, a bunch (no pun intended) of things happened to Rebecca making her decide that West Covina was not for her after all and that New York, New York it’s a wonderful town.

Now, Rebecca (Rachel Bloom) is on a plane and who is sitting beside her, but her therapist Dr. Akopian (Michael Hyatt). I’ve heard of house calls, but never plane calls. I wonder how flying the friendly skies will be sitting beside that one person who may force you to be honest with yourself. Dr. Akopian wants to know why Rebecca moved to West Covina in the first place. And with that, viewers get the amazing opening credits.

Meanwhile, back in West Covina, Paula (Donna Lynn Champlin) is at Rebecca’s apartment showing the mover where to put the new couch she brought for her friend. Paula’s also doing a bit of over sharing with the mover about Rebecca’s life. She then decides that she’s going to have herself a little staycation at Rebecca’s home.

Back on the plane, Rebecca admits to Dr. Akopian that even though she’s been lying to everyone about her reasons to moving to West Covina, she did in fact move because of her love for Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III). “You lie to yourself well enough, you can convince other people, too,” Rebecca laments. When the flight attendant comes and gives Rebecca some peanuts and her hand goes right through Dr. Akopian’s body, one of two things are obvious: either the good doc is dead and a ghost or Rebecca is dreaming. Well, actually it is sort a combination of both: Dr. Akopian is a Dream Ghost, meaning Rebecca is asleep and all this is happening in her dream. Apparently, Rebecca mixed alcohol and sleeping pills and was knocked right out.

You’ve never heard of a Dream Ghosts? Well, sit back and enjoy as Dr. Akopian trades in her medical degree for a mic and is joined by two other Dream Ghost Supremes: Amber Riley and Ricki Lake! They are doing a full Dreamgirls rendition to rival the musical. Kudos on another “Crazy Ex Girlfriend” musical extravaganza! For laymans, Dream Ghosts help to guide you in your dream state.

Dr. Akopian plays the Ghost of Dream Ghost Past and takes Rebecca on a This Is Your Life journey in an attempt to show her the meaning of love. First stop, puberty. We see young Rebecca visiting her father after he walked out on her mother. She is a very smart young girl who used her bat mitzvah money on a plane ticket to get to him. Mr. Bunch seems happy to see and spend time with his daughter. But when Mrs. Bunch (Tovah Feldshuh) comes to retrieve their daughter, The Ghost of Christmas Past – I mean Dr. Dream Ghost Akopian – and Rebecca cue us in on that fact that Rebecca’s father DID NOT want her there. In fact, it was Rebecca’s mother who tried and failed to convince him to man up and be a father to the daughter who idolized him. So, all these years Rebecca blamed her mother when, in fact, her mother was trying to protect her from the awful truth that her father abandoned her and didn’t have time in his life for her.

Meanwhile, back at “Casa Rebecca,” Paula’s settling right in on her staycation. She’s wearing Rebecca’s robe and going through her mail. She looking at photos of Rebecca and Josh when who should knock at the door, but Josh himself! Josh is surprised to see Paula at Rebecca’s, especially since Rebecca is not there. And Paula is REALLY surprised to see Josh, wondering why he’s not in Hawaii. Since Josh changed his mind about going to Hawaii, Paula tells him that she knows all about Josh kissing Rebecca and he shares that he told Valencia who didn’t break up with him. That makes Paula realize Rebecca’s not going to Hawaii either. And since Rebecca didn’t call her, where is she? Darryl (Pete Gardner) shows up wondering the same thing, as Rebecca didn’t show up for work and is not answering his texts and calls.

Next stop on the journey of Rebecca Bunch’s life is College Road. We see Rebecca in her law school class where Annalise Keating is giving a lecture on motive. No we don’t because that’s a different show on another network. On this show, we see a drama class doing a Moby Dick interpretation. Apparently, Rebecca was interested in drama at one time. This shouldn’t be that surprising because Rebecca’s life is all about drama. Anyway, the nerdy, but sweet boy in her class likes Rebecca, but of course she hooks up with the jock because she doesn’t see the love possibility right in front of her. Sound familiar? Also, this was the time in her life when Rebecca was considering changing her major to theater because of her passion for acting. Dr. Dream Ghost Akopian tells Rebecca that love isn’t always about a person, it can be a passion for something.

In the non-dream world of West Covina, Paula, Josh and Darryl are joined by Greg (Santino Fontana) in the search for Rebecca. Well, it appears that Greg isn’t too worried about Rebecca who he says is always pulling stunts like this. Paula is able to access Rebecca’s emails because she knows the password and the group discover Rebecca is on her way back to New York.

Dr. Dream Ghost Akopian brings Rebecca back to her apartment in West Covina to show her Paula, Josh and Darryl’s worry. Rebecca even learns that although he pretends to be indifferent, Greg is also worried as he has been texting every hospital and morgue for information on her whereabouts. This is a far cry from when she left New York for West Covina and everyone celebrated.

When she finally returns to the real world, Rebecca is happily greeted by all her friends. Josh stays behind after everyone leaves and after finding photos of them together asks, “What are these? Are you in love with me?”

Well, Duh! How will Rebecca respond to Josh’s question? Watch next week to find out!
