Devon Werkheiser – Them Man With The Plan

Q.  What are the current projects that you are working on?

A.  I’m working on “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide,” it’s the Nickelodeon show that I am on, and looking for movies.  I auditioned for a movie with Billy Bob Thorton and Seann William Scott and I’m just looking out for movies and just doing the show.  It keeps me busy all day everyday, except for this week since I have the week off.

Q.  For those who aren’t familiar with it, can you tell us a bit about the show “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide” and your character Ned?

A.  It’s about a kid, Ned, who created a survival guide to middle school but the tips sort of apply to every different kind of schools.  He just goes around with his two best friends, Cookie and Moze, and they get in like crazy situations that sort of depict the tips and he also says some tips directly into the camera.  It’s just a really funny show, it’s crazy, our executive producer works on “The Fairly Odd Parents,” so it’s sort of like a live action cartoon.  Ned’s the underdog that you root for I guess, he’s sort of a lot like me, and he’s got so many friends and his two best friends and he helps everyone else out, even the bully that picks on him he always helps him too.

Q.  Ned hands out his survival tips, are these actual tips kids can use in class, or are they over exaggerated?

A.  No, they are exaggerated because it’s like real life in a cartoon so it’s really exaggerated but the tips still apply to real life middle school and real life elementary school.

Q.  What made you want to be a part of this show?

A.  It’s hilarious and the cast is great, every kid is so nice, and even the teachers are awesome.  The executive producer is like my role model, he is the nicest, coolest guy.  He’s just the man, Scott Fellows, I love him, yeah it’s a hilarious show.

Q.  What is it like for you getting to work with a group of actors around your own age?

A.  It’s a blast, I went out with all of them last night, because we’re all like friends on and off set.  It’s great cuz moving from Atlanta to L.A., I didn’t get to meet a lot of people when I work everyday, so it’s kind of hard for me to make friends off set.  So, it’s awesome to have so many kids I can hang out with on set and be really good friends with.

Q.  “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide” is extremely popular with preteens and teens, did you think that the show would be as successful as it has turned out to be?

A.  Yeah, I hoped it would be this successful, it’s doing great right now.  I am hoping I can continue it into high school.

Q.  What is it like getting to work for such an outstanding network like Nickelodeon?

A.  A blast!  It’s a kids network so obviously it’s going to be a lot of fun.  Like Kids Choice Awards, they know how to throw an awesome party, they always have fun things that let kids play.  Nickelodeon is a blast!

Q.  You were recently at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, what was that experience like for you?

A.  Kids Choice Awards was awesome, it is the most fun place that I have ever been to.  I like that it is centered around the kids so of course they know how to have a good time.  It is awesome to be able to introduce Simple Plan, that was really fun because I got to do it with Amanda Bynes.  I met her and she is like the queen of Nickelodeon in my eyes so it was cool to meet her cuz she’s been there, she’s been in a couple of Nickelodeon shows so she knew what was happening, she was just really nice to me.  It was great to work with her and the Kids Choice Awards were a blast, I got a picture of Cameron Diaz and Halle Berry and Hayden Christianson and Chris Rock, it was really awesome to see those celebrities.

Q.  In the movie We Were Soldiers you played Mel Gibson’s son, what was it like getting to work with such a well known actor?

A.  That was like my first sort of real job, even though I was young but it was the most amazing experience.  Mel Gibson is one of the biggest celebrities and I think he’s a great actor, so working with him on my first movie was amazing, and he’s such a nice guy.  He was never like a diva actor, he was with the kids at lunch instead of going off into his trailer.  Working with him and seeing that movie is amazing.

Q.  What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A.  In my spare time, pretty much what every kid does I guess, XBox, I just got my PSP.  I love video games, I am a big video game fan but also guitar, I play guitar and I love to jam with my friends.  Movies and just hanging around the apartment with your friends.

Q.  Is there anyone you’d really like to work with in the future?

A.  Johnny Depp probably.  Johnny Depp is like a role model, he’s a phenomenal actor, he is like every character that he plays.  Like Edward Scissorhands is so different from Captain Jack in Pirates of the Caribbean but he got so into each of the characters that he’s just a phenomenal actor.

Q.  Do you have anything that you’d like to say to fans and supporters of your career?

A.  Thanks for watching, thanks for supporting me, and if any of you ever want to act, don’t give up and keep trying.
