Q) What got you into yachting?

A) I wanted more from life! I wasn’t ready for an office job and got introduced into the industry by a colleague/friend who said that it would be perfect for me.

Q) How familiar were you with the series before joining the show?

A) I knew of the series from being in yachting, but had never watched a full episode.

Q) Captain Lee is known for his no-nonsense policies. Did that make you nervous join the show?

A) Every captain has the right to exercise their authority and I respect that. I am quite used to it so it didn’t faze me at all.

Q) Were there certain parts of your life that you deemed off limits to the camera?

A) I’m a very open person! Sometimes too open! [laughs] I didn’t plan to keep anything hidden, but I didn’t actively push to tell my whole life story! I think it’s better to have things exposed naturally and there should always be things that only certain people get to learn.

Q) We have seen many of the crew clash with Trevor. What was your first impression of him?

A) I initially thought that he was a rather hectic person and he clearly found things difficult onboard. Before I witnessed his drunk behavior I tried to talk with him and gather more understanding of him as a person, but it was hard. He wasn’t a bad person but he wasn’t right for “Below Deck.”

Q) Watching the episodes when they air gives you new insight. What did you think of Kelley and Nico’s bet to snog (kiss) you?

A) [laughs] It came as a surprise! I’m flattered and found it quite funny. Who wouldn’t want Kelley [Johnson] and Nico [Scholly] attracted to you?!

Q) What was it like for you working with Head Stew Kate?

A) Kate was a breath of fresh air in many respects. She was expressive and creative, qualities that tend to disappear in lots of chief stews after years in yachting. I liked that she let my creative side fly and though our characteristics may not have always aligned at work, I learned a lot from her and would have liked to have formed more of a personal relationship.

Q) What were some of your most memorable moments from filming?

A) Funnily enough, the afternoon shown in episode five when we all swam in the sea on charter! Sierra [Storm] and I really bonded here and Nico persuaded me to jump off the yacht from bridge deck, which I’ve never had the guts to do before! There are several moments that are distinctly highlighted in memory from later in the season, but I’ll guess I’ll wait to talk about them!

Q) You are a part of social media. Are you enjoying the instant fan feedback you have begun receiving when the episodes air?

A) It’s bizarre, fantastic and stressful all at once! You never know how the viewers will respond and while it’s extremely interesting and fun, I find that I have to prepare for any harsh feedback being a rather sensitive person.

Q) What do you think it is about “Below Deck” that has made it a fan favorite show?

A) “Below Deck” gives viewers an insight into the lives of some very diverse and hardworking individuals that a large audience can relate to. On top of this, viewers get a peek into the wonderful world of yachting; glamorous and unfamiliar to most. It’s exciting and different.
