Fear The Walking Dead – We All Fall Down

With last episode having us wondering who the group would encounter next, this past week’s episode introduced us to some new characters and the true morale of those living in the aftermath. So, without further ado, let’s get to it!

“Hurry we’re gonna be in trouble.”

We start off the episode on the beach, where two children are seen going down to play. Unfortunately, there is an infected corpse washed up on the shore. The children continue to play together, unaware of the danger that is coming towards them. Another infected corpse has joined the first one, ambling towards the children. The audience is left to think that the children will be caught by the infected, but they are not.

As the scene is expanded, we see that the children are behind a fence and the infected are pushing up against that fence. They cannot get to their targets as the children decide to head away from the beach.

“We got a problem.”

Madison (Kim Dickens) questions her son Nick (Frank Dillane) as to why he took his chances going out into the water. But it doesn’t matter, as Nick got hold of the Yacht Log from the sinking ship in the prior episode and brought it back to The Abigail for the group to examine. The Yacht Log proves to be valuable, but hold a sad reality: their intended destination of San Diego is not an option as it was burned to the ground.

As Madison, Nick, Travis (Cliff Curtis), Strand (Colman Domingo), Daniel (Ruben Blades) and Ofelia (Mercedes Mason) discuss this issue, the question now becomes where the group can go next. Strand still wonders who sank the boat, reminding the group that they need to be weary of strangers and avoid contact, deliberately pointing out Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Cary) and her radioing with a complete stranger as an example.

“Someone’s home.”

Later on that night, Madison sees a light flicker on and off twice in the distance. She instructs Strand to head towards the light and dock the boat so that the group could possibly get supplies. Upon docking, everyone but Strand, Ofelia and Daniel head onto land towards the house there. Travis stands in front of the house, asking that whomever turned on the lights come out and the door opens. The little boy from the beginning of the episode comes running out first, then his father.

As Travis introduces himself and explains that they are docked, we meet the Geary Family: George (David Warshofsky), Melissa (Catherine Dent), daughter Willa (Aria Lyric Leabu) and Harry (Jeremiah & Maverick Clayton).

“You got nothing but time, man.”

With some persuasion, George and his family invite Madison, Travis, Alicia, Nick and Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) into their home. As Travis admires George’s book collection, George gives a book to him, as with the state of affairs time is all they have now. Meanwhile, Madison and Melissa share stories of their former lives, something that both women have in common. George and Melissa’s oldest son, Seth, (Jake Austin Walker) comes in after doing his rounds and is introduced.

And in the living room, the children convene where Nick has captured the attention of Willa and Harry by simply playing with them. Chris and Alicia watch while Nick has fun. Willa starts to sing “Ring Around the Rosie,” but wonders what the song is about. Alicia explains how it was about a plague that killed many people, very much like the epidemic now.

Later, Harry takes Nick up to his room, showing off his collection of action figures. Eerily enough, the action figures all have a red dot on their forehead, indicating that they too were infected and that it was the only way to avoid them coming back. Nick is a little taken back at Harry.

“I’m starting to understand this world better.”

On the boat, Ofelia and Daniel discuss the possibility of going up to the house. Daniel refuses to do so, while Ofelia is not so sure. With the state of affairs and the loss of Griselda (Patricia Reyes Spindola), they’re not sure what the next step will be. Daniel is obviously leery of Strand and his motives, while his daughter Ofelia is ready to accept the world as it is.

On land, Travis and George also discuss the current situation. With every major city napalmed and over half the country unavailable (according to George finding out this information), George believes that what is happening is a way of nature running its course and “pulling weeds,” so to speak.

“What are we doing?”

The next morning, Chris watches Seth head down to the fences. Seth invites him to come along and help out with chores (the infected corpses at the fence need to be killed). Chris takes to this task rather well, using his pent-up anger over the death of his mother to help clear the fences. As Travis sees Chris and tries to encourage him to come back to the boat, Chris is reluctant to do so until he has finished the job.

“I’m not giving up. I’m mending the fence.”

When Travis goes to George to discuss his son, George has him accompany him with equipment to help keep the fences together. In the distance, infected corpses roam the remaining part of the land, but George is adamant in the knowledge that if he can keep their fences up and reinforced, that they will be fine.

Meanwhile, Nick goes into the Geary house in search of medication to keep him from dealing with severe withdrawal symptoms from his drug use. The medicine cabinets hold nothing, but a mini-globe in George’s office holds pills that Nick looks at with trepidation. Holding the now open mini-globe, Willa catches him in the office and pulls him out to draw with her.

“You hover over me like the spectre of death.”

Daniel has taken to hovering over Strand like a shadow, a nagging feeling that Strand is up to no good becoming stronger and stronger. Later, Daniel manages to raid Strand’s belongings, finding a map for Mexico and a weapon. We then see Strand on the phone to an unknown person, confirming that everything is going according to plan. It is obvious now that Strand has an ulterior motive and that motive does not include California.

“Was that an accident?”

Later, Madison corners Melissa and asks her if she meant to signal. Melissa says that she did because she needs someone to take Willa and Harry away from their home, fearful that they will be harmed if they stay. George and Seth are set in their ways, refusing to leave, while Melissa is dying.

As Madison discusses the issue with Travis, Nick comes to share what he found in the mini-globe: poisonous pills. He believes that the father will go Jonestown on his family. So, the plan is then set: Melissa gets ready to hand over Willa and Harry to Madison and Travis when George walks in, upset at Melissa wanting to get the children off the land.

Harry runs down the stairs at that moment, saying that something is wrong with Willa. As they all head upstairs, the truth comes out: Willa took the pills that Nick discovered and now lies on the floor, dead. Melissa goes to pick her up and she reanimates, biting Melissa. George watches on in horror and gives Madison and Travis permission to take Harry away.

Unfortunately, only moments after they get on the boat, Seth enters with his rifle in hand and forces the group to give him his brother back. When Harry and Seth exit the boat, Melissa, now reanimated herself, comes after them.

In the final scene, the group watches from the boat as Seth tells Harry to turn around so he can shoot his mother in the head.
