Grey’s Anatomy – I Am Not Waiting Anymore

We pick up with this episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” right where we left off…April walks in Arizona’s lab to find out she has just spilled the baby beans to Jackson. The former couple immediately begin to argue over the fact April (Sarah Drew) had kept this a secret for so long. Jackson (Jesse Williams) goes as far as to ask April if she knew about the baby before their divorce. Conveniently, April gets paged to the ER and has to bail. She does confess to knowing about the baby before they signed the divorce papers and Jackson doesn’t want April to leave mid-argument, but duty calls…

DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) and Webber (James Pickens, Jr.) stand in a hallway waiting for their respective date – Maggie. The awkwardness is insane! Luckily, the tension is broken when Maggie (Kelly McCreary) texts DeLuca to say she has been delayed by surgery. She suggests the guys go out to eat without her, but that’s too much for our fellas and they head out separately.

Outside the hospital, Maggie finds Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) mid conversation with Thorpe (Scott Elrod). We last left them with Thorpe asking Meredith out and we were waiting with baited breath to find out her reply. Thankfully, Meredith agrees to drinks just before Maggie interjects. Finally getting to meet the infamous Thorpe has Maggie in a tailspin, smiling and stumbling as she is impressed by his good looks.

Back inside the hospital, Hunt  (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) are walking the halls having casual conversation about him getting a dog and abandoning his trailer for a “grownup house.” Owen shares that it is his birthday next week and would love to celebrate it with her. The two agree to have “birthday lobster” to celebrate.

Karev (Justin Chambers) is with a patient talking about a triple transplant. The girl wants to go to prom and Karev tells her that her best shot at having a dance with the guy of her dreams involves her undertaking this intense surgery. With a little convincing, it’s time to make her dreams come true. Heading into the transplant surgery, Karev, Meredith and Maggie talk about Meredith making her first date plans. Karev is convinced Meredith is going to bail, but Maggie has hope she’ll go through with it.

April confronts Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) about her meddling and things get intense. April says this time she is different because she is choosing to have faith in a good outcome for the baby “until God, himself, tells me otherwise.” She is taking things one day at a time and from now on she’d like Arizona to disappear from her life forever.

Maggie and DeLuca meet up to talk about their failed dinner plans. She invites him to scrub in, but he doesn’t want preferential treatment for being her boyfriend. Maggie says she can fit everyone in, but DeLuca disappears before she can meddle.

Meredith is doing jumping jacks in a bathroom in order to wake herself up in time for the triple organ transplant. She tells Callie (Sara Ramirez)  that she is having drinks with Thorpe and is worried it is going to be too weird. Callie tells her that getting out there will be good.

Down in the ER, April works on a patient suffering severe injuries from a fall. Her fiancée is with her, holding tight to her hand and swearing his love. The patient’s parents arrive and they are pissed at that he continues to take their daughter mountain climbing.

The organ transplant begins and Maggie is nudging Meredith about her date. Karev is curious why Meredith hasn’t cancelled yet and says if she plans to ditch Thorpe she’d better do it soon. Meredith wants them to cut out their bickering and Maggie says there is time for Meredith to nap and head out. Maggie forces Meredith out though and explains to Karev that this is something she needs. She thinks Karev is going to make her change her mind if he continues to bring up her bailing. Meredith heads to bathroom to shave her legs where she runs into Amelia. With a quick assist, Meredith is able to snag a proper shirt and shoes for her Thorpe date.

Arizona finds Callie getting ready to scrub in and confesses to spilling the baby news to Jackson. She feels like she was being a good friend to April and Jackson by sharing. Callie tells her that she didn’t do the right thing, no matter how hard she is trying to convince herself. Arizona wants to know if Callie were in her shoes, what she would have done and Callie point-blank says Arizona screwed this one up royally.

Looking on as the victim of the fall gets operated on, Cross (Joe Adler) teases DeLuca about his preferential treatment. Down below, April, Owen and Riggs (Martin Henderson) operate only to have the patient become brain dead. Outside the OR, Jackson confronts April again. He tells her she has taken more than enough time to herself and they have it out in front of fellow staff. April says she knew that him finding out about the baby would factor into him signing the divorce papers, but she didn’t want him to stay just for the baby. Webber interrupts them to tell them to take it private and Jackson painfully tells her that she gets what she wanted and is now on her own.

Meredith dresses for her date only for us to see her reemerge in the OR with Karev and crew. She explains that that she wants to help, but Maggie is pushing for her to go on the date. An angry Meredith orders Jo (Camilla Luddington) to grab her phone and text him their date is off and tells Maggie it is time to let it go.

Hiding in an ER room, April is in tears. Hunt wants to know why she didn’t tell him the news and she explains she wanted to keep it to herself so no one would think she was screwing things up. They hug and Hunt tells her how happy he is for her. She finally has an ally in her corner, which causes her to weep with joy.

Arizona finds Bailey (Chandra Wilson) to talk to her about the April issue. Bailey knows what went on and as her boss she lets Arizona know that this was a fireable offense. As a friend, Bailey can see where Arizona thought she was doing the right thing, but she says that it still doesn’t make it right.

Webber takes Jackson aside to talk to him about his blowup. Jackson wants Webber to know that he’s not his father so he has no room for advising him. Webber explains the only thing that matters between Avery and April is that she is having a baby and he needs to step up.

Hunt meets with the falling patient’s parents and explains that their daughter is brain-dead. The mother thinks that they can keep their daughter in supervised care until she is well enough to leave the hospital herself. Hunt says the other option is to let their daughter go, but they want the doctors to do what they can to keep her alive. Tess’ (the patient) fiancée disagrees on their decision, insisting that she said multiple times that she wouldn’t want to live that way. As they bicker, we fade in on April’s face.

Maggie finishes up her part of the transplant and offers to stick around. Meredith begins and Karev wants to know what is wrong with him. Karev says he understands that the first time you go on a date after losing someone it feels like you are cheating on them. He assures her that the first person you date after losing someone will eventually move on to someone else so it’s just better to get the weirdness out of the way and get back out there.

Hunt picks a fight with Riggs in the hallway over the fact he told Tess’ parents not to give up hope. Hunt feels Riggs is being a hypocrite after what happened with his sister, but Riggs explains he stuck around after she disappeared to keep the searching going. It was Owen that left and came to a new hospital where no one even knows he had a sister. Riggs explains if he is looking to hate someone he should look in the mirror.

Arizona is chatting with Amelia, not knowing how to fix things. Arizona thinks she could apologize again, but Amelia says the only thing to fix it is to accept what she did was wrong and give it time.

Maggie is finally ready for her date with DeLuca, but he says he has early rounds and would rather stay. He says he has some studying to do and she offers to help, but he refuses. He explains that he doesn’t want special treatment and he doesn’t want to have to make awkward small talk with Webber. She reminds him that he is the one who wanted to go public. He understands, but he still wants to take time to himself.

Meredith finds Thorpe waiting for her. He says he was glad she called him back, but she explains she is too tired to do drinks. He offers to drive her home and that he’ll take her out another time.

Amelia arrives at Hunt’s home, lobsters in hand. She finds him drunk and suggests trying this a different time.

Jackson shows up to April’s home. He apologizes and says that the baby doesn’t deserve them arguing over it. He knows they can figure this out. April explains she waited to tell him because the last time tore them apart and she didn’t want that for them this time. She apologizes too, but Jackson says it is clear that April just wanted to wait until it was too late to do something about the baby if it was in fact sick again. He thinks her waiting would just be torture if they had to hold the baby and let it go once more. April explains that his opinion doesn’t matter because right now it is her body so that makes it her baby. No longer being married, he has no rights.

In Thorpe’s car, Meredith is eating fries and having pleasant conversation. They talk surgery and it seems Meredith has her stride back…
