Surgeons are often evaluated on speed & efficiency, but that doesn’t always mean faster is always better. -Meredith

Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) are getting the kids ready for the day. Maggie is telling Meredith about her bed being empty and spells out S-E-X so the kids can’t understand. Unfortunately, Sam is a smarty and wants to know why she isn’t having any S-E-X- anymore. Meredith explains it is because Maggie is a B-O-S-S and warns Zola never to date a man who can’t handle her P-O-W-E-R.

At the hospital, Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) is worried as “Guitar Hero” Kyle (Wilmer Valderrama) is in town and wants to take her on a real date. She’s too nervous though for reality as their sexting life has been so heated that real life can’t live up to it. Unfortunately, a text from Meredith comes in mid-sext and Edwards accidentally sends her titillating text to her boss instead of her boyfriend. Oops! Cut to Edwards on damage control and Meredith is doing her best to dodge it. Meanwhile, Sheila is their latest patient who is there to have a tumor removed. Sheila is super excited because her online boyfriend heard she was having surgery and finally decided to meet her. When a guy who looks nothing like the photo Sheila has shows up, we find out she has actually been Catfished!

In the ER, two women arrive stating that one of their young sons has been shot and they are trying to find him. It seems that they aren’t in the system yet, but Karev (Justin Chambers) interrupts just in time noting the announcement of a gunshot victim. The doctors all head outside as an ambulance approaches. The two women join them, waiting to see which of their sons is inside. It turns out that at a playdate a babysitter turned her back for a minute and the boys took the gun out of the locked cabinet the mother had it in.

Maggie finds Meredith and lets her know that her kids are okay. She is clearly shaken at the thought of anything happening to her niece and nephews. Maggie has never had a sibling until she learned about Meredith so worrying about the kids is a new feeling for her.

Warren (Jason George) and Avery (Jesse Williams) go for a run and talk about Warren’s current predicament. Warren knows he can’t perform surgery; which Avery thinks is a rough punishment because he’s been a doctor a lot longer than many of them. This gives Warren the bright idea that if he can’t cut he can still put patients to sleep. That means, it’s time for him to look into working in anesthesia!

Meredith is explaining to Sheila’s Catfish that she understands how he feels, but he was dishonest in how he went about handling it. She lets it slip that Sheila’s surgery isn’t life threatening, which sends him into a rage. He runs into her room yelling and the two get into a fight over who was more dishonest.

Meanwhile, Callie (Sara Ramirez) meets with Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) to talk about Sofia’s schooling in New York. Arizona finally confesses to being unhappy about her move and doesn’t want their daughter moving across the country. Callie then meets with Bailey (Chandra Wilson) to let her know about her move. Bailey isn’t keen on this as she thinks Callie is simply moving to follow tail.

Operating on the gunshot victim, Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) is concerned about a mother who would keep a gun in the house. Jo (Camilla Luddington) argues that she has one for protection, but says she has never had to use it. During the operation, the boy’s heart gives out and Amelia must decide if they can use the paddles to revive him. She has just spent so much time trying to repair his spine and she worries the slightest jolt will undo all her hard work and leave her patient paralyzed. Unfortunately, Amelia is put in the position to decide on saving his life and she makes the call. She must now tell his parents that their son will live, but it is highly unlikely he will ever walk again. In the room, the boy’s friend is upset. They were playing with the gun when it just went off and now his friend will never be able to play again. Amelia takes a moment to speak with the boy and give him a great peptalk. She tells him that every time he starts feeling badly or someone tries to put them blame on him, he should repeat, “This was not my fault.”

Edwards meets up with Kyle and the two head over to his music studio. She knows this is how he wins his women over, but is still impressed with his moves. He is quick to win her over and the two share a romantic kiss.

Maggie is still so surprised at how this kid with a gunshot has rocked her to the core. Meredith has already been through a lot in her life so she understands how conflicted Maggie is feeling. She also explains this is how it feels to be a family. Maggie, now you know what true love feels like.

Warren tells Bailey about his anesthesia idea. She is not pleased because he is side stepping his punishment. He lets it be known that she is the Chief of Surgery and not in charge of this other area of the hospital. Therefore, he has plans to go around her and get what he wants. Bailey isn’t messing around though and tells him that if he chooses to side step her, he’ll be sleeping on the couch for the foreseeable future.

Arizona is walking the halls of the hospital when she gets a phone call on her cell phone. She must hear something of interest as she lets them know she has plenty of time to talk. We see her meet up with Callie who is apologizing for moving so quickly with her plans to move and not discussing it all first. Arizona isn’t interested in Callie’s explanation any longer as it seems a school called back about Sofia being a student. Clearly, Callie is moving too fast for her own good and Arizona makes it known she has hired an attorney to put a stop to it all.

“Once we fire that first shot, we’re committed. There is almost no way to take it back.” – Meredith
