The episode begins with Annalise (Viola Davis) being arrested for Wes’ (Alfred Enoch) murder. She tasks Bonnie (Liza Weil) with defending her. Bonnie speaks with her client and says, “Wes died before the fire. The M.E. told me.” Phew! That means he didn’t suffer. Annalise snips back, “It doesn’t matter who did it. The only person locked up is me.”

Laurel (Karla Souza) is still in the hospital recovering. She is traumatized by the loss of Wes. We see a flashback to the two lovers in a bathtub talking about how their condom broke. Laurel remarks the company is at fault and Wes jokes that it is his fault for being “too big.” TMI.

Connor (Jack Falahee) and Asher (Matt McGorry) are hanging at Michaela’s (Aja Naomi King) place. Asher tells her that her mother left, which is something Michaela cares less about. Michaela is more concerned over the loss of Wes. Connor, still in a sour mood, remarks, “Did you really call Wait List your friend? Because I kind of recall you hating him before he became BBQ.” Ouch. A still salty Connor is going off on his pals remarking, “He did kill someone, after all. So, maybe this is karma.”

Back in prison, Annalise is getting used to life behind bars. She isn’t yet ready to pee in public…that is until she can’t hold it any longer. We see Bonnie meeting with Frank (Charlie Weber) to discuss her nerves over defending Annalise. Frank tells her, “What would Sam say right now? You’re as good as Annalise.” At least someone is being comforting.

At the hospital, Meggy (Corbin Reid) is treating Laurel, who is still out of it with grief. We watch a flashback as Michaela runs into Wes who is shopping for jewelry. She advises him not to pick out something cheap since Laurel comes from a wealthy family. Wes explains, “We’re happy. I just don’t want to ruin that.” Thankfully, Michaela is able to guide him into a tasteful and yet not too expensive of a gift.

Connor heads over to Oliver’s to clear the air. Not such a bright idea in Connor’s current mood, but as the audience we can’t stop him. Connor discovers that Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) was tasked with cleaning Annalise’s cell phone from the night of the murder. Connor confesses that during the time of the murder he slept with Oliver’s former suiter Thomas. Oliver, surprisingly, is understanding and tells him, “You just slept with him to hurt me.” While that’s true, Connor feels he is so damaged that he explains, “Yeah and I’m going to continue to hurt you. It’s what I do.” When Connor leaves, we watch as Oliver finally removes files from the phone, but does he delete them or does he just add them to his laptop for later exploration?

Annalise finally goes before a judge with Bonnie defending her. They are ready to rule against bail, but Bonnie thinks they can force the prosecutor to reveal their hidden witness. When the prosecutor finally shares the information, it doesn’t help Annalise’s case. So, the judge rules against bail.

Frank finally visits Laurel in the hospital. Because she is racked with grief she lashes out at him saying, “It should have been you. I loved him so much more than I ever loved you.” Ow. We watch a flashback as Frank picks up Wes and the two go for a drive. It seems Frank was the last person to see him alive.

At the courthouse, one of the prosecutors announce that Wes officially died from smoke inhalation. That means he actually was alive when the house was set on fire, contrary to what the M.E. had originally them. Nate  (Billy Brown) is mad and heads back to speak to the M.E. She tries to explain to him that her initial findings showed he was dead before the fire, but after a full review he died in the fire.

The end of the episode shows Frank sitting in a room at the police station. He says he wants to make a statement about the murder of Wes Gibbins. When the detectives ask him what it is about, Frank responds, “I did it.”
