iZombie – Dirt Nap Time

Picking up right where we left off last week, Major (Robert Buckley) admits to Liv (Rose McIver), Ravi (Rahul Kohli) and Peyton (Aly Michalka) that he gave the cure to Natalie. Liv is surprisingly not mad, instead choosing to blame Blaine for lying about his memory loss. She also is sure that he’s the thief, but Ravi reminds her that Don E knew about the cure as well. Liv ignores this fact, promising to beat the confession out of him. Peyton suggests that Liv can find him at his singing gig that night.

Cut to that singing gig and Blaine’s (David Anders) singing isn’t well received. He exits the club to find a full-on zombie Liv, who immediately punches him in the face (something that’s been deserved since the pilot). Ravi is there, probably to make sure Liv doesn’t do anything she regrets. After choking Blaine for a bit, Liv comes out off full-on zombie mode, but still isn’t relenting on getting a confession. Blaine insists on his innocence and can’t give them any information on Don E.

Preschool teacher Jamie Brennan (Ryan McDonell) is accused by his girlfriend Piper (Shenae Grimes-Beech) of having an affair with Macy (Haley Strode) or Eleanor (Jovanna Burke), moms of his students. The principal, Mrs Zelinsky (Camille Mitchell), overhears and calls him into her office.

Next thing you know, we’re at his crime scene with Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) when Liv and Ravi arrive. Clive is shocked to see that Liv isn’t cured, but she doesn’t want to discuss it now. Focusing on the body, we learn that Jamie was killed by a bunch of nails in his head. No forced entry, the sheets were stolen from his bed and the construction site across the street is missing a nail gun. Clive suspects a crime of passion. They also find refrigerator magnets spelling out “STD 36,” but no one has any idea what it means. So, that’s where Liv comes in.

Back at the morgue, she makes a PB&J plus brain sandwich roll. Then, she and Clive visit the school, where they talk to Mrs. Zelinsky. She tells them that Jamie was a womanizer and often had affairs with the mothers in his class. She gives them the names of the three women he was seeing this year.

Piper is the first to come in to the station. She tells them about finding panties under Jamie’s bed and how she assumed they were Macy’s, but they could be Eleanor’s. Both of these women are married with kids. Piper also claims that she was home all night with her son who had a stomach bug, but there’s no adult who can corroborate. Piper was falling in love with Jamie and was hoping her single mom days were coming to an end. She told Macy this and is mad she seemingly screwed him anyways.

Blaine is pouting over losing Peyton so Candy (Carrie Anne Fleming) tries to cheer him up. It doesn’t really work, but Blaine at least gets to work packaging up brains for his customers.

Peyton is also distracted, but she snaps back to it when she speaks with opposing counsel (Adam Kaufman) in the dominatrix case, who maintains that the case doesn’t add up. He thinks that since Weckler has a history of mental illness, he can get the confession tossed out. Peyton doesn’t think that will happen and offers that if Weckler coughs up the memory card, she can get his charges reduced. They set up a meeting with Weckler for the next day.

Major and Justin (Tongayi Chirisa) hang out at Baracus’ (Kurt Evans) place. They gossip a bit about a rumored zombie speakeasy (which we know is very real) and Major comes clean about being human again. Justin questions whether being a mercenary is a still a good choice, but Major has nowhere else to go. Justin promises to keep Major’s secret.

Clive and Liv interview Macy next who tells them she had been sleeping with Jamie for months when Piper told her she was in love with him. But that wasn’t enough for her to stop the affair. The sex was too good and Jamie actually listened to her. Macy’s alibi is her husband, Will, who is in the waiting room. Will (Boyd Ferguson) isn’t surprised to learn that they are persons of interest because they have an open relationship and he knew about her relationship with Jamie.

Peyton meets with Weckler (Gordon Woolvett) and his lawyer, but he still refuses to give up the memory card. When Harry Thorne (Serge Houde) enters Weckler fires his lawyer and hires Harry, who then tells Peyton that the memory card in question doesn’t exist and they will take the deal currently on the table (murder two and blackmail). Peyton is stunned, but there’s nothing she can do.

Clive and Liv interview Eleanor who thought she was the only one having an affair with Jamie and claims it’s not something she normally does. She, like Macy, tells them that Jamie actually listened to her. Her alibi, again like Macy, is that she was home alone with her husband Greg. Greg (Dustin Lloyd) confirms Eleanor’s alibi and bursts into tears when he finds out about Eleanor’s affair.

Major and a few of his mercenary buddies happen upon the zombie speakeasy. The group all eats the ghost pepper that is required for entry…a slight problem for Major. Before he has to eat the pepper, Don E (Bryce Hodgson) appears clearing him of having to handle the heat! The group enters The Scratching Post and is immediately charmed by the menu and the zombie hookers.

Later, Major fills Liv and Ravi in on Don E’s business venture, which Ravi can’t quite believe. Liv wants to go to the bar to get the stolen cures back, but Major and Ravi don’t think it’s a good idea while she’s still on preschool teacher brain (seeing the potential in everyone is cure, but not bad-ass). Major suggest she take Justin with her, seeing as he’s bad-ass, has already been there, and maybe asked Major if he could court her (yikes). Liv insists she’ll go alone and Ravi and Major start singing about teamwork, which triggers a vision. Liv sees Piper at Jamie’s door, begging him to let her in and apologizing for causing a scene. She relents on Justin joining her at the Scratching Post and leaves to find Clive.

Clive and Liv bring Piper in and inform her that a witness puts her a Jamie’s front door the night of the murder. She tells them that she dropped by to end things and he already had someone else there, someone who drove a black Civic. She’s 99% sure that it was Eleanor. When Piper takes a call, Liv tells Clive that Piper is lying: she wanted to continue the relationship, not end it. Clive theorizes that Piper’s pride was hurt and she waited for Eleanor to leave before killing Jamie.

Peyton gets a visit from the lawyer who tells her that he is reporting Harry Thorne to the Office of Disciplinary Counsel and he hopes she will join him. This isn’t just because Thorne stole the case: Weckler hanged himself in jail that morning.

When Clive looks into the DMV registry, he finds that Eleanor drives a black Camry, not a Civic. This triggers a vision. Liv sees Macy telling Jamie that she’s worried that a black Civic is following them. The car drives off before Jamie can investigate. Liv does get some the license plate: STD 36. Clive finds it belongs to Coleman Baker Private Investigations.

At The Scratching Post, Liv is surprised to see Tanner (Nathan Barrett). He tells her and Justin that Don E is on his way. They bond while they wait and I can’t say I hate this pairing. Don’t get me wrong – I still love Liv and Major, but Justin is a great guy! I’d date him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Don E finally arrives and denies having stolen the cure.

Later, Blaine finds Don E and co in the funeral home to inform him that all of his clients have jumped ship to The Scratching Post. Don E offers to buy up the rest of Blaine’s brains and Blaine can’t do much to stop them. Dino (Ryan Jefferson Booth) also delivers a message from Blaine’s father, shooting him in the gut. Blaine pleads with him, offering him money.

Liv and Clive meet with Coleman Baker (Roger Cross) at his office. He can’t tell them anything, but he can let them see the numerous surveillance pictures of Macy on the wall.

Liv and Clive bring Macy in again, accusing her of not having an open relationship with her husband, to the point where he hired a private investigator to tail her. Coleman was following her the night of the murder and called Will to tell him where she was. Will then stakes out Jamie’s house. When he finally works up the courage to ring the bell, he kills Jamie. Clive tells Macy that she became an accomplice when she helped Will cover up the crime. She comes clean and confesses to seeing the murder happen.

Peyton visits Ravi at the morgue, and asks him if he’s done the autopsy on Weckler. He tells her it’s a pretty standard hanging. It’s possible there was foul play, but there would be no way to know for sure. Well, there’s one way: Liv. Since it’s not a time sensitive issue, Ravi decides to soak Weckler’s brain in the blue juice for ten days so that Liv’s visions can be stronger.

Major and Justin enjoy some drinks together outside of Baracus’ house while Major grills Justin about how it went with Liv. Justin thought it went well since he really opened up to her, but when he took her home she bolted for the door. Major passes along a note from Liv. It’s a grade school “Do you like me? Check yes or no” note, but it’s a cute callback to a conversation they had. Justin checks “yes” and asks Major to return it to Liv. Justin gets a call telling him that the tracker they planted in Harley John’s truck shows him heading towards Major and Justin. Justin goes to cover Baracus and Major throws down a spike strip. When Harley (Andrew Caldwell) and his brother Bo (James Pizzinato) hit the spike strip and blow their front tires, Major arrives, asking them where they are going. When they try to escape, they run over Justin who easily gets up, seemingly unharmed. Justin, in full-on zombie mode, runs after them, but they manage to shake him and drive off. Later, they review dashcam footage of Justin: the proof they needed that zombies do exist.
