Jake Short – Mighty Med

Q) Please tell us the premise for “Mighty Med” and about your character.

A) “Mighty Med” is about two kids who are comic book and superhero fanatics and they have stumbled upon a hospital for superheroes. It’s a dream come true for them because all they have wanted all their lives is to know about superheroes, learn about them, read about them and play videogames with them. They get hired as doctors there and my character, Oliver, is a quirky fun guy who is always trying to stay out of trouble. I think Oliver sometimes is kind of a secondary conscience for Kaz (Bradley Steven Perry) because he’ll try to stay out of trouble and say we shouldn’t do something. It is hard sometimes to find a medium between being a best friend and not be motherly. Yet, Oliver is a nice guy who is trying to help his buddy out at the hospital and wants to help out his friend. He’s a good guy.

Q) What made you want to be a part of the show?

A) We have the same Executive Producer on this show as I did on “A.N.T. Farm,” which is really cool. He has really helped me out with this role a lot. I think what made me take the role was just the premise of  the show. I liked the character. I didn’t actually know Bradley before. When we were casting the role, they sort of said, “Hey, we need you guys to be best friends.” We went, “Alright, this should be fun!” We each tried to figure each other out and become “best friends.” It was tough, but I think we did a decent job.

Q) Was there anything about your role that you added that wasn’t originally scripted for you?

A) They write jokes in the show and they have lots of callbacks for my character because he often does this thing where he doesn’t know what things are called. I think I sold that joke for them. So, they continue to write it in the show and I enjoy doing it. Sometimes Oliver has little “brain farts” and I enjoy doing those scenes. I think a lot of people don’t get the opportunity to do that.

Q) On a show like this, there are a lot of comedic elements. Has comedic timing come natural to you or have you had to develop it?

A) It hasn’t necessarily come naturally. When I started out, I wanted to do drama, but then I got into the comedy game and I really wanted to continue doing that. I really enjoyed it. When I went into the audition, I didn’t know how it was going to go, but I embraced comedy since I started doing “A.N.T. Farm” and I love it.

Q) You are a part of social media sites. Are you looking for to the instant feedback you’ll be receiving?

A) I am! I am really looking forward to it and, so far, the fans have been great. They have been really supportive of the show and when they see me in person they recognize me as a new character. It’s really fun and I am looking forward to their response.

Q) Are there any special guest stars we’ll be getting to see on “Mighty Med?”

A) Yes! I believe Patton Oswalt just aired on our show. He was hilarious and he was one of my favorites! I didn’t get to do any scenes with him, but I watched him and it was fantastic!

Q) What do you think it is about the show that will really draw viewers in?

A) My favorite thing about the show is the special effects. I think people like that. Not only that, but I think there is also a family aspect and friend aspect that people can relate to and enjoy.

Q) What else would you like to share with fans?

A) There are a lot more fun and special effects coming up so stay tuned! And to the fans, thanks so much for watching the show and supporting me. It’s awesome! Thank you for coming on this journey with me.
