The episode starts out with a classic Jane (Gina Rodriguez) flashback: Jane has always had strong opinions and when she was ten years old, she begged Alba for permission to go to Disney World with her friends. So, when Jane is unsure, it is a pretty big deal.

Now, Jane and Rafael (Justin Baldoni) are discussing Jane’s theory about “Petra” (Yael Grobglas), which they don’t know is dead on. Rafael doesn’t believe it because he’s afraid being wrong will make things worse. The next day, they consult Michael (Brett Dier). He believes that before they do anything, they need more evidence. Michael also gives Rafael a teddy bear, which the narrator promises will return later. When Michael mentions that he is trying to get back in shape, Rafael invites Michael to work out with him at The Marbella gym. Jane gets excited that her husband and baby daddy have a date.

While Xiomara (Andrea Navedo), Alba (Ivonne Coll) and Jane are getting the house ready for Xo’s last dance lesson, Jane asks Alba to show her the letters from Cecilia. Alba says yes as long as Jane doesn’t ask any questions. Xo points out that Alba always gives in to Jane, like with the Disney World trip, when Alba relented to Jane’s constant begging.

Later, Rafael gives “Petra” control of his shares and leaves the bear in her apartment. It turns out that the bear is a nanny cam, allowing Rafael to spy on “Petra.” Rafael texts Jane to thank Michael, which Jane takes as an opportunity to officially set up their man-date and tease Michael about it. That night, Jane reads Alba’s letters and creates a family tree. She is fascinated about all the people she didn’t know existed and wants to learn about them.

Rafael watches the nanny cam and remembers how different “Petra” has been throughout the past few months. He is clearly starting to believe Jane’s story. Soon, Rogelio (Jaime Camil) arrives for the meeting with the field producer Raf knows. Unfortunately, the meeting doesn’t go well. Rogelio made some insensitive comments because he thought he was meeting with someone else with the same name. Rafael promises to try to fix it and get Rogelio an audition.

After Xo’s last dance class, she asks Alba what she thinks about real estate as a possible career. Alba doesn’t think it will fit, but they don’t discuss it anymore because Alba gets a phone call from her sister! Apparently, Jane donated to a GoFundMe run by Cecilia’s granddaughter and somehow Cecilia found out. Alba is mad at Jane because she hasn’t spoken to Cecilia in forty-two years. Jane is afraid that she has really screwed up.

At work, Jane tries to approach Alba but is denied. She talks to Xo, who is at The Marbella printing out programs for her last recital. She promises to talk to Alba, but can’t guarantee anything. Jane comments that Xo is going all out for her last recital. Xo replies that it’s her last one and she wants it to be special. She floats beauty school as an idea by Jane, who jokes that she only says that because Grease was on TV.

Rafael and Michael’s man-date is horribly awkward. Rafael is ripped and Michael is clearly intimidated, trying and failing to make conversation. On the way out, Michael sees Rafael flirting with a married woman and talking about meeting her later. He complains to Jane that they don’t get along because Raf is such a player.

Xo talks to Alba about making up with Jane, but Alba refuses. As the go-between, Xo goes back to Jane and tells her that Alba will cool down in a few days.

Rogelio gathers the family to tell them that Rafael got him an audition for the movie the producer is working on, but he must do a nude scene if he gets the role. Jane is uncomfortable yet encourages Rogelio to take the role anyways.

Rafael watches more nanny cam footage and sees “Petra” speaking on the phone. She promises to kill someone and Rafael immediately jumps into action. Anezka goes into Petra’s room and promises her that she won’t kill her and is about to administer another dose of the paralytic when Rafael barges in and accuses her of being Anezka. Because Anezka didn’t give her the paralytic, Rafael sees Petra move and calls in the nurse. An hour later, Petra can speak, but tells Rafael that she is Anezka. The real Anezka throws Rafael out, but the real Petra grabs her by the throat and threatens her. She only protected Anezka because otherwise the hotel shares would be void and tells her she must break up with Scott (Wes Armstrong).

Rafael tells Jane that they were wrong about Petra and accuses Jane and Michael of being judgy. He tells Jane that the woman wasn’t married and he was kissing up to her to get Rogelio the audition.

Jane receives a message from Cecilia’s granddaughter, Catalina, and responds despite the fact that Alba wouldn’t want her to. They share information about their lives and it turns out that Catalina lives in New York, but is visiting her grandmother in Venezuela. Later, Jane runs into Alba at The Marbella and apologizes for getting involved with the family. She tells her about Catalina and Alba reiterates that she doesn’t want Jane to be in communication with the family. “Cecilia ruined my relationship with my family. My mother died not speaking to me,” Alba says that Jane always thinks she’s right, but not about this. Unfortunately, Alba loses the cash pouch from the gift shop she was supposed to deposit at the bank and tells the manager to take it out of her paycheck. Jane decides to find it and make things right.

Petra is back to blonde and running things – she reiterates that Anezka needs to break up with Scott. Cut to Scott crying, but the breakup hasn’t happened yet. He confesses to Jane that he can feel it coming and she consoles him before asking for a favor (that isn’t revealed just yet).

Rogelio, having overheard Michael talking on the phone to Jane about the Rafael situation, takes it upon himself to make Michael and Rafael friends again. However, it doesn’t work and they argue. But before things can get worse, Rogelio gets a call from his agent and learns that the audition is today and not tomorrow. He makes a U-turn to drive to the audition, but his car gets a flat tire. Rafael helps change the tire on and Michael calls him an Uber. When Rogelio gets grease all over his shirt, Rafael offers him his shirt treating the viewers (and an annoyed Michael) to some eye candy.

Before Anezka can break up with him, Scott proposes. Petra says that Anezka can’t marry him, but Anezka says that this is the first time she has been happy. Petra feels for her, but ultimately decides she must break up with him herself.

Rafael and Michael argue again while changing the tire and Michael expresses his true problem: that Rafael moved on Jane while she and Michael were still engaged. The conversation isn’t continued because Mateo, who was sitting on the sidewalk, has disappeared. They both jump into action to find him. Luckily, they locate him nearby. Rafael apologizes for not thinking about Michael and Jane’s engagement and Michael apologizes for being insecure. Raf admits that his cancer makes him want to control his health and Michael admits he’s been a jerk. They finally find something to bond over – soccer. However, something else is evident in this scene: how much they both love Mateo. That will always be something they share, no matter what.

Jane finds the money pouch in the Marbella’s kitchen, but it didn’t solve things with Alba. While they prepare for the recital, Xo thinks Jane need’s Alba’s approval. Back to the Disney World story, it is revealed that Xo had already given Jane permission, but Jane needed Alba’s to actually go. Xo says that Jane and Alba might just have to deal with the fact that they aren’t on the same side this time and Jane suggests she be a family counselor.

The real Petra attempts to break up with Scott, but he found a buyer for the hotel so she doesn’t.

Raf and Michael meet Rogelio after the audition and Michael sees a movie poster that gives him an idea about Mutter. He converts the words from The Bible into numbers, using the book and verse of The Bible they were found in and comes up with a string of 12 numbers: a bank account where they theorize Mutter hid her money. Rogelio gets a call from his agent, who tells him that he got the role.

At Xo’s dance recital, Jane and Alba remind her of the first one she put on in the living room when Jane was young. Rogelio and Michael arrive with roses for Xo and Rogelio offers Xo some words of encouragement. At the end of the recital, the students invite Xo on stage and she realizes how much she loves teaching. In a dream sequence, Rogelio, Jane, and Alba sing a version of “Beauty School Dropout” in which they encourage Xo to open a dance school. After the recital, Xo unveils her plan to the family who are incredibly supportive.

After a successful meeting with the investor, Petra breaks up with Scott but feels bad about it.

Jane tells Alba she wants to be in touch with her relatives, even though Alba doesn’t like it. She tells Alba that she can’t always agree with her, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love and respect her.

When Michael and Jane get back home, they are surprised to see Catalina on the steps with a suitcase!

In a meeting with Telamasivo, Rogelio learns that his contract with them forbids nude scenes in any other projects. But the women who meet with him are willing to overlook that clause if he does something for them in exchange.

Petra agrees to keep Anezka around because she has bonded with the babies. However, to rule out any confusion, Petra makes Anezka get “not Petra” tattooed on her forehead. Petra tells Rafael she is not going to give up her shares in the hotel, but he is going to give up his shares. She also tells him that he was right about her and Anezka and she heard every single thing, including Rafael admitting he thought she was missing the “mom gene.” She’s done being nice because she’s mad that no one realized what was going on.
