Jessica Collins – The Nine

Q.  What are some of the recent projects that you’ve been working on?

A.  I feel like all of my time is being consumed with the show “The Nine.”  It’s not easy taping a one hour drama and we have pretty long days too.  That’s the caliber of work we’ve been making, that’s what I’m doing day in and day out.  That’s what I’m doing right now, putting all my efforts towards our show right now.

Q.  What can you tell us about your character from the show?

A.  I play Lizzie Miller, she’s a hospital social worker.  She’s involved in a relationship with Scott Wolf’s character, he plays Jeremy Kates.  She’s caring and compassionate, she has sort of a streak of simplicity that I like.  Beyond that, there is a complexity that is really fascinating to me.

Q.  What made you want to be a part of this show?

A.  I think initially it was the script. The diversity of the characters really spoke to me.  The concept, the idea that a moment or a situation can bring nine strangers together and connect them in a way that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.  That was just so fascinating to me.

Q.  Has anything been challenging for you about the role?

A.  Challenging in the best possible way.  I think as an actor we seek the challenges and I guess you deal with it from script to script.  Working through each moment and trying to figure out what it means.  No, I wouldn’t say challenging in a bad way, it’s challenging in the best possible way.

Q.  A lot of people have compared the show to the movie Inside Man, how do you feel?

A.  I think I take all of those as a compliment.  I think our show is a mix of all of these different genres.  We get comparisons to “Lost,” to Inside Man, to the best relationship movies that are out there right now.  Because it is, we have action and we have a mystery component.  We have this ongoing character drama, but I think that the comparisons to all of these things are correct.  I can see it, but it’s not everything about our show.

Q.  Do you have a memorable moment from your time filming so far?

A.  I think that the days that we shoot the bank scenes are pretty memorable because the cast all gets together because we’re all involved in those scenes.  We have such a good time, we’re always laughing.  On top of being on the floor, because most of the time we’ve been on the floor with guns pointed at our faces.  It can be pretty crazy those days, but those are the most memorable days, when we all get together.

Q.  Why should viewers be taking the time to check out the show?

A.  I think that there is something for everyone in our show.  I think that they’d find themselves in one, if not all, of the characters featured on our show.  The mystery is intriguing and the questions will be answered.  I think it’s a healing show, I really do.  It’s a truthful drama which you don’t see very often.  It’s a truthful portrayal of life and I appreciate that.  I think the audiences will too.

Q.  What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A.  Lots of things, I enjoy getting outside as much as I can.  I enjoy cooking, I enjoy reading, I enjoy getting back to Texas when I have time.  I enjoy exercising, all the things that sort of keep one grounded and balanced.

Q.  Do you have a latest obsession?  Are you into any particular book, sport, music group or activity?

A.  You know I’ve been hiking a lot for some reason.  I find myself just hiking whenever I can, just getting out and walking around.  It sounds ridiculous, but it’s really nice to be outside; it’s liberating.  So, I’ve been hiking a lot, that’s what I would say.

Q.  What would you like to say to fans and supporters of not only yourself, but the show as well?

A.  We love you!  Thank you; keep tuning in.
