Q) Besides the new “Liv and Maddie” season, what are some of the recent projects you have been working on?
A) Well, I have two movies coming out in the month of October: The Outfield starring Nash Grier, Cameron Dallas, and myself, and Mark and Russell’s Wild Ride, which is coming to Disney XD.  Both I am very proud of.  I lead Mark and Russell’s with Sean Giambrone from “The Goldbergs.”Sean and I have amazing chemistry.  This November is going to be a good month for me and anyone else that decides to watch those movies.
Q) The cast of “Liv and Maddie” have such amazing chemistry, did that come naturally or did it take time to develop?
A) With shows like this, they go through a lot of people for the roles and one of the steps to get the role is chemistry reads.  They will narrow it down to their top ten for each role and then mix and match them all up until they find some chemistry.  Sometimes it’s nonexistent and sometimes it’s electric.  I was the last one added to this family. I was an out of town hire so they flew me in to read with Ben [King], Kali [Rocha], Dove [Cameron] and Tenzing [Trainor] the day of the first table read.  Our chemistry was more than electric is was…uh…fantastic.  We just all clicked.  I remember thinking my scene with Ben was very solid.  Like we had read each others minds and knew the choices each one of us was gonna make.  It was magic from day one.
Q) Is there anything that you have added to your role of Joey that may not have originally been scripted for you?
A) Improv is a big part of my life.  I grew up doing standup and improv and “Liv and Maddie” is a great place to implement it.  I add a lot to my character – nothing too major, but I have been Joey Rooney for three seasons now so I know him really well.  I watch it and it feels obvious what’s a Joey choice.  All the singing “Doo do doo do” when leaving a room was mine and it has become a heavily recurring bit.
Q) What has been your favorite episode to film so far and why?
A) I love BFF-A-Rooney.  It was Kali’s first episode first season.  It gave a lot to my character that I felt wasn’t there and you got to see Joey choose to make his mom feel better, get fairly down to earth and heartfelt.  It was something I had never gotten to do before so I was ecstatic.
Q) What are some of the storylines or funny moments you can tease about that we will get to see this season?
A) There are some really cool things Season 3.  My favorite is you get to See Willow (Jessica Marie Garcia) and Joey get a little more comfortable with each other and they get closer than they ever have before. *Wink wink*  Season 3 we have really come into our own as a show.  Everything seems to just get better and better.  Parker does Joey’s bidding,  Joey does Maddie’s bidding and Dump Truck does NOBODY”S BIDDING!
Q) Has comedic timing always come naturally to you or is it something that you have studied and honed?
A) It was something I have always had.  My parents are the two funniest people I know so I think I was just raised right around the right people.
Q) Who would you love to see guest star on the show?
A) I’ve said it before and I will say it again – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.  I want him to play Willow’s dad.  Wouldn’t that be perfect?  Imagine asking The Rock if his daughter is home.  He’s the only person more intimidating than Jess Marie Garcia.
Q) What have you gained and taken away from your experiences working on Liv and Maddie?
A) I have tried to absorb as much out of this experience as I can. I feel like doing four years on a Disney show is like film school where they pay YOU. I just want to take in as much as I can about myself, how a set works and the figure out what my next plan after “Liv and Maddie” is.
Q) You are a part of social media, why is it important for you to interact with fans this way and how has the instant fan feedback been?
A) Without social media, I don’t know what my life would be like. The fact that all your feedback is instant can get inspiring and uplifting, but in the same way it can really make you second guess yourself.  All my fans have been so supportive of all my choices for the most part and I love that I get to connect with them on such a personal level.  It makes us see the difference we are making in kids’ lives in real time.
Q) What are some of the things that you have in common with your character?
A) Everything.  Joey is based off… You guessed it, Joey.  In real life I am not too far off.  Some say it’s like I’m cursed because bad things just happen when I’m in control.  I have broken countless things on set (Including Dove), I have had ideas that should have totally stayed in my brain and lastly ALL THE KITTY SHIRTS!
