K.C Klyde – On the Hunt

By  |

Q.  What are some of the recent projects that you’ve been working on?

A.  Next month I have I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer coming out.  This is the third to the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchises, the third installment.  That comes out next month, I’m not sure of the release date because it keeps changing.  I just keep being told some time in August.  Then, I just finished a film in Boston actually, which is called The Dead.  It’s a romantic comedy that next month I am going to the first prescreening to see how it turned out.

Q.  You also recently worked on the film Read It and Weep, is that correct?

A.  That’s right, on the Disney Channel.  That comes out very soon, I think it airs today if I am not mistaken.  I think it airs today, tomorrow and Sunday.  Then Wednesday is the end of the initial run and then based on how well it does, they’ll either keep it going or not; I’m not sure.

Q.  With Read It and Weep being released, what made you want to be a part of it?

A.  Well, it’s funny, the director of photography that was on that movie I had done a film with a couple of years prior, called The Best Two Years.  I got word from him about it and he said, “Look, you’ll like this movie, it’s geared toward a younger audience. There is this part of the older brother.  It’s more of a cameo, you can come in and work with all of us again and be funny and do your thing.”  From what he said, it sounded like a good time.  There was no pressure to the role, no pressure to the film.  They gave me a lot of liberty to be able to just go in and do what I wanted, but stay in the parameters of the script.  Just go in and have a good time and that appealed to me immensely.  Sometimes you do a film and it’s really pressure oriented and you have everything that has to get across and there was none of that to Read It and Weep.  It was very relaxed, low key, very easy set to work on.  It was a nice atmosphere, kind of a break to do.  I was just coming off of I Will Always Know What You Did Last Summer, which was all night shoots for like two months.  It’s obviously a horror movie, it’s scary, people are running around.  This one was a low key comedy and it seemed like a nice transition to go from something a little more intense to something a little softer.

Q.  Does I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer follow the same formula as the other films?

A.  It follows the same basis as the other two.  There is the fisherman, that myth and lore.  Obviously these kids have done something “naughty,” so they are in danger.  It kind of wraps the films up, it gives what the fisherman is, the basis of that lore and kind of settles it all.  I went to the premiere a few weeks ago and it turned out really nice.  I think for fans who enjoy that movie, it has a following, I think they’re going to be happy with what we did with it.  At the same time I think that someone who has never seen the movies can still jump on and get the gist of what’s happening and still feel like it’s resolved.

Q.  Do you have a most memorable moment from working on I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer?

A.  My most memorable moment is there is this girl who is kind of being chased. The character that I play has always had a thing for her.  There is this moment of realization where you feel like my character might be the bad guy.  She thinks he might be the bad guy.  It breaks his heart and to be able to do that, it’s funny you keep in the parameters the fact it’s still a horror genre, it made nice to play, that you weren’t always scared.  There was this moment between the two of us that made it more realistic for me; it brought it back to home.

Q.  Why should viewers take the time to check out this movie?

A.  I think overall because those who are fans of the movie; you will be happy with what they did with it.  Sylvain White who is the director was brilliant to work with, he’s definitely an up and coming amazing director.  I think Nancy Kirhoffer who produced the movie did a fantastic job.  I think they created something for the people who are die hard fans of that series to really enjoy.  I think at the same time, like I also said, if you’re not then you can go and find something to get scared.  You’re still going to enjoy it on that same level.  I think that aspect more than anything is worth checking it out.

Q.  Can you tell us a little bit about your character and about the premise for this installment?

A.  This character is new to the film itself, it’s got a new dynamic, which I enjoy.  I didn’t feel like I had to put on a different staple that’s already been done.  He actually is a cop, a town sheriff, one of the deputies.  He is fresh out of college and on the deputy scene and he’s not too far from the kids that this is happening to.  He’s got that interest with the character Amber.  Closer and closer in the movie you suspect multiple people through the film as to who could possibly be doing these horrendous acts.  At one point I think you’ll feel very strongly that it could be my character.  It makes it fun for me to play because watching it you’re like, “Is he? Is he not? But he likes this girl and it’s a little creepy.”  They created this new character to help move all of that along and that ends up being this character.  He was a fun character to play, I enjoyed it.  It’s a movie about these kids and they heard about this lore, it happens in another town, they don’t live in the same town.  So, they play a prank and one of them disguises himself as the fisherman.  The prank goes horribly wrong and so they never tell, they keep it between themselves, they never tell this horrible thing that they accidentally did.  Obviously, staying true to the original movies.  That in return brings the actual fisherman to their town.

Q.  What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A.  I am pretty active in my spare time.  Like most people I’m totally a dork, I love going to movies, I go to probably more than I should.  I am definitely active, I love to be outdoors.  Rock climbing, going to the beach, surfing, mountain biking.  I can’t be cooped up for too long, my brain gets destroyed.  I have been rock climbing since I was thirteen.  Five or six years ago I moved to Los Angeles and learned how to surf and I’ve been doing that since.  I have done everything from sky diving to scuba diving.  I like to be outside, I like to be doing things.  At the same time I get together with friends and sit around and play guitar or watch a movie.

Q.  Do you have a latest obsession?  Are you into any particular book, sport, music group or activity?

A.  I’m a huge music fan, there is a group out there I know that I just discovered called Palo Alto.  I think they’re fantastic.  It’s summer time so just going to the beach, I just love going down there.  Even if it is just hanging out, it’s too hot out here.  Anything closer to the water, the better.

Q.  What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A.  Thank you.  Thank you above and beyond.  The bottom line that I always try to keep in perspective is that I love doing what I do.  I love entertaining, I love taking on new characters and doing new things.  If there are people out there that resonate with that, that enjoy that; that makes me ecstatic.  That’s all I really care about outside of everything else; it’ll come and go and it’ll be what it is.  If there are people out there that enjoy your work, I just think it’s incredibly flattering.  I’m flattered that you wanted to talk to me, that’s fantastic.  I wouldn’t know what to say but thank you.
