Kathryn Winslow – Finding the Truth

By  |

Q.  What are the current projects that you are working on?

A.  I am working on a TV series called “This Is Wonderland,” which is a show in Canada on a National television station called CBC.  It’s a legal drama that is sort of a cross between “Law and Order” and “Ally McBeal” I would say.  I have been doing that for three seasons and we’re about halfway through our third season.  I also just finished a film that’s being released this month that’s called Where the Truth Lies.  That stars Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth and it’s directed by one of Canada’s most well respected and well known directors named Atom Egoyan.  I am in development on a television movie right now as well.

Q.  What can you tell us about the premise for Where the Truth Lies and your character Coreen?

A.  My character is Coreen and the film is about two sort of entertainment, it’s like a comedy duo in the 1950’s.  A very famous sort of Las Vegas lounge act, and those are the characters played by Kevin and Colin.  They’re involved in a big scandal, it’s a murder mystery and a young girl dies in their hotel room.  The film is sort of about how lies and reputation and perception and Hollywood all are sort of a recipe for disaster, if you try and cover up secrets.  I play Kevin and Colin’s publicist and I help them cover up the murder, I discover the body of the dead girl in their hotel room.  I help to cover up the murder and end up getting murdered myself for trying to evade the police.

Q.  What made you want to be a part of this project?

A.  Atom Egoyan is a very famous director and I had done a film that he had produced in the year before and he called me and asked me if I would do it.  I was really honored and excited to be a part of it, I think he’s an incredible film maker.  I was thrilled to be a part of his movie.

Q.  Do you have a most memorable moment from filming this movie?

A.  I would say I spent about three days with Kevin and Colin in the hotel room filming this one particular scene where we discover the body of the dead girl in the bathtub.  I have to when I discover the body shriek and scream and cry and vomit.  Because of the nature of the film I had to do it a thousand times, because when you do a feature film they want to cover scenes from a million different angles.  So, somewhere on the third day of screaming and shrieking and panicking I was just exhausted and fell asleep in between setups on the hotel room floor.  So, I would say that is the most memorable moment.

Q.  What was it like getting to work with director Atom Egoyan?

A.  It was wonderful, he’s a very smart, gentle director.  He is the sort of person who casts actors that he knows and likes their work so that the time on set isn’t spent with him giving a huge amount of direction.  He just allows you to experiment and just sort of guides you.

Q.  There were a lot of famous actors in the film.  Did the cast have a lot of chemistry?

A.  Yes, they did.  It was wonderful, all of the actors were fun and funny and it was a wonderful experience.

Q.  Not only are you an actress, but you also create projects for the stage.  Why is creating stage projects a passion of yours?

A.  I am classically trained, I went to theater school and studied the classics.  I would say theater is something that I always hoped to be able to spend time doing and creating theater is just part of my life and part of my passion.

Q.  Besides creating and acting, is there anything else that you would be interested in trying your hand at?

A.  I am also a writer and I’m interested in producing film and television.

Q.  What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A.  I do yoga, I am a runner and I spend time with my friends.

Q.  Do you have a latest obsession?  Are you in to any particular activity, sport, or book?

A.  I am a little bit obsessed with knitting actually.  My grandmother taught me how to knit a couple of years ago and I started knitting because it was a good thing to do.  When I quit smoking and when I spent long hours on set instead of smoke I would knit, and now I’m obsessed with knitting.

Q.  What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A.  I would just like to say that I am grateful for all of their support, which continues to thrill me and keep their eye on me.
