Kathy – America’s Next Top Model

By  |

Q) Who is your favorite designer?

A) I am really digging Gwen Stefani. I also like Carolina Herrera’s dresses. I don’t know what it is about them, but I just love them!

Q) Why did you decide to apply for the show?

A) I had an open window of opportunity to go and I so I wanted to go and do some things that I had always wanted to try and do. Low and behold, it just kind of happened in a spontaneous way. I kept procrastinating going to the open casting calls and so I finally decided I wasn’t going to wait until cycle seven. I figured I’d go up to Washington, D.C. and try out and they ended up liking me!

Q) What was it like meeting Tyra Banks?

A) That was the weirdest experience. Meeting Tyra was actually huge and the first time I met her, I remember thinking I am only an inch shorter than she is! She is the warmest nicest person. It’s like I honestly connected with her when I first met her.

Q) What did you like about living in the house?

A) I really liked the pool! I never ever get to go swimming because it’s such a really long distance if I wanted to go. I’m such a water child and the pool was right there. I also liked living with the girls because there are not that many people that live in the small town where I am from. There are not that many people my own age so it was really cool to get to hang out with the girls.

Q) What was your first reaction to learning you had to shave your head?

A) Since I have the longest hair, I was kind of shocked. I thought, “What are they going to do for the rest of the photo shoots? Put wigs on us?” Although, in my audition tape, I had said that if they wanted to shave my head I would do it because I trust their opinion and I had that much faith in it. I thought that if they thought it would look good then it probably would. Even though I probably wouldn’t have liked the look, I would have rocked it anyway. I have seen models having to wear crazy things on the runway that look terrible, but they act like they enjoy wearing it and wear it every day. So, I figured it was kind of the same thing, like an endurance test. I can say I would have been miserable, but at least I have a hat!

Q) The press thought you needed to lose your accent. How did that make you feel?

A) At first it really offended me. I saw the point for if I had to do a commercial or something because we’d need to appeal to a wider range of people. In a way, though, I felt like I was kind of discriminated against, too, because there were other girls there with accents that weren’t told to lose theirs. I guess because theirs were exotic they were more appreciated. I did try to lose my accent for maybe a day, but then I decided I liked my accent and wanted to keep it.

Q) Why do you think they chose Faronda over you?

A) You know, I really don’t know. I thought my picture was better than her’s, but somebody had to go. I would have wanted to stay longer, but I know that Faronda had really been kind of chasing it her whole life. So, I guess they probably figured that she wanted it more than I did, but I really wanted it, too! I thought I had potential so you never know.

Q) What was your most memorable moment from being on the show?

A) There are so many! I guess the most memorable would be having been eliminated. I don’t know, but it’s just a weird experience. It’s a bad memory, but it’s going to be the most memorable.

Q) Who do you plan on keeping in touch with from the show?

A) There are a few girls that I’ve talked to since the show. We’re all still trying to stay in touch. I’ve kept in touch with almost every girl.

Q) What are you going to do now that you are no longer on the show?

A) I am going to be, at least, able to watch the end of the show with maybe a little sense of relief since I am not going to have to be worrying about what I’m doing. I definitely have a list of agencies that I want to go see to check if they like me. We’ll go from there and I might try some agencies over seas because I know different locations have different tastes in models. If I go through all of that and I don’t get it, then maybe I wasn’t supposed to get it. It’s always good to have a Plan B.

Q) Who do you think will win “America’s Next Top Model” this season?

A) I really don’t know. I think that all of them are on an equal playing field. One can be strong in one aspect while another can be weak in a different aspect. It’s a yin and yang theory. One girl can bring one time to the table while another might not. Another girl might be able to bring the other thing to the plate. They’re all beautiful so I think they all have an equal chance.
