Donna (Erinn Hayes) sees a massive spider in the corner of their bedroom and demands that Kevin (Kevin James) kill it. Kevin is busy brushing his teeth so he is no rush to deal with the situation. After Donna bugs him some more, he finally gives it a good whack with a folded magazine but does not know where it landed. Spoiler alert: It was in Donna’s hair. Of course, Donna believes he is joking, but realizes quickly that he is not. After the usual freak out, the spider lands on Kevin’s shirt so Donna starts slapping him with the magazine and the spider ends up under the couple’s bed. After this Kevin gives up, grabs his pillow and decides to make other sleeping arrangements because the spider knows “what he looks like.”
Donna asks Kevin if he wants breakfast and he is conflicted. He plans on running, but the food on the table looks really good. His kids remind him that the last time he ran, his son Jack (James DiGiacomo) had to give him a ride back home on his bike and it was not a pretty sight. Kevin decides to sit down for the time being. When Kendra (Taylor Spreitler) comes downstairs all dressed up, she tells her parents that she is participating in a mock trial for school. She will be a playing a defense lawyer involved in a death penalty case. Kendra asks her parents if they have seen her fiancé Chale (Ryan Cartwright). They say they have not and ask Kendra why she has not asked Chale where he has been. Kendra says it is not necessary because their relationship is built on trust. Kevin scoffs at that and says that Chale is probably cheating. Kendra asks her parents to stay out of it. Donna agrees. After Kendra leaves the kitchen, Donna demands that Kevin find out what Chale is hiding.
When Chale comes back to the house, Kevin is waiting. It does not take long for Kevin to ask Chale why he is suddenly coming home later than usual. Chale reveals that he has been working more so he can save enough money to afford an engagement ring for Kendra. Kevin is impressed, but he remembers that he told Donna twenty-years ago that he would buy her a better engagement ring when he got more money, but never did. After listening to Chale, he feels guilty.
After sharing Chale’s story with his brother Kyle (Gary Valentine) and friend Mott (Christopher Brian Roach), Kevin needs to find money so he can afford an expensive ring for Donna. Kyle suggests that Kevin could get the money from the couples’ savings account. Kevin points out that Donna will find out about the purchase because she looks through their monthly finances. Mott advises Kevin to make sure that he get the mail first so Donna will find out about the purchase after receiving the ring. Kevin decides to follow his friend’s idea.
There is one hangup with Kevin’s plan. It is not the ’90s. It is 2017. Most people can look at their bank statements online so that is how Donna finds out that six thousand dollars is missing from their account and she is not happy. At first Kevin denies that he took the money, but comes clean when Donna is ready to call the bank. He tells her that wants to buy an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) and Donna yells at him. She is shocked that her “giant man-baby” husband would use a large amount of money for something they do not need. Hurt, Kevin leaves the room. Chale overhears Donna and reveals that Kevin was planning on buying her an engagement ring. Donna feels bad for lashing out and impressed that Kevin was planning to buy her another ring. Excited about her new ring, Donna tells that Kevin that can buy the “quad.” She even tells him that he can spend more than six thousand if he wants to. Kevin forgets that he is supposed to be buying a ring and is excited that Donna is okay with him buying a quad.
When Kevin tells Mott and Kyle what happened with Donna, Kyle still believes that Kevin should buy Donna a ring. Kevin says that Donna gave him permission to buy the ATV so it is okay to do that. Mott agrees and calls dibbs on being able to ride it once Kevin gets it. During their date night, Kendra cannot take it anymore. She needs to know where Chale has been so she finally asks him. He tells her about the job and saving for the ring and proposes again. Kendra is excited until she sees the ring. It is does not have a diamond so the prongs where the diamond is supposed to go jab her, but it is the thought that counts. Chale assures her that once he has enough money that he will complete her ring.
Later, Kevin goes downstairs and sees Kendra eating ice-cream. Naturally he grabs a spoon and joins her to chat and to eat some. Kendra tells him that she is upset about how she reacted to the ring that Chale gave her. Kevin assures her that her reaction was natural because the ring was incomplete. She points out that Kevin would do whatever he could to make Donna happy and it makes Kevin feel guilty because he is planning to buy the ATV instead of the ring.
The next day, Donna is dressed up because she is excited about her ring. She is surprised that Kevin is wearing regular clothes. However, she is very disappointed that Kevin is actually going to buy an ATV. Resigned, hurt and in a rush to get out of there, she tries to get him to buy the cheaper one, but Kevin wants her to look at an expensive one. Frustrated, she looks inside the storage box and sees an engagement ring box. Kevin bought the ring! When Donna puts the ring on her finger, she realizes something. While her old ring may not be expensive, it is full of wonderful memories and she does not want a new flashy one. When he gives her back her old one, she insists that he propose again like he did twenty-two years ago. After Kevin’s knees lock and she helps him up, Donna gets down on one knee and asks Kevin to return the fancy ring and tells him to buy the ATV. Kevin refuses at first but quickly agrees.
In the closer, Donna and Kevin have a fun time riding the ATV. Kevin gets revenge on his kids for their running jokes by not letting them get a turn riding the ATV. Kendra tells Chale that she expects him to put a diamond on her ring in the future.
