Kim – America’s Next Top Model

By  |

Q) Who are your favorite designers?

A) Right now, my favorite designer is probably Balenciaga. I wore one of his dresses recently and I really loved the way it looked on me. I’ve also seen it on Gemma Ward and I really appreciate his style a lot.

Q) Why did you decide to apply for the show?

A) I decided to do it because modeling is something I hadn’t really thought about before. I had thought about it a few times before because my mom is a model, but I hadn’t thought about it seriously. I thought it would be something fun to do right out of college. Actually, while filming, I became really involved in it and it ended up being something I want to do for a living. It changed my life!

Q) What was your audition experience like?

A) I went to a casting and then I was sent to a casting. I received a call saying I made it to semifinals and it went from there!

Q) What was it like meeting Tyra Banks?

A) Tyra, obviously, is someone who knows as much as you can about the field and modeling within the fashion industry. I think, for me, that she was a really big inspiration because she taught us a lot about her experiences, as well as what we might be experiencing in the next few months. Obviously, it was a great learning experience to be able to talk to her!

Q) Why do you think they chose Bre over you?

A) I think that my photos hadn’t been extremely strong in the beginning. I’m still a bit confused about that because I thought that I had done a really good job in the recent weeks. I thought I did a better job than she had. To be honest, I don’t really know why they chose Bre. I think that we both had struggled, but were doing better at recent time and I think, at that point, it’s really hard for them to choose anyone. Everyone is very talented and, at that point, there are only five left and it becomes a hard decision then.

Q) Since being on the show, have you cleared the air with Bre?

A) No, we actually haven’t spoken since I was eliminated, but I think that we will both look back on it and realize that the competition got the best of both of us. If she is able to apologize and be civil with me than I think I can do the same for her.

Q) What did you learn about modeling from the show?

A) I learned it’s a lot harder than I thought! I think that I always knew it was a challenge because my mom told me about it (about her experiences when she was younger). I definitely didn’t think that there as a whole lot more to it than posing, walking, etc. Those things ended up being extremely difficult for me and for everyone. I think that I learned a lot about what it takes to be a model.

Q) You guest starred on the show “Veronica Mars.” Is there any chance you will pursue acting?

A) Yeah, I’d definitely like to get into acting. I am going to apply to an acting agency, take some lessons and, hopefully, it will go from there.

Q) The judges mentioned that you needed to spend time working on your hands. Have you done that?

A) I have! I definitely thought about how to be more graceful and be aware of all of my body parts, make sure they are in the right places and acting in a sort of more feminine way in a lot of instances. I definitely worked on that and think I’ve improved.

Q) The show made you and Nicole seem to be gossips. Have you learned from that and changed?

A) I think that everyone was a gossip on the show. I mean, Bre tried to portray us that way, but I am not sure that the show did. I think that the show portrayed everyone as being a gossip. If you remember, Jayla was talking about Nik in a really brutal way. Perhaps, it was a more brutal way than anyone did. You see instances of everyone talking about other people. I think that also the way I acted on the show is very very different than the way I act in real life, in terms of talking about people. I won’t, for instance, spend a whole lot of time in my life with people that I would want to talk about behind their back. I don’t speak about my friends behind their back. I’m a very loyal friend in that way. I think that, obviously, being on the show and being surrounded by some people that I really didn’t like very much that it brought about a lot more of talking about people rather than talking kindly. I think it’s an out of life experience. You don’t quite know the way you’re going to act.

Q) Do you think the show portrayed your relationship with Sarah accurately?

A) I think that the show definitely made it look a lot more serious than it was. I didn’t have a “relationship” with her. I think Sarah and I were very close friends and the line was blurred a little bit, very briefly. I had a girlfriend and she had someone back home. I think that we knew that we would not become something. We were on the same page about that and I definitely felt watching it that it looked a lot more serious than I remember it being.

Q) What was your favorite part of being in London?

A) It was nice to be out of the house finally. Obviously, that house became a little bit claustrophobic for all of us. Going to London was a really exciting experience for me. My parents lived in London, actually, at the time so it wasn’t like I was going to some new place. I did enjoy being there and becoming closer to Nicole and just having the competition progress in the way that it did.

Q) What are you going to do now that you are no longer on the show?

A) I am definitely going to go to some modeling agencies and some acting studios to see what opportunities arise from those. I’ll do my best to become successful in one of those areas or both!

Q) Who do you plan on keeping in touch with?

A) I talk to Kyle almost every day. I still talk to Nicole and Ebony. I talk to Lisa, actually. I talk to Sarah every once in a while.

Q) Who do you see winning the show?

A) I think that Nicole should win the show. I think that she is the best model out of all of us. Her pictures were fantastic. She has a great walk and she’s got that amazing look. It’s sort of like her pale skin with her eyes creates a really amazing look for her. I think that her beauty and her ability to take good photos will definitely make her win.

Q) Are you heading for “The Tyra Banks Show” now?

A) At some point I believe that I will be on “The Tyra Banks Show.” I hope to be!

Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A) To everyone who watched the show, I would like to say that I hope that, if anything, my experience and my portrayal on the show opened your mind a little bit to a more liberal way of thinking. I hope that it gave you a greater perspective on the types of people that can be models and also about the types of people and personalities that are in the gay community. I hope that there are some young kids out there that are gay and afraid to come out, or a little bit shy in that sense, I hope that perhaps my portrayal of being so proud about my sexuality helps them.
