Lauren Burchell – Below Deck

Q) What got you into yachting?

A) I was teaching scuba diving in Central America four years ago when another student (now my best friend Lily) convinced me to join the super yacht industry with my diving as we are in high demand. As soon as she mentioned travel, amazing pay and a seven-star chef cooking all your meals I was sold!

Q) Captain Lee is known for his no-nonsense policies. Did that make you nervous join the show?

A) Not really. I’m usually very well behaved and respectful, but this job is a bit different from others I guess!

Q) Were there certain parts of your life that you deemed off limits to the camera?

A) No, not really. I’m a very open person when it comes to friends and family and my personality.

Q) We have seen many of the crew clash with Trevor. What was your first impression of him?

A) I could see he was insecure from the start. Anyone that pushes that much authority on crew members has a chip on their shoulder. So, instead of taking it personally you have to understand the bigger picture and that there’s definitely something else going on.

Q) What were some of your most memorable moments from filming?

A) Making lifelong friends, getting to be in the crystal blue water every day and seeing all the behind the scenes work was really interesting!

Q) Is there anything you want to be sure fans know about you and this season of Below Deck?

A) I love being a deckhand. I’m the friendliest person you’ll meet until you really piss me off then I can get scary. [laughs] Having fun is my number one priority – I think this season’s crew can agree on that last point!

Q) You are a part of social media. Are you enjoying the instant fan feedback you have begun receiving when the episodes air?

A) I am getting so much support and love from fans of the show and our crew specifically. It’s so exciting! I’m enjoying it a lot!

Q) What do you think it is about Below Deck that has made it a fan favorite show?

A) I think it’s because not many people know about the yachting industry. So, it’s all new and exciting and almost unbelievable there’s a job out there where you can travel the world, get paid amazing for it, serve the rich and famous and meet very likeminded worldly people! Also, your crew is living in such small quarters – you had to eat, sleep, party, work and rest together. There’s no escape!
