Laz Alonso – The Mysteries of Laura

By  |

Q) What can you tell us about the premise for “Mysteries of Laura” and about your character Billy?

A) It’s a fun, light hearted one-hour cop dramedy. My character is Laura’s partner (played by Debra Messing) and a part from solving crimes we are also great friends.

Q) What made you want to be a part of this project?

A) It was an opportunity to do something comedic, which I don’t often have a chance to do. It was a new area and a challenge for me. I was excited about tackling a new genre within my field.

Q) Was there anything you added to the role that wasn’t originally scripted for you?

A) Billy is now of Latin descent and speaks Spanish  in a lot of the episodes. New York serves as the perfect backdrop for that added culture flare to the show.

Q) You get to work with some powerhouse ladies, Debra Messing and Janina Gavankar. Did the chemistry and dynamic come naturally or did that take time to develop?

A) It came naturally. Our cast has a very good, natural fit and we all really work well together. We all respect each other and it shows on screen.

Q) What is it about NBC that makes the show such a great fit for the network?

A) NBC has always excelled with comedies. This show allows the network to do what it does best while still providing a dramatic storyline to the show.

Q) Are there any guest stars that you can tease we will see?

A) None that I will risk my job over, but just know that one was INCONCEIVABLE!!

Q) What are some of the struggles Billy will be experiencing?

A) Billy is a stud. He doesn’t struggle.

Q) Which scene was the hardest to film and why?

A) Well, the hours have been extremely long, so it’s hard to say. But I know the worst is yet to come as Winter approaches and we’ll be shooting exteriors in the freezing cold. Not looking forward to that! I hate Winter!

Q) Are you looking forward to the instant fan feedback that social media provides?

A) Yes, watching the show and live tweeting adds an element to the experience that really engages the audience and what they responded to. It helps a lot with ad-libbing as well.

Q) Why do you think viewers should take their time to tune in?

A) They should tune in because it will make 8pm every Wednesday night their favorite night of the week!

Q) Is there anything else you would like to share about the show or tell fans?

A) Tune in. I promise you will laugh out loud at least 4.6 times throughout the show!
