Q) How would you best describe your sound?

A) I think it’s like psychedelic indie rock.

Q) Who are your greatest musical influences?

A) The Strokes, The Beach Boys, Hombres G, Mgmt.

Q) Tell us the story behind the song “Mazunte 2016.”

A) I wanted to make a crazy surf song that featured the highest number of cliches possible with a crazy guitar solo and a crazy ending. The lyrics are about someone who is having a hard time adapting to his friend’s new personality while trying to flashback to and old vacation they both shared before.

Q) You also shot a video for “Mazunte 2016,” which was directed by Emilio Guerrero Alexander. What was the inspiration behind the video and was the retro feel intentionally meant to mimic the nostalgia of the surf-style music genre?

A) Yeah, the album is totally nostalgic so we wanted the video to feel like looking back into a memory with no real narrative, kind of like wandering through your memories.

Q) As the vibe of the video for “Mazunte 2016” is all about enjoying life and having fun, what have you done during this time to keep your spirits up?

A) Mmm. Nothing really. Just trying to not lose my mind, we have a lot of things going on so we’ve been busy.

Q) One of my favorite songs on the new album is “Éramos para Siempre.” The song feels so personal and heartbreaking. How much of your music do you draw from personal experience?

A) Just a little bit, sometimes I see something on the TV or on the internet and make a whole song about it and imagining what this person experiencing it may feel.

Q) What song on Mazunte 2016 was your favorite to record and why?

A) It has changed, but I think that the first one “No Sé Surfear.” I like the arrangements and the general vibe of the song. It is very different to the music we usually put out, but I think it preserves the feeling of a los blenders song.

Q) What do you hope fans take away from the album?

A) Hopefully, they will listen to it from the beginning to the end and remember an imaginary trip to Mazunte.

Q) Will there be any virtual listening parties for the release of Mazunte 2016?

A) Yes, we are going to do a live show with a virtual beach called Mazunte 3016. We are gonna be playing the whole record.

Q) The band was recently signed to resurrected Mexico City label Devil in The Woods, who has worked with such bands & artists as Death Cab For Cutie and Bright Eyes. What attracted you most to sign with them and how have they helped to elevate your sound?

A) I like the fact that they have given us total freedom to do whatever we want, so that’s pretty cool. The album was already finished when we started working with them, but now we have the chance to go crazy with video ideas that would’ve been impossible to accomplish without their backup

Q) Despite music on hold for the remainder of 2020, which song has been your favorite to perform live?

A) I like “Depresión Tropical.” It makes me feel like I’m in the strokes.

Q) If I were to take a peek at your music collection, what would I find in your current rotation?

A) I’ve just stumbled upon “The Free Design” a crazy 60’s band in the “Beach Boys” category, but with some really crazy and cool songs. Also, to a lot of Italian soundtracks from Piero Umiliani and Bruno Nicolai.

Q) What would you like to share with your fans & supporters of your music?

A) Stay safe! Wear a mask and wash your hands! 😀
