The episode started with Dreamer’s Disease by Letlive in a flashback to Chloe’s father, Officer John Decker (Chris Payne Gilbert), in a diner bantering with the owner Pete (Simon Leung) about how slow he’s going – saying that sloths and snails move faster than Pete. That’s when we see John pull out tickets and hand them to Pete for a show or movie that his “Little Monkey” (Chloe) will be in. Pete looks up at the door in fear, which causes John to turn around and find himself face to face with a masked man holding a gun pointed straight at him. Before he gets a chance to talk the masked man down, he is shot dead as the man robs the diner.

Back in the present time, a very fired up Chloe is (Lauren German) talking on the phone to Deputy Warden Perry Smith (Alex Fernandez) about the man who killed her father being released only to have Lucifer (Tom Ellis) show up. He is being annoying and needy about how Dr. Linda cancelled their appointment. When Chloe tells him that she has her own problems to deal with, Lucifer sits down and basically tells her they have to sort them out only to have Chloe tell him he couldn’t help. This leads Lucifer to believe that being himself is a problem so he must be someone who is better and more helpful and boring. That’s when Dan arrives and notices that something is wrong with Chloe. Lucifer sees this and the wheels start turning in his mind.

When we see Chloe again she’s at the prison that’s currently home to the man who killed her father trying to make Warden Smith see reason as to why he cannot be released for family leave. When the Warden says that he knows how Chloe feels, she proceeds to inform him that he has no idea how she feels. For him to say that Fields has been a model inmate for over a decade, this does not sit well with Chloe who questions if the leave is just so he can kill someone else and the answer she receives back is it’s for his granddaughter’s christening. Chloe says her father wasn’t even able to make it to his own granddaughter’s christening. This angst filled moment comes to a hold when Lucifer calls and tells Chloe he is no longer Lucifer – that he’s decided to walk a million in someone else’s shoes. He asks her for permission to shadow Dan. She tells him that could only lead to terrible things and hangs up to take off after the prisoner bus. Unfortunately, she finds it ransacked and everyone inside shot to death.

Dan and Lucifer show up to the crime scene where they make a deal that Lucifer can shadow him as long as he follows the rules Dan sets. Ella (Aimee Garcia) makes her grand presence and is not a witty and exuberant as normal when she learns that the victim is the man who murdered Chloe’s father. Lucifer (being who he is) makes the remark that Chloe should be pleased that the man is dead. When Dan asks who found it, Chloe said she did that he’s the one who called it in. Once they are back at the station Dan and Lucifer question Chloe who says she doesn’t know what she would do and Chloe agrees to step away. Dan says that Lucifer shouldn’t be on the case to which Chloe says that it would mean a lot to her if both Dan and Lucifer worked together on it.

Meanwhile, Maze goes to an interview to be a school aide dressed in a very short black dress when Trixie (Scarlett Estevez) asks her what she likes to do because her teacher had told them to do things they enjoy to which Chloe smiles about. Maze heads out to the interview when there is a knock on the door, Chloe tells Trixie to go get ready for school as she answers to find a woman standing there who pulls a gun on her. We find out she is Tina Fields (Caitlin Stryker), the daughter of the Joe Fields (Lobo Sebastian) who said her father didn’t deserve to die as he just wanted to meet his granddaughter. While this is happening, Trixie calls out to Chloe and it causes the focus to shift making it so Chloe could grab the gun from Tina and explain to her that she didn’t kill her father. Tina said she didn’t want to believe that her father could kill a cop, but after receiving a video from her father’s lawyer she hands Chloe a video camera to review the video.

Lucifer and Dan go investigate their lead on a man named Rodney Lam (Ronnie Gene Blevins) only to see Lucifer in a change of clothing that matches that of Dan. When Dan tells Lucifer that he could be extremely dangerous Lucifer points out their suspect who is openly eating a burrito hotdog while he leans against his car. Meanwhile, back at Chloe’s apartment, they watch the video from Fields to his daughter. He confessed that he didn’t kill the cop and that he was sorry for missing all her birthdays and graduations. When Tina reveals that her father’s lawyers had the video for sixteen years it has to mean something, to which Chloe states that he recorded that the night her father was killed. After reviewing it again, she discovers that Tina’s father did not in fact kill John Decker and that whoever did was still out there.

Back at the station, Dan and Lucifer interrogate Rodney about the murder of Fields only to have Rodney admit he killed him right from the start. This leads Lucifer to get excited about an easy confession yet Dan needs details. He asks Rodney questions like where, how and when to only come to the fact that Rodney didn’t kill Fields after all. When asked why he committed to a crime he didn’t commit Rodney doesn’t answer. It’s when Lucifer uses his super awesome confession power that Rodney admits to wanting to be a good provider and to take care of his family so it seems he got paid to do it. Rodney explains that he put word out that he needed money because he was desperate and that people came to him. Meanwhile, we find Maze at the door of Dr. Linda (Rachael Harris) who is still so shocked that she will not answer the door. When Maze gets no response, she ends up getting into the office through an open window much to Linda’s shock. We see the rift between them when Linda says that Lucifer told her and showed him her face. When Maze asks if she’s afraid of her Linda says of course she is because Maze is a demon. When Maze asks if that’s really so bad Linda asks her to leave.

Chloe arrives at the station to tell Dan and Lucifer that Joe Fields didn’t kill her father and that whoever did she had the bank statement to show the money transfers. Lucifer says they met a guy who did the same thing. They find that the person who wired money to Rodney’s wife is the same guy that wired money to Joe Fields. What we see next is a flashback to Chloe’s first day on the job where she carries binders down the stairs to have an Officer Macmillan call her “Rookie” and say that she’s late. Chloe, not knowing any better, said she thought she was early when Macmillan starts giving her a hard time. We see Dan step in and tell Chloe to watch out for him and that Macmillan gave him a hard time, too. This is when Chloe and Dan met for the first time. As the flashback goes on, we see Dan helping Chloe and showing her around when she stops and notices her father’s name on the wall. Dan asks if she’s John Decker’s daughter to which Chloe smiles and nods. When the flashback ends we find Chloe looking at her father’s case files when Dan and Lucifer come in say that they found the guy wiring money is Boris Sokolov (Charles Halford) who is connected to the Russian mob. This leads Lucifer and Dan to go undercover to the bath house that Boris owns. We then get a nice moment with Chloe and Ella when she tells Chloe that she has been going over John’s paperwork. Back at the bath house, Lucifer (who is pretending to be Dan) continues his talk with Boris asking why he should help. Lucifer says they are two normal people who need his help, which leads to Boris telling them people call him the “Human Lie Detector. Lucifer as Dan tells Boris he wants to have Lucifer Morningstar dead because he hurts people and the real Dan catches on, playing along with Lucfier’s game. Lucifer and Dan arrest Boris and we see Chloe pleading with him to tell her what happened. Boris reveals he heard her father was sniffing around in something he didn’t belong.

Chloe thinks her father stumbled upon something that caused him to get a hit out on him. Dan asks if she wants his help, but is shot down again. When we see Maze again she comes in dressed in a sexy maid’s outfit from a job as a topless maid who still had to do work. We also see Lucifer following Dan down the street into a building where he finds Dan at an improv class where he is pretending to be Lucifer. Here we see a confrontation where truths come spilling out and Lucifer admits he hurts people yet also has a good bromance moment for the two. Lucifer arrives at Chloe and Maze’s apartment where Maze proceeds to tell Lucifer she wished he would think about someone other than himself after she lost her only friend. Lucifer proves to be helpful when he brings up that Fields smiled at her and that he wouldn’t smile at the daughter whose father he killed. This leads them to the prints of Warden Smith. When Chloe checks on Warden Smith she finds that he is the guy. Chloe tells Dan, “If I’m going to take this guy down I need my partner, that’s you.” When they get to the prison they find that the Warden gave them the slip.

Chloe and Lucifer go back to her apartment and she is greeted with strange sounds coming from inside as she’s about to unlock the door. She pulls her gun and nods to Lucifer to open it. When he does they find Maze with Warden Smith who she tracked down because she was bored. The moment leads to Chloe pointing a gun at Smith’s face while Lucifer and Maze turn their heads. This is the scene that shows just how much Chloe has struggled in her life, but being who she is she puts the gun down and calls it in. Maze once again goes to Linda where she slides her first check under Linda’s door from when she was paid as a bounty hunter. The pure excitement on Maze’s face was everything, as she talked she told Linda the first thing she wanted to do was celebrate with her friend. Linda slides the check back out, but she finally opened the door asking how they can be friends. Maze said they are still Maze and Lucifer is still the same old Lucifer and that she is still Dr. Linda Martin and finally causing Linda to go get drinks with her.

The episode comes to an end with a pretty awesome family moment scene with Chloe and Trixie that even includes Lucifer. Chloe, who is still in her pajamas, makes her signature breakfast sandwich yet again for Trixie. It is intercepted by Lucifer who asks why the child should get it first, but as Trixie stands to get dressed Chloe walks to Lucifer who holds his hands up only to have Trixie high five him. This leads to a scene between Chloe and Lucifer that makes the shippers hearts go boom…Lucifer tells Chloe he thinks her father would be very proud of her which leads Chloe to tears. Lucifer apologizes to which Chloe shakes her head telling him to shut up. She hugs him and Lucifer holds her as she cries. It was such a beautiful scene and such a beautiful way to end the episode.
