Malina Williams – One In A Million

Q.  What are the current projects that you’re working on?

A.  Right now I have “Windfall,” which is the new NBC series that premiered last night.  It’s going to be on Thursdays at 10 p.m.  And I have also a musical I did with Outkast called Idlewild.  It will come out August 26th and then also I am beginning production on Tyler Perry’s next project called Daddy’s Little Girl.

Q.  What can you tell us about the premise for “Windfall”?

A.  Well, it’s basically about twenty people who all buy into this lotto pool and they get to share in a three hundred and eighty-six million dollar jackpot.  It pretty much follows the lives of these people and how that significant amount of money effects them or changes their circumstances.  There is going to be some drama because as you’ll see, for some of the people the money changes them.  It changes their lives in a good way and for some of them it creates a lot more problems.

Q.  What made you want to be a part of this show?

A.  I thought it was a good premise first of all, I thought it would be something that would very entertaining.  Very light TV watching, nothing that you had to really think too hard about.  You didn’t have to solve a crime.  Just something I thought would be fun and I think everybody’s dream is to hit the lottery.  So, I thought people would be really intrigued by the premise.

Q.  Do you have a most memorable moment from working on the show?

A.  My most memorable moment so far has been the phone call that I received that said you are one of the lucky winners.  Even to just pretend that you won that kind of money is fun!

Q.  Why should viewers be tuning in to check out “Windfall”?

A.  Like I said, it’s everybody’s dream to win the lottery.  It’s one of those shows where even if you could live vicariously through these characters and say well, what would I do if I won twenty-million dollars, it’s fun to just sit down and dream.  I think that’s one of the reasons they should watch the show.  One of the other reason is that it is a great cast, it’s a beautiful cast of actors.  Some of the show ideas that are coming in the next few episodes are very titillating, very interesting.  I think we’ll keep viewers hooked.

Q.  Did you tune in to the premiere to see how everything from filming was put together?

A.  I sure did!  A few of my castmates and myself got together last night and we sat down and watched it.  We were all pretty happy with it.

Q.  You also can be seen in the upcoming movie Idlewild, as you mentioned.  How was it getting to work with Outkast?

A.  It was a lot of fun, at first I was a little intimidated because they are Outkast.  They’re huge stars and I thought “Hmm, what is it going to be like with them stepping into my arena?”  So to speak.  I’m not on stage with them singing, they were on set with me acting.  So, I thought that would be intimidating but it actually wasn’t.  The boys were very professional and they came there to learn yet another craft.  That was interesting and very fun like I said.

Q.  Have you always been interested in taking on a role in a musical?

A.  Not necessarily.  I’m just interested in taking on good roles, roles in good projects that people will love.  When I read Idlewild I knew it was something that people would be interested in.  I knew it was something that would be fun visually.  People would enjoy watching and it’s a period piece, so those are always interesting to do.  Because now you’re tapping into a whole other time period, so I thought it would be interesting.  It turned out that it is.

Q.  What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A.  I don’t have very much spare time these days but I have a lingerie line called Modern Goddess.  The website is http://www.moderngoddess.net and I work on that in my spare time.  I have a child so I spend time with him and I spend time with my friends.  I like to snowboard, just regular things.

Q.  What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A.  Thank you first and foremost for supporting me.  Just hope they enjoy the show, definitely tune in to “Windfall” on Thursdays at 10 p.m. on NBC.  Continue to support, I appreciate it.
