Marnette Patterson – Simply Charming

Q.  What are some of the recent projects that you’ve been working on?A.  One of the most recent projects I’ve worked on is a film called Goldfield Murders.  It’s actually based on a true story about a hotel that was built in the 1800s in a town called Goldfield during the embryonic stages of the goldrush.  It is now a complete ghost town, but in it’s day, there were murders that took place in the hotel, and it is said to be one of the most haunted places in the world. Our movie is about my character who is a parapsychology major and her four friends video taping the hotel for her thesis. It was a very weird and crazy experience to be filming in a hotel they say is one of the seven portals to the other side. Very weird things happened while filming, we saw figures in the hotel, phones would ring that weren’t plugged in, and the scariest event was when one of the bodyguards from the film disappeared while filming in the hotel.

Q.  You have been appearing on the show “Charmed.”  What made you want to be a part of this show?A.  It was really great to join an already established show. All of the series I’ve done have started from an idea, but with “Charmed” – it was great to be part of a highly anticipated finale.

Q.  Kaley Cuoco plays your sister on “Charmed.”  Do you find there is a lot of chemistry between you two when filming?A.  Kaley and I had instant chemistry. Although we have very different personalities, she and I were both raised in California, and growing up acting.  I think that gave us a connection from the beginning.  We are in every scene together, and it’s great to feel so connected when you spend that much time together.

Q.  Do you have a most memorable moment from working on the show?A.  My most memorable moment on set so far would be the scene where I had to eat chicken off the bone and start my plate on fire. I primarily never eat meat, and they put this cold, veiny, raw, chicken bone on my plate at 630 am and I had to devour it over and over again. Well actually I think I ate chicken prior to doing that scene. However, now, not so much.

Q.  What is a day on the set filming like for you?A.  A regular day of filming usually starts with getting to set in the morning when it’s still dark, going to hair and makeup, going in to rehearse, going back “in the works” then coming to set to film. There is a lot of waiting, but the crew is so fantastic, it makes everything a joy.

Q.  The show has some physical aspects to it.  How do you prepare for these aspects?A.  Honestly about those physical aspects-we have an amazing group of girls who do all of our major stunts. It’s amazing what these poor girls are put through. You have no idea.

Q.  You also recently worked on a film called Work.  What can you tell us about the premise of the movie and about your character?A.  The film “work” Is based on a true story about upper-class neighborhoods, and how the lack of parenting and excess money and freedom leads young people down the wrong paths.  My character gets into drugs, and ends up pregnant and ultimately having an abortion.

Q.  Why should viewers take the time to check out this film?A.  Honestly this film is an eye-opening look at a group of misunderstood young people who didn’t get there accidentally. How parenting-or the lack there of truly influences these “rich” kids, and primarily from those working families who don’t have time raise or give rules to their own children. It’s great acting, and the film is done in a very real way.

Q.  What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?A.  In my spare time, well when I find some, I really enjoy traveling, hanging out with my Mom (OK, I’m a dork), relaxing at home, reading, hiking with friends, and I love going out to fun dinners and trying new restaurants.

Q.  Do you have a latest obsession?  Are you into any particular music group, book, sport or activity?A.  My latest obsession would be The Chinese teacher Lao Tse. I am reading “Tao Te Ching” and it is quite fascinating.  I’m also writing a screenplay.

Q.  Now that it is 2006, what are you most looking forward to this year?A.  In 2006 I really want to find peace with myself. Not to sound cliché, but it’s hard to stay grounded as an actress. There is a lot of expectations, and you can lose sight of who you are.

Q.  What would you like to say to all of your fans and supporters?A.  I have fans??  Honestly, I do put a lot Into each character I play, and it means so much to me that it is recognized and appreciated.  Thanks!
