Meah – R U The Girl

Q) Who are some of your favorite musical artists?

A) I definitely love what Mariah Carey has going on now. I like Ciara, Destiny’s Child and Beyonce’s solo project. I like hip-hop, Jay-Z, Jadakiss and Stevie Wonder is probably my all time favorite.

Q) Why did you decide to apply for the show?

A) I love TLC and they have always been sort of an inspiration for just my performance, as far as stage performance. They have always been a group that I’ve looked up to. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to grasp on to what they were doing and learn from the best.

Q) What was your audition tape like for the show?

A) My audition was scary, it was very scary, but it was very exciting. I couldn’t believe I was there, but it was a lot of fun.

Q) What was it like meeting T-Boz and Chilli?

A) Meeting them for the first time was wild! I’m a big fan of T-Boz and Chilli so I was a little star struck and screaming. It was a little overwhelming, but I was really excited.

Q) What is your performance background?

A) I have done some hip-hop dance training, I studied at a dance studio, I was a cheerleader for the Baltimore Ravens for three years and did a lot of choreography and I got to dance at the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl. I did cheerleading and poms when I was in high school and danced with the band when I was in college. I’ve done a lot of dancing and I also used to sing in an R&B group so I had some recording experience.

Q) Where did you get your inspiration for the song you performed at T-Boz’s birthday party?

A) My inspiration for that song was the overall emotion that I felt being in that house. It was a song that came straight from my heart. It was even hard for me to rehearse it because I kept crying every time I sang the words because I would always think about what they meant. It just meant so much to me to be there, that they allowed me to be there, they welcomed me in and let me stay there as long as I did. My inspiration was my own emotions, gratitude and what I felt for T-Boz and Chilli and what they were doing.

Q) How did you feel when you were pulled aside by a family to have a private talk?

A) When I spoke to Chilli’s mom and T-Boz’s brother I was not nervous at all. I really was flattered that they took the time to want to speak to me one on one. I was happy about that. I felt very welcome and it felt very warm, especially Chilli’s mom is very sweet, warm and inviting. It wasn’t like any interview I’ve ever done. It was very personal, very warm and very family like. I was very comfortable.

Q) You and Alju seemed to clash on the show. Have you spoken to her and mended things between you?

A) I have not spoken with Alju since. There are no hard feelings on my part. She and I do things differently and we just didn’t get along. Sometimes personalities just don’t click and it’s not something that I dwell on. You just move on and it didn’t hinder my performance in any way.

Q) Who do you plan on keeping in touch with from the show?

A) Fortunately, I did get a chance to make some good friends in the house. For the most part, I really loved my experience with the girls. I especially loved Mirrah and O’so Krispie because they really touched my heart after being with them in the house so long, especially since we got to stay in the house alone after the other girls were eliminated. We had some time to spend together, talk and share something special that a lot of the other girls didn’t get to experience. I think that brought us closer together. Arielle and I got really tight in the beginning and I thought she was such a sweetheart when I first met her and hopefully, I’ll be able to keep in touch with them all.

Q) What did you learn most about the music industry from being on the show?

A) I learned most is what can make you or break you in this business is your character and resilience. Can you maintain a strong character? Can you remain true to yourself? Can you trust yourself and still deal with all of the hype and rejection and pressure and all of the work that it takes to be successful?

Q) What are you going to do now that you are no longer on the show?

A) I think that even though I didn’t win and become the girl, even though I wanted to really badly, I feel it was my destiny. This competition was meant for someone else to be the winner. What I have coming for me, is for me. I know that this prepped me to head on the way to something great that is meant for me. I am definitely continuing to pursue my singing. I’ve had phone calls and I am going to continue on with that. I love to sing and I love to perform so you will definitely be hearing from me again. You’ll hear my voice and see my face again soon.

Q) Who do you think will be the winner?

A) It’s funny, but O’so Krispie and Mirrah are so different. It’s like they are two different colors on a spectrum. They are so different that it is hard to tell what T-Boz and Chilli exactly want. I think whatever one is chosen would be an awesome choice. They are both very hard workers and have great spirits. They are both really talented. It’s hard to say, but we’ll have to see next week.

Q) What was your favorite part of the whole experience?

A) My favorite part was probably the one on one time I got to spend with T-Boz and Chilli, both at the studio when we were getting our hair and makeup when we got to do the photo shoot and then when I took them out to eat at J.R. Cricket. It really kind of helped me to let my hair down and be myself. It helped me get to know them as women outside of the business and outside of the pressure of working at the house. I really felt like I could get to know them for who they are and I value that. I’ll take that with me!

Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A) To all of my fans and supporters, I’d just like to say thank you for letting me by myself and accepting and loving me for who I am. I promise that I will continue to do what I’m doing and I’ll try to inspire who I can and touch as many people as I can.
