Michael Harney – Orange Is the New Black

Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?

A)  I’m presently shooting Season 3 of “Orange Is The New Black.” I was in HBO’s “True Detective” a few months ago and have a movie called Bad Hurt opening soon.

Q) Please tease what is in store for Season 2 of “Orange Is The New Black” and with CO Sam Healy.

A) Season 2 of “OITNB” will take you on a pretty wild ride. It will give you foundational supports as to why certain characters are the way they are as well as keep you on the edge of your seats by exploring how people survive at the Litchfield. Healy may surprise you!

Q) How was your character originally described to you?

A) Healy was simply described to me as a CO who counsels the inmates. They told me he had a Russian mail order bride and had a thing about lesbians in that he didn’t agree with the lifestyle choice.

Q) Was there anything that you added to the role that wasn’t originally scripted for you?

A) What I’ve added is between the lines.

Q) All of your scenes with Taylor Schilling are pretty intense. What was the most difficult scene (emotionally) for you to shoot?

A) The scene when I went to see her in solitary. It was difficult but very beautiful as well .

Q) What directors have you enjoyed working with the most?

A) Each director has been wonderful but Michael Trim, Jodie Foster, Constantine Makris, Allison Anders and Andrew McCarthy are terrific.

Q) We’ve seen some major celebrities expressing interest in guest starring. Who would you like to see guest in Season 3?

A) I’d love to see Martin Sheen on the show.

Q) You are a part of social networking sites. Are you looking forward to the instant feedback you’ll receive from fans when Season 2 airs?

A) Having positive feedback for your work is always nice. It lets you know that people are resonating with the work that you’re doing. So, yeah, I’m looking forward to it. Social media can be a lot so I check in to see what’s happening a few times per day. I keep it simple.

Q) Is there anything else you’d like to be sure to share with fans about S2 of “OITNB?”

A) I’d like to thank everyone for taking the ride with us. Your response has been amazing and it lifts us up. Also, it’s very cool that the incarcerated population in the world is getting a voice. Thank you all for listening to them.
