Q) What artists inspire your music?

A) I’m inspired by old and new music alike. I’ve always loved the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding. Also, I really love Kendrick Lamar, Anderson Paak, Childish Gambino, Local Natives, BANKS and Doja Cat.

Q) How would you describe your sound in your own words?

A) Alternative soulful pop

Q) What was the creative process of writing “Always Gonna Love You” like?

A) It was pretty quick, honestly. We were on Zoom so this was a virtual session and the conversation we had honestly wrote the song. I love adding horns to my records to give them that old soul feel, so I had Myles Avery play on the track that Connor Seidel produced and my cowriter Tilsen really helped me to express how never-ending love can feel sometimes.

Q) What do you want fans to take away from your new song, “Always Gonna Love You?”

A) That it’s ok to feel like you’re going to love someone forever. Maybe you will. Maybe it didn’t work out or it isn’t working out right now. But there’s peace in accepting that you have love in your heart for somebody even if you can’t be with them.

Q) What made you decide to include “Always Gonna Love You” on your upcoming album Voice on the Internet?

A) It felt like the missing piece once my album was about finished. I just needed to get this off my heart, it hurts for me to listen to honestly so I guess that’s why I knew it had to be on there.

Q) Do you plan on releasing a music video for “Always Gonna Love You?”

A) I made a visualizer of personal footage throughout the past few years of my life. Memories. Time stamps of who we were. It’s also hard for me to watch but it felt really nice to compile footage from all of the different places we’d been and be able to remember the beautiful experiences.

Q) What does your upcoming album mean to you?

A) It’s a break up album. It’s a “don’t text your ex – put this on instead” album. It’s a coming of age album. An embracing yourself in all your pain, angst, sadness, confidence, regret, pity, peace and freedom album. I hope my album feels like a hug when you’re alone and thinking you need someone else to feel complete. I hope it makes you feel lighter when you’re in a dark place. I hope it helps you feel comfortable expressing your voice on the internet. I’ve waited my whole life to put out my first album so the significance of this moment for me is truly massive.

Q) How does the title of your upcoming album Voice on the Internet reflect on the album as a whole?

A) How do you get over someone when the internet exists? And how do you project online who you actually are, as well as in real life? These are two questions I’ve pondered heavily over the last year. I think they are the main reasons why I made this album. I was constantly trying to figure out the answers to those questions.

Q) What do you want the album to mean for your fans?

A) I hope it helps them feel better and to grow. I hope they feel like they’re a part of my journey and I’m a part of theirs. It’s a very raw insight into what my brain looked like over the last few years. It’s not always pretty, but I think it can help people understand more about me and perhaps more about themselves – that would be my goal at least.

Q) What are some of your latest favorite albums or musicians?

A) I love Still Woozy, Audrey Nuna, Maty Noyes (my best friend / collaborator / housemate), Kaytranada and The Japanese House to name a few.

Q) Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

A) Still Woozy, Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Tyler The Creator – all on one track. [smiles]

Q) With concerts currently on hold, what do you miss most about being on stage?

A) I miss the deep connected feeling when I’m performing a song and I can finally access my emotions fully, simultaneously feeling the energy of others in the room. It’s really magical.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and your music?

A) I am so thankful to have anyone listening to my music. Please send me a message it makes me so happy to be able to communicate and connect with the people that dig it. [smiles]
