On this week’s episode of Mom, Bonnie (Allison Janney) and Christy (Anna Faris) are shopping for a birthday present for Jill (Jaime Pressly) at a high-end store. Christy is wondering why they are even buying a present because Jill is still mad at Christy for saying she is not mom material in last week’s episode. Icy treatment aside, the two decide to search for a gift under a hundred dollars because Jill will not accept cheap stuff. When Christy is looking at some expensive sunglasses, a saleswoman (Christina Moore) asks approaches her to see if she needs help. From the get go, the saleslady has pegged Christy as someone who can not afford the things in the store and treats her badly. Bonnie has found success with a present. It may be an ugly scarf, but it is under a hundred bucks so they decide to take it. Incensed by the saleswoman’s behavior, Christy steals the expensive sunglasses and goes to wait in the car while Bonnie is paying for the scarf.
After they left the store, Christy and Bonnie complain about the snooty saleswoman. When Christy puts on her “new” sunglasses, Bonnie notices them right away and wants to know where she got them from. Christy tries to play it cool, but she is no match for her mother. She admits that she stole the sunglasses because she did not like that the saleswoman treated her like poor “white trash.”
At the diner, Jill is opening her gifts. Marjorie (Mimi Kennedy) gave her a journal. She opens Bonnie’s and Christy’s scarf and she is a somewhat curious to finally go to Best Buy to use Wendy’s (Beth Hall) gift card. It’s clear that Jill is still mad at Christy because she addresses everyone in a friendly voice except Christy. Again, Christy’s sunglasses are noticed and she tries to act nonchalant, but Jill is able to spot that they are Prada. Christy tries to deny it but Jill knows the real thing when she sees it.
After they leave the diner, Bonnie wants to stop by the store to buy her boyfriend Adam (William Fichtner) some beer. She teases Christy about her stealing and Christy is annoyed. Christy is surprised to see that Bonnie has parked in a handicapped spot. She is in shock when she sees her mother put a handicapped placard in the car. She asks her if she took Adam’s placard, but Bonnie tells her that she made a copy and laminated it so it looks real. Bonnie does not feel she is doing anything wrong because she only uses it when she is doing something for Adam who is in a wheelchair. Christy tells her that this is so wrong but Bonnie believes, “I am running an errand for a handicapped person so therefore placard privileges transfer to me.” When Bonnie is walking to the door of the store, a bike cop catches her in the act. No matter what Bonnie says or does, she cannot weasel her way out of the ticket.
At home, Bonnie is so annoyed and wants to go to court to fight the ticket. Adam knocks on the door and Bonnie tells Christy not to say anything to him. When Adam comes in, he notices that Bonnie is being extra sweet to him. When Bonnie walks into the kitchen to give him a beer, he asks Christy what is going on. Christy does not want to say anything. When Bonnie comes back into the living room, Adam wants the truth. Bonnie ends up telling him that because of her love of arts and crafts and laminating, she made a fake copy of his placard and got a ticket. Obviously, Adam is not happy. He says that he does not use his placard because it is for people with limited abilities. When Bonnie is feeling uncomfortable with the negative attention, she tells Adam that Christy stole the sunglasses. Adam wants to talk to Bonnie alone.
After the talk, Bonnie enters their bedroom feeling guilty and upset that Adam is disappointed in her. She is upset that she is being punished for what she did, but Christy will not admit that she did anything wrong. When Bonnie walks out, Christy looks at the sunglasses again and the guilt starts to sink in.
The next day, Christy goes back to the store. When Christy tries talking to the saleswoman, the phone rings. Christy tries to get her attention, but the saleswoman continues talking on the phone and does not care that Christy is waiting. The anger returns and in retaliation, Christy steals some fancy black gloves and walks out.
At their AA meeting, Marjorie shares with the group that she was supposed to have dinner with her husband and his family. She does not want to go so she lies to him and tells him that she has an AA emergency and cannot make it to the dinner. She feels bad about lying and knows that even little white lies can jeopardize her sobriety. Spurred on by Majorie’s words, Christy and Bonnie leave to make amends for the things they have done. Marjorie complains about them leaving because she always listens to them when they share, but they leave anyway.
Bonnie sets up another meeting with Adam to apologize. She tries to win some sympathy with him by telling him that her morals are questionable at times because she was raised in the foster care system and she had to fend for herself, but Adam is not falling for it. He just wants an apology, not excuses.
Christy returns to the store for a final time and confesses her crimes to the saleswoman. The saleswoman is surprised and impressed that Christy brought the stuff back. Christy tells her that it was the right thing to do because she does not want to do anything that will affect her sobriety. The saleswoman tells her that she still has to report the crime to the police so Christy runs away.
