Bonnie (Allison Janney) is having a hard time dealing with her breakup with Adam (William Fichtner). At the group AA meeting, Bonnie does not let anyone else share as she laments to the group about how she destroyed her relationship. As Bonnie drones on about Adam, everyone stops listening after a while. When she finally finishes, no one realizes she stopped talking and she has to yell to get everyone focused again.

After AA is over, the ladies head over to the diner and Bonnie continues talking about Adam. Marjorie (Mimi Kennedy) tries to comfort Bonnie and lets her know that she will get through this difficult time and find love again. Bonnie does not believe her. When Bonnie goes to use the restroom, Christy (Anna Faris) tells the others that she is frustrated with all the Adam talk. Wendy (Beth Hall), Jill (Jaime Pressly) and Marjorie offer to spend extra time with Bonnie.

Later, as Bonnie and Jill are driving, Bonnie tells Jill about the progress she has made since the breakup with Adam. The progress is small, but she stops the car at Adam’s apartment building. Jill tells Bonnie the truth. It is going to take a long time to truly get over Adam. Jill tells her, “I’ve loved and lost and it taught me an important life lesson. It’s gonna take you five penises to get over this guy. First three are sacrificial, the fourth one gets you through the holidays and number five gets you all the way to ‘Adam who’?” When Christy returns home, she sees that Wendy is sneaking out. When Christy asks her why she is not spending time with Bonnie, Wendy runs away. The next day, Christy is at home with Bonnie when she gets a call from Marjorie. Marjorie tells Christy that she cannot come over and hang out with Bonnie because her husband Victor twisted his ankle by stepping on one of their cats so she has to take them both to get treated. Christy cannot stand another moment being trapped in the house with a heartbroken Bonnie so she runs out of the house before her mother can find her.

Christy decides to find sanctuary in an unusual place, the grocery store. She enjoys some cheese samples and runs into the one person she never thought she would run into: Adam. It is a bit awkward. When Adam asks about Bonnie, Christy tries to pretend that her mom is doing fine and Adam prepares to leave when Christy decides to stop the charade. She tells him that Bonnie is miserable and “misses him more than she misses cocaine and she once sold her hair for cocaine.” Adam admits to Christy that he misses her too, but he cannot get over that she was seeing another guy behind his back, texting him, kissing him and then lying to him about the whole thing. Christy tells Adam that it is his decision to fix his relationship with Bonnie. Bonnie still wants him so he should take the chance before it is too late.

As Christy and Bonnie get ready to go to their AA meeting, Christy reminds her mother not to hog the share time. Someone knocks on the door and Bonnie is surprised to see Adam outside. Christy is grateful that Adam listened to her plea. The estranged couple decide to stay at Bonnie’s to talk while Christy goes to the AA meeting alone. Back at home, Bonnie tells Adam she is surprised that he came to see her. Adam admits that he has been thinking about her so he decided to come and see her. When Christy texts Bonnie, Bonnie is anxious to know the status of her relationship so she asks Adam so she can report the good or bad news to her daughter. He tells Bonnie that she can tell Christy they are good. They are a couple again. She says that if he wants to talk about anything she is open to it, but he tells her that he wants to forget about everything and move on. Things are a bit awkward and seeing Bonnie on her phone makes Adam uncomfortable even though she is texting her friends to tell them the good news.

The next day at AA, everyone wants to know how Adam’s and Bonnie’s reunion went and Bonnie admits that things are weird. She says that Adam stayed over to watch TV, but when Bonnie asked if he was spending the night he said he was going back to his place. Bonnie tells her friends that she was willing to talk, but Adam did not want to. Christy tells her mom that she should be patient and wait for Adam to be ready to talk. Jill suggests that Bonnie should let Adam kiss another woman to even out the playing field. The next night, Bonnie and Adam are having dinner at home and things are still tense. They are both are excited when Christy gets home so they can have someone there to make things less awkward. They invite her to join them for dinner. Christy tells them she wants to change out of her work clothes and then she will join them. Adam blurts out how weird things have been between them. He suggests that sex will make things less weird between them. Bonnie agrees. Christy returns to an empty kitchen.

The next day, Bonnie tells her friends that their advice was worthless. Christy tells them that Bonnie and Adam decided to have sex to avoid discussing what went wrong in their relationship. Bonnie said she tried to be patient and wait for Adam to talk, but it did not work. Bonnie is happy things are back on track. She is looking forward to having dinner with Adam at the Italian restaurant where they had their first date. Adam calls Bonnie to cancel their date. She pretends that she is okay. She tells her friends that he wanted to watch the basketball game with his friends instead. It is clear that Bonnie wants to pretend that she is fine with Adam blowing her off. Christy tells her mother that Bonnie has to get Adam to talk honestly about his feelings. Bonnie is worried that if she forces Adam to talk, he will reconsider being in a relationship with her. Christy reminds Bonnie that their relationship was strained for so many years when they were not talking. It was not an easy road, but Christy admits that she is glad that their relationship is better today than it was all those years ago.

Bonnie heads to the bar to talk to Adam. Adam is surprised to see Bonnie. She admits to Adam that things are not okay. He tries to pretend that they are okay because they had sex. She wants him to admit that he is still angry with her. Finally, Adam tells her that he is trying to move on and not be angry, but he still can picture her with another guy every time he looks at her. Bonnie does not know what to do because she has apologized so many times. He is mad at her for screwing up their relationship. While it hurts, Bonnie thanks him for being honest. Bonnie tells him to call her when he is “less mad.” She thinks that until he can get over his anger, that they should take a break.
