Moments after his decision to hack the FBI, Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) describes the rush he feels as he once again finds himself in his element. He is so engrossed in what he is doing that he doesn’t realize that Ray’s (Craig Robinson) partner, Lone Star (Michael Maize), is still watching him – ensuring that he finishes the job for Ray’s business. Thinking fast, he gets him to leave by telling him the he needs to talk to the former IT guy about the encrypted server. Left to his own devices, Elliot resumes his work.

Over at Steel Mountain, FBI agent Dominique DiPierro (Grace Gummer) continues to investigate the five/nine hack and finds a circuit that was tampered with. Angela Moss (Portia Doubleday) finds Darlene Alderson (Carly Chaikin) sitting in her home and confronts her about breaking and entering. Darlene responds that she needs to listen to her or she will tell the FBI that she was the one who unwillingly helped with the five/nine hack. She wants Angela to help Elliot by assisting her in hacking the FBI, but Angela refuses this request.

In a diner, an incognito Joanna Wellick (Stephanie Corneliussen) meets with Kareem (Kareem Savinon), the man that she is hoping will keep silent about the events of the five/nine hack. The man is terrified of the FBI and wants to come clean about the information he knows as he believes that someone is watching him. Joanna assures him that things will be okay in order to prevent him from going to the FBI.

Darlene visits Elliot at their mother’s house and Elliot immediately notices that she is troubled by something. Darlene then tells him that she’s worried about Angela. Interrupting her, Elliot insists that Angela should not be involved with fsociety. Both Darlene and Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) argue with Elliot about Angela, but Elliot demands that they find another way to hack the FBI.

DiPierro arrives in China as the FBI meets with Whiterose (BD Wong). He agrees to cooperate with the FBI in the investigation and DiPierro asks about the Dark Army. After moments of silence, Whiterose agrees to pass his information about the Dark Army to the FBI. Joanna receives a mysterious package that contains nothing, but a small sack with a baby rattle. At the basketball court, Elliot meets with Ray and discusses the job. Mr. Robot appears to tell him that Elliot is wasting time with this job and that calling Angela is a better idea in order to hack the FBI. Elliot ignores him and continues his discussion.

Joanna’s driver informs her that he has managed to track the origin of the mysterious package, but not who sent it. She asks whether Kareem has been taken care of and he tells her that Kareem was paralyzed with a drug and murdered as she requested. The murder was staged to look like a robbery so they wouldn’t be suspected. Angela meets with her ex-boyfriend Ollie Parker (Ben Rappaport) in a bar. Ollie asks about the hack and Angela soon realizes that he is recording the conversation. After destroying his phone, she asks if he is working with the FBI. Ollie denies this and then admits that he has spoken to the FBI. This causes Angela to storm out of the bar angrily.

Back in China, DiPierro accidentally stumbles on a room full of clocks while at a party. Whiterose finds her and DiPierro asks him about the clocks. He explains his obsession with time and asks her about why she joined the FBI. Whiterose gets DiPierro to confess that she joined the FBI because of a prior relationship. After showing her around his house, Whiterose asks her if she ever imagined the world without the five/nine hack. Before she can answer, an alarm goes off and Whiterose escorts her back to the party. Angela goes to visit Elliot and insists that she needed to be involved despite Elliot’s disagreement. They discuss the plan as well as the last time they saw each other. Elliot confesses that he still sees Mr. Robot and that he is standing behind her. Angela tells Elliot that she wants to be there for him and they reconnect.

Darlene makes arrangements for fsociety’s next steps, giving orders to one of the newest recruits. Elliot meets with Ray’s former IT guy, who asks him through the notepad program why he’s stopped work on the project while trying not to alert Lone Star. They have a back and forth discussion where the former IT guy tries to warn Elliot about Ray’s shady operation. He shows Elliot a website where Elliot finds out that Ray and Lone Star are human traffickers as well as drug and weapon dealers. Back at his mothers’ house, Elliot has a moral crisis over his discovery. Mr. Robot advises him to ignore the evidence, telling him they have other battles to fight. Elliot refuses to listen to Mr. Robot, saying that he can’t just ignore the evidence. Joanna receives another mysterious call and steps outside at the sound of sirens both nearby and on the phone. Joanna sees an ambulance drive away and realizes that the caller is nearby.

Angela takes a series of cabs to prevent herself from being followed, heading down into the subway and rides it until she arrives at fsociety headquarters. Darlene brings her inside to meet the rest of fsociety and they begin preparation for their hack of the FBI. DiPierro meets with the FBI the next morning in a café. Suddenly, a masked man comes into the public space and opens fire. DiPierro ducks behind a counter and grabs a fallen agent’s gun, using it to shoot at the masked gunman. Dodging a couple of bullets, DiPierro looks behind the counter to see the gunman shoot himself in the head. Another gunman appears and starts firing at her, causing her to duck again behind the counter.

Elliot is in bed when two of Ray’s partners grab him and pull him outside. Ray and Lone Star confront him about looking through their files, implying that he is a rat. Their goons beat him to a bloody pulp outside the house as Ray and Lone Star watch.
