“Nashville” fans are still reeling from the last episode. That doesn’t stop the writers from throwing even more drama at us! This week begins with Scarlet (Clare Bowen) and Deacon (Charles Esten) at the farmers market. Deacon wants to buy everything he tries, but Scarlet tells him no. Scarlet spots Gunnar (Sam Palladio) and starts looking very hard at zucchini.

Deacon wants to know if she’s going to avoid him forever. She just might. They haven’t spoken since they decided not to talk and she’s worried about what to say. Scarlet has a show that night and she doesn’t seem that interested in it. The market is the place to be. They run into Jessie (Kaitlin Doubleday). It’s even more awkward than staring at zucchini! They haven’t spoken since they shared that goodbye kiss at the end of Season 5.

Scarlet tells Deacon that he needs to call Jessie. She says he shouldn’t hide his feelings. Deacon replies with “this coming from a woman hiding behind an eggplant.” It was actually a zucchini, Deacon. Pay attention! Gunnar gets home from the market and tells Will (Chris Carmack) that he saw Scarlet at the market. He knows that she avoided him. Gunnar thinks that he’s making too much out of it and he should just let it go.

Will says that he can’t worry about what the other person is thinking all the time. He has to worry about himself. Will wants to pay with Gunnar again at his next gig. Gunnar tells him that he’s okay. He doesn’t want Will to worry about him. Will says that he wasn’t offering because he’s worried. It was fun. He asks Gunnar if he’s heard of fun and what could be more fun than playing with your best friend. Gunnar says “Avery?” He’s got jokes!

Avery (Jonathan Jackson) has found a doctor for Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) to go see. He’s worried that she’s going to be mad. She assures she’s not mad but she doesn’t need a doctor. She’s going to go see Darius (Josh Stamberg). Here we go! Avery says that he was hoping she’d go see a doctor. Juliette tells Avery that Darius is a doctor. A doctor of what? Con? Juliette wants to get help her own way.

Deacon bites the bullet and calls Jessie. Deacon trying to ask her out is even more awkward than running into her. She tells him that it sounds lovely, but is he sure. Deacon tells her that he is. Jessie tells him that it wasn’t that long ago he wasn’t ready. Deacon points out that she wasn’t ready either. He says that was then and this is now. Jessie agrees to the date. Finally.

Something is off with Scarlet at her show. You can tell her heart just isn’t into it. After the show, she goes to her dressing room and breaks down. Will is headed out to the gym again. Gunnar asks him why he’s working out so much. Will says he has to take his shirt off for a photo shoot the following week and that’s motivation enough. Gunnar asks if he can come to the shoot. Will says he can but only if he shaves his back. Gross! Gunnar, thankfully, says no. Will’s back hair is not something we want to see!

Juliette is waiting for Darius but is greeted by a woman instead. She tells Juliette that Darius asked her to give her a personal introduction into what they do there. They have intentional communities in 29 cities across the country. These are communities with like-minded individuals who follow Darius. Well, and donate thirty percent of their income to his cause. No wonder he targeted Juliette. Thirty percent of her income would pad his pockets for a while.

They are still allowed to work and go to school but in the evening they do things together. Giving more of themselves doesn’t just mean money. They work on building houses for Habitat For Humanity too. She asks Juliette to come along. Juliette tries to get out of it with several excuses. Seeing that the woman isn’t buying any of them, she reluctantly goes along.

Deacon and Jessie are texting trying to decide on a place for their dinner date. Maddie (Lennon Stella) asks him what’s up and he tells her that he’s trying to find a place to eat. Maddie asks him if he’s looking for a date spot. Deacon says no, just a dinner spot. When Maddie presses him further, he says that he will let her know more if it turns out to be anything.

Maddie is annoyed that Jonah (Nic Luken) is taking so long to reply to her texts. They had a great date and now she feels like he’s blowing her off. Maddie, he is a pop star! Cut him some slack. He’s probably busy. Deacon thinks she’s overreacting. Maddie says that he’s also not engaging her when he texts. She says these are all things you look for when texting. Deacon confused picks up his own phone to check his texts.

Scarlet arrives so Deacon picks her brain about a dinner spot. Scarlet is glad he took her advice. Deacon swears he didn’t take any advice. He just wants a place to eat some dinner! Scarlet and Maddie crack up because Deacon is being so weird about his date. Deacon asks Scarlet what was up with her at the show. He noticed that she seemed off and not herself. Scarlet says she felt Gunnar’s absence.

Scarlet says she’s okay without Gunnar. Without him with her though, she wonders why she’s doing it. The performing was what Gunnar wanted, not her. Deacon tells her that she’s all of that too. Her songs say something and it would be a shame if they didn’t have an audience. Deacon says that someone asked him if she wanted to take part in a guitar pool. Scarlet tells him she’ll think about it; while he’s on his date.

At the worksite, the foreman asks Juliette what kind of experience she has. Juliette kind of laughs and says none. He shows her how to staple insulation in the wall. Juliette balks at the task of course. She tells the lady she came with that she got into an accident so she can’t do this. What does that have to do with anything? The woman basically tells Juliette to get to work and leaves her to it.

Gunnar and Will have a special guest at their show. Avery came to watch. You can tell that Avery wishes he was up there too. Will tells a girl in the audience that Gunnar is lonely. She says that she’ll take him. Avery tells the guys that he’s jealous. They’re having too much fun. Will tells Avery to join them. Avery says he can’t. He has his own band, wife, and daughter to worry about. The guys back off for a hot minute.

Juliette smashes her thumb with a hammer. She asks the lady to get her some ice. She tells Juliette that the ice is in the van. As long as she’s going to be there, she will be treated like everyone else. Juliette says she’s not like everyone else. She’s leaving. Daphne (Maisy Stella) and Flynn (Ben Taylor) see Jake (Myles Moore) outside of the school messing with a tree. Daphne tries to wave at him but he just turns away. Flynn says that he’s weird but Daphne doesn’t engage. Good for you Daphne!

Scarlet attends an art show for one of the girls that came to see her last year. She was in a really dark place and tells Scarlet that her music is what got her out of it. See, Scarlet! The world needs your music! Scarlet tells Nadine (Isabella Amara) that her painting is amazing. Nadine says she’s also feeling a lot better now. Even Nadine’s mom thanks Scarlet for her influence. It seems that it’s falling on deaf ears though.

Deacon is still trying to figure out a place to eat. He sends Jessie a suggestion and she immediately calls him. She is backing out of the date. Jessie blames it on her son like any parent would do. It seems like she’s just nervous and unsure. Poor Deacon. Juliette has finished hanging all of the installation. She surprised everyone there. They invite her to dinner as a reward.

Juliette calls Avery to tell him she’s spending the night at the center. This place already has their hooks in her good. Avery is trying to be understanding. You can tell that his patience is wearing thin. Deacon gets a call from Jessie the next day. She’s calling to apologize for breaking their date. Jessie says she was just nervous. Deacon tells her they can just make it dinner. No expectations.

Daphne tries to get Jake to join her and her friends for lunch. They talk about their parents dating and how gross it would be. Well, kids, you’re about to be grossed out. Scarlet tells Deacon that she’s trying to figure out a way she can use her platform to help people. Deacon asks for fashion advice for his date. These two are hilarious.

Gunnar and Will surprise Avery. They tell him they’re staging an intervention. He’s too mopey and they’re going to do something about it. Will tries, unsuccessfully, to rope Avery. The guys kidnap Avery and Cadence. They planned a show for Avery to perform with them. Avery doesn’t seem too thrilled about it.

Deacon meets Jessie at the restaurant for their date. Could these two be any more awkward? They can’t even decide if they should wait for a table or eat at the bar. Scarlet goes to the guitar thing that Deacon arranged. Avery meets the babysitter for Cadence. Gunnar tells Avery it’s cool because she got great reviews on Yelp. Oh, boy!

Jessie tells Deacon that she’s been taking psychology classes online. She’s giving up music. Instead of telling her what he really thinks, Deacon tells her it’s exciting. This date is not getting any better. Jessie asks Deacon if everything is okay. She doesn’t feel like he’s really present. He is acting weird, but so is she. Jessie feels like them going on a date is ruining their friendship.

Deacon has been looking forward to their date and is just overwhelmed. They thought it was just going to be dinner. It clearly means more to both of them. Jessie suggests they just go back to being friends. The guys can’t decide on what they should play. They finally find a song they all know. These three should form a band!

Darius comes in and sees Juliette having fun with the rest of the people at the center. He seems pretty pleased with himself. Deacon drops Jessie off after their date. Jessie calls their date a fun failed experiment. The two say goodnight. However, Jessie turns back around and they embrace in a mini make-out session.

Avery makes breakfast for the guys the morning after their gig. Will tells Avery they need to have fun once a week. Cadence seems to like the idea. Juliette drops in to see Darius before she leaves. He tells her that he’s sorry he didn’t get to spend more time with her. He wanted her to feel disappointment. Juliette tells Darius that she doesn’t like mind games.

Darius tells her what she’s returning to are people who want her to make her stay exactly the way she is. She needs distance and structure. He’s trying to talk her into leaving her family. If Juliette leaves again is Avery going to take her back? Scarlet sees Gunnar at the market again. This time she doesn’t avoid him.

The two have a short and semi-awkward conversation. They’re both happy for each other. Gunnar does tell Scarlet that he thinks she should keep singing. Scarlet says that she felt like it became an obligation. She wants to do something more direct to help people. It seems like Gunnar wants to say more but he stops himself before he does.

Deacon drops Daphne off at school and runs into Jessie. Daphne has no idea they went on a date. However, she does pick up on the fact they’re being weird. Juliette returns home to find Avery waiting for her on the couch. He asks her how it went and we’ll have to wait until next week to get her answer! Who wants to be she’s running off again? Winner gets bragging rights!
