Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Our sound is pretty moody and dark, but we also like to play around with synths and 80’s inspired timbres. So alt-pop would be the genre I guess.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) While writing the upcoming EP we listened to a lot of different music to try and pull interesting pieces from a mix of genres. Peter Gabriel was a big influence; we listened to his album Up quite a bit before writing the lyrics. We’re all super into Hip-Hop so we like to incorporate as much of that vibe as we can.

Q) Your upcoming EP is called For E*V*E*R.Where does the title come from?

A) The title is a lyric in the song “For E-V-E-R,” which is the first song on the album. When we were recording the vocals for this song our producer, Alastair Sims, thought it would be cool to spell it like how I was singing it. The song is about a relationship between two powerful people.

Q) What is the message behind the song “Lonely Being Cool?”

A) We wanted to express the feeling of being lonely despite having friends or being surrounded by people. I think that everyone’s had a moment where they’ve been at a party or with people and they just feel really lonely and out of place. So, the songs about feeling that way but not letting it get to you or at least letting on that you feel that way.

Q) How does the video for the song play into the message of it?

A) We wanted the video to play on the name of the band. So, in the video Nikki is the groom while Dylan and Nate are the wives. The director of the video had just finished the newest Grimes video before directing ours so we felt confident that he could make us a cool video. My favorite part is the last wedding scene when the guests are destroying the room and flipping tables over.

Q) What do you think it is about your song “Ghost” that fans have connected to?

A) “Ghost” was the last song we wrote on the record so we were all feeling a little blue about it. For us, it marked the end of a very intense and emotional experience so the emotions behind the song are derivative from that. I think people have probably connected to the feeling of missing someone or something and not being able to do anything about it.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) It’s pretty collaborative whenever we’re in the studio. Our producer, Alastair, is one of our best friends so everyone’s involved with the production of the songs.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Nikki’s Wives performance?

A) We like to have a lot of fun with our live set. We change all the arrangements up so you’ll never just be hearing what we played on the EP.

Q) What songs off For E*V*E*R are you most looking forward to performing live?

A) Our favorite song to play live would be “Fight Song.” We always close the show with that and I think it’s one of our best live songs. We have a big drum moment where Nikki starts playing drums, too.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) The dream would be to have Michael McDonald cover our EP front to back with his soulful baritone voice.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to the EP?

A) We want to inspire people to be strong and to not take shit from anyone. Basically, the goal is for everyone to be a bad bitch after listening to our EP.

Q) Is there anything else you want be sure fans know about your music?

A) We’re just about to release a new single off of the FOR E*V*E*R EP so that’s pretty exciting. The song we’re releasing is called “Fantasize” so check it out if you haven’t already heard it!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way to connect with your fans?

A) Social media is really cool because it allows you to connect with people from all over the world, not just people in your surrounding area. It’s always awesome getting messages from people in different countries.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter?

A) If you wanna stay updated on all shit Nikki’s Wives, you can find all our socials under the tag @nikkiswives or on our website nikkiswives.com.
