Paris Smith – Every Witch Way

By  |

Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?

A) I’m also on another Nickelodeon show called “React To That” and that started airing last week. It’s based off of a YouTube show I worked on for years called “Kids React,” which is where kids react to videos. “React To That” airs on Nickelodeon at 6pm from Monday through Friday. It shows my personality more and it is fun an exciting because it is not scripted. Then, the new season of “Every Witch Way” airs Monday, January 5th at 7pm ET. There is going to be a lot of drama! There are some new characters. Mia (Elizabeth Elias) is one of them and she is a huge troublemaker. She gets involved with Daniel (Nick Merico) for a little bit, which is a really tough thing for Emma (Paola Andino). There is a lot of magic and there is going to be a lot of stuff between Deigo (Tyler Alvarez) and I and Diego plays my boyfriend. There is lots of magic involved with Emma so that is something to look forward to!

Q) What made you want to be a part of “Every Witch Way?”

A) It’s on Nickelodeon and they have a huge creative range. Maddie is huge fashionista and the popular cheerleader girl. She is very comedic and can be a little bit bossy, but in Season Two she really changed with Diego becoming her boyfriend. Diego is a Kanay, which means he they can control the elements and Maddie is a witch. So, there is a lot of spell casting and she does not like Emma at all. Her character was fun to play because, personally, I’m not bossy or mean. It was very fun to play a huge stretch for me and I just loved the character.

Q) Was there anything you added to the character?

A) I like to add little “isms.” I like to add little things that she does like the way she walks. I have a particular walk with head up high and shoulders back. I definitely like to add little quirks. In Season One, I got to create my own move. Maddie has a signature move with the way she casts her spells so it was very fun. They let me create it and do it however I wanted to. That was a fun thing I got to do!

Q) What do you think it is about the show that has made it a fan favorite?

A) It’s the chemistry and the relationships. It’s the love stories. I think the magic definitely has something to do with it because kids love spells, effects and messy pranks. I enjoy watching that stuff! Definitely it’s the storylines and kids can relate to the different characters. There is a variety of characters like Andi (Daniela Nieves) who is the tomboy, Maddie who is the fashionista, Emma who is the nice girl, Jax (Rahart Adams) who is the bad boy and Daniel is the nice guy. There is a wide variety of characters and there is a new episode every night so I think kids like that. I know when I watch my favorite shows I don’t want to wait a whole week for the next episode to air. I want it to air the next day! I think that’s something that kids love as well. Also, it’s like a comedic soap opera for kids. That means at the end of each episode there is a huge cliffhanger and you don’t know what happens at the end. It’s like a dramedy so different characters bring the drama elements and different characters bring the comedic elements. I think the chemistry and everything is a huge thing that kids love.

Q) You have great comedic timing. Is it something that has come natural or have you worked at it?

A) I think it definitely comes natural to me. Since I was  kid, I’ve always cracked jokes. When I was little (like four or five years old) I would be sitting on a plane with my mom and next to some stranger I didn’t even know. When we’d take off, I’d grab both of their hands and say, “Weeeee!” I was definitely outgoing and very outspoken. I never met a stranger in my life. I just love talking to people. So, I think comedic timing came natural to me.

Q) How do you balance being on two shows and going to school?

A) It’s definitely time management and my mom has been there to help me a lot. I could not have done as much as I have done without my parents. They are just awesome! I’m very blessed to have this life and I have to be focused a lot. They wanted me to do “React To That” at the end of Season Two for “Every Witch Way,” but I was still filming so I couldn’t film all the episodes. I am in about ten out of the twelve episodes for “React To That.” So, it was a lot of time management with my schedule, but I really wanted to do this and it is something I always loved doing. I made it work! I like the schedule I have been working with and school is very important to me. I have always loved school and last year my GPA was a 4.0. I get straight A’s and I like to pursue my school career. I’m a year ahead as well! So, I’d like to keep acting as a priority.

Q) What were some of your most memorable moments from filming “Every Witch Way” this season?

A) The beach scenes were a lot of fun. We actually shot some promos at the beach, too. After work we would go to the beach and chill. Maddie was definitely filming a lot with Emma. Paola is so much fun to work with and I love her. She’s so talented and a blast to work with. Also, there is also a new character named Mia who is played by Elizabeth Elias. She is definitely a huge troublemaker. She loves to create mischief and likes to stir the pot a lot. The “H20” are new characters as well – Hector and Oscar. They are a rivalry to the P3, who are the pranksters of the town. They have dumped oatmeal on Maddie. They have dumped ketchup on Maddie. They have dumped fish on Jax one time. The H20 come in and kind of shake that up a little bit. There is a huge rivalry between them. There are also some mischievous things that go on between Maddie and Emma because of Daniel.

Q) Will there be any guest stars we can tease for the coming season?

A) There wasn’t too many. There were new characters added this season. The Witches Council is back and I love filming with them because they are hilarious. There weren’t too many guest stars this season. It was just about the new characters and the storyline. The person who plays my mom, Ursula, (Katie Barberi) is hilarious and so much fun to work with. She gets involved a little bit more this season and is a blast to film with as well.

Q) You are a part of social media. Do you enjoy the instant fan reaction you receive when episodes premiere?

A) I love all of my fans on Twitter and Instagram. They mean the world to me and I couldn’t be where I am without them. I live tweeted last week to “React To That” and some of the “Every Witch Way” Season Two episodes were reairing. So, I had to live tweet both shows at the same time. It was a little bit hectic, but I love hearing their stories and reading all of the amazing quotes. I’m so incredibly grateful for all of my fans and all of my supporters.

Q) Is there anything else you want to share with fans about the new season of “Every Witch Way?”

A) You are definitely going to watch to see what happens because there is a lot going on! There is a lot of stuff going on with “Miego” (Maddie and Diego’s ship name). They build a lot more and you see the growth of their relationship. Last season was them building up to boyfriend and girlfriend and you see them as boyfriend and girlfriend and how it grows from there.
