Q) How would you describe your sound?

A)  I would describe my sound as organic, fluid, and gentle. Someone once described my sound as “future soul.” That label stuck with me because it captures the modern and futuristic essence of my music while intertwining elements of soul.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A)  I definitely admire Eartha Kitt. Most recently, I’ve been into Jai Paul, Tame Impala, Hiatus Kaiyote and Sonnymoon.

Q) What is the song writing process like for you? Do you need music before you create the lyrics?

A) My writing process changes all the time. Usually, I write based on the beat and its colors. I never write a full song in one day. I may sit with it until I discover a cool melody, then move on. This way, I’m able to come back to the song with a clear head.

Q) How did your new EP Moon Shoes get its name?

A) While listening to the EP, I felt as if I were traveling through space. I like to think of space as a place of comfort, freedom and solace. I decided to name the project Moon Shoes to provide listeners the identical experience.

Q) What have been some of the fans favorite songs off the EP?

A) Majority of my supporters really like the songs “Free Room” and “Venezuela Trains.” It is always cool to see what songs people gravitate towards.

Q) What do you think it is about your new song “Right of Spring” that fans are really connecting to?

A)  I think “Right of Spring” gives listeners a sense of entitlement and pride. The song has very warm lyrics and chords, giving it a summery flavor. While writing the song, I wanted listeners to feel completely in control of their destiny and strong enough to take it.

Q) How much of a hand do you personally have in the production of your music?

A) While creating, it is definitely important for me to establish a mutual connection with the producer. I prefer sitting with the producer while building the beat. This way, we’re able to give input and bounce ideas off each other.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Ravyn Lenae performance?

A) I love performing. I think it is super important to connect with supporters in a more intimate fashion. Performing live gives me the chance to deliver my songs in a more raw and emotional manner. Supporters can always expect me to put my heart in every performance.

Q) What are some of your favorite songs off Moon Shoes to perform live?

A) I love performing “Free Room” because the song is really funky and fun. It never fails to get the crowd moving and dancing. I love when people feel my music as much as I do.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from checking out the album?

A)  I hope listeners get a sense of who I am as an artist and person. Every song on the EP is solely based off my personal emotions and experiences. I encourage listeners to put on their moon shoes and discover the hidden messages behind simple lines and to visualize the pictures painted.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I  am a very big fan of Andre 3000. I hope to create with him one day!

Q) What can fans do to help promote your music?

A) Share, share, share!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Social media definitely plays an integral role in expanding my brand as an artist. Not only are supporters constantly updated on shows and new music, but they get a glimpse of my daily thoughts and adventures, which is really cool.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I love you so much!! Thank you for all the support and love; means the world to me!
